I have no problem keeping up. thanks.

I agree with you. I'm not advocating removing sniping. But it IS AN IMBALANCED GAME MECHANIC. There is no counter-play for it. I'm talking in game-design terms here. I am not saying I think they should MAKE it balanced, I'm just saying that's how developers think and that's how developers make games. Sniping is NOT a fun mechanic for someone getting sniped. Sniping is not FAIR for the person being sniped. Sniping *IS* a very powerful tactic. Sniping *IS* by it's very nature imbalanced.

I already have. You haven't countered them. You're the one repeating yourself and resorting to personal attacks like insinuating that I'm dumbly running across an airfield or that this guy posted a "wall of dumb", without really properly responding to it. I think everyone should just move along and let this thread die. This guy is clearly trolling at this point.

What's your argument exactly? There's too much sway? Fix your fucking arm, then come back and talk to me. Aside from 7.62 damage being shitty and taking 3-4 body shots to kill a fully geared player, I think sniping is fine. I also agree about making the MOA accurate to real life.. I'd be fine with that. But you don't want to get into an argument with me about weapon sway. I'm sitting in TS with a US Marine at the moment. Sniping is inherently imbalanced. You can't deny it. Stop talking out of your ass.

If you're missing them you're doing it wrong. Headshots are instant kills. They can't run if they are dead.
-
You can do it at any range, but only after 400 meters or so can the other person not really have any hope of seeing you. At close range, the other player has equal opportunity to see you as you do them. It's not difficult to hit with a sniper rifle if you're any good and/or you are patient and wait for them to stop. Let's just admit that sniping is over-powered/imbalanced, and move on. I'm not arguing that it shouldn't be imbalanced. I already said that 7.62 damage should be increased. Problem is, I think you're judging sway based off having a broken arm...

Dude, now you're attacking me.. let me say this again MY FAVORITE LOADOUT LATELY IS MOSIN WITH LRS + SHOTGUN. I've been playing this game for 2 years (Standalone + >1 year of DayZ Mod).. I was a competitive FPS player, and I've been competitive gaming for 18 years. I am not whining about dying to snipers. I don't think I have ever died instantly to a mosin sniper. So stop attacking ME and try addressing my argument: Fact: If you are sniping PROPERLY, the other person does not know you are there. Fact: If you are assaulting someone in CQB, the other person DOES know you are there, or at least has the same capability to see you as you have to see them. Fact: Shooting someone and instantly killing them from 400meters gives them no opportunity to respond or react and instantly ends their characters life. Fact: Shooting someone in CQB requires you to get within the range of THEIR weapon as well, and thus, assuming they are equally skilled, allows them to fire back and attack you equally. This CANNOT BE SAID ABOUT sniping. So, while I'm not advocating removing sniping and I'm not whining about dying to snipers, I also recognize that when I snipe someone from 400+ meters with a Mosin, there was LITERALLY nothing they could have done about it EXCEPT to completely avoid the area where a sniper MIGHT be operating.. Except, DayZ is an open-world map and there-for there could be snipers almost anywhere, and GOOD snipers will not be in OBVIOUS spots.. Sniping is a BAD GAME MECHANIC.. It's a BAD GAME MECHANIC for the very same reason it's a GOOD tactic.. Personally, I enjoy TACTICS in gaming, so again, I'm not complaining about sniping.. I'm just saying you're wrong in your thinking.
-
Pretty sure you're wrong.

You don't have to explain this to me.. I understand it on many levels and I don't feel that FPS games should be "counter" based.. My point still stands - it's a bad game mechanic because there's no counter-play. This is how game developers think and this is how they are trained.. And they are RIGHT, theoretically. It just becomes a matter of whether the community wants realism or balanced game-play. If you make sniper rifles super effective, they will be used and abused and it will become sniperfest 2015 up in DayZ SA.. And if the community is okay with that, COOL.. But it could hurt the overall game, and if devs feel it will, then they will attempt to balance it. I think the Dev team is trying to balance it in a "Realistic" and "authentic" way.. Which is good.

Sounds like you have a broken arm. Always carry a splint/morphine and use it every time you notice major sway.
-
While I don't 100% agree with some of the developer decisions, I will say that sniping, while fun for the sniper, is not a good game mechanic. Why? Because there's very little counter-play involved. If you have a scope that sees where I cannot see, and fires at ranges that I cannot fire, then all other things being equal, you win 100% of the time without me even knowing you're there. You can end my character without me being able to do anything about it. Now compare that to CQB, which you say has netcode issues, (which it assuredly does)... I disagree however on "whoever has the most numbers or the most gear, wins".. I cannot tell you how many times I have won fire fights when out-numbered or out-geared.. Gear in FPS games doesn't really make a huge difference. Skill wins CQB matchups. Don't get me wrong - I snipe and use assault rifles and shotguns and I love the Blaze.. So I'm not against one play style or the other. I'm just stating my opinion mixed with some facts. One of my favorite loadouts lately is a Mosin with an LRS and a double-barrel sawed off shotgun for close range encounters. I do agree however that a Mosin firing 7.62x51 should be a 1 or 2 shot kill... Maybe 3 shots if you hit nothing but extremities.

No problem? You did see my legs were broken, I was bleeding out, my arm was broken, all my cloths were ruined, most of my items were ruined, and my screen was gray, right? ... It was definitely a problem, and definitely the reason I died to the 3rd guy is because I had no legs. They were hitting me with legshots and arm shots.. That, and I'm a fucking badass. :)
-
Thanks man.. Worth noting - That's my 1st ever kill with a sawed off shotgun.. I was just going for broke and figured I was gonna die. Gotta say, it served me well in that fight. I also broke the legs of the 3rd guy with the shotty. (I stuck around and listened to him crawling around and shuffling on the ground looking for a stick just like I was while my friend ran in and finished him.)

Correlation is not causation.

Butt Hurt admins are ruining this game.

Sorry, but that's a stupid statement. The devs obviously care. Lurk more. -
I've been playing a lot of Experimental and I gotta say there are a few things that really need to be addressed with spawning... I'm finding buildings with like 20 of the same item stacked together. I'm finding buildings/areas with TONS of loot in them.. conversely I'm finding areas with absolutely no loot. Also.. Can we get a fix to the broken legs/instant death on upper levels of buildings? Please fix at least the loot problem before pushing to stable.

http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2fg3gu/testing_resuscitation_145/ I was a fresh spawn on a Hardcore experimental server, and I come across an armed friendly player who gave me some cloths, food, and a weapon. I promptly take my pants off and ask him to experiment with me by giving me mouth to mouth. I wasn't sure if resuscitation actually worked, seeing as I've tried it on a few of my friends and it never worked... but I think as long as your blood is above 500(?) it acts similar to an epi-pen.

Killshot and I travel to Svet and get jumped by a group of Bandits, who put themselves on the wrong end of our Blase95's. Also, expect to yell "YOU GOT KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT", near the end of the video. ;)
-
Is for me? :) I thought that was for when people posted stuff like "I'm going live!" etc.. Thought the gallery as a whole was for live-streams/youtube videos/screen shots?

Hey guys, some of you may know me from my DayZ videos, and others from these very forums where I often argue excessively. Well, now you can watch me on twitch! http://www.twitch.tv/etherimp A few facts - 1. I will be primarily playing hardcore 2. I will often (but not always) be playing with teammates 3. I will be attentive to my viewers 4. I will mostly be playing DayZ, but may fire up the stream occasionally to play other games such as X-COM Enemy Within, Star Control II, Spelunky, Insurgency, Faster than Light, DayZ Mod, League of Legends or whatever I am in the mood for. 5. I will generally be playing friendly, but always looking for action.. Schedule: Mon - Fri : ~6am - 10am GMT (Midnight MST) Sat - Sun : Variable hours, but probably starting earlier. Any and all support would be greatly appreciated, look forward to seeing you guys!

Agreed. All it takes is 1 headshot to end your character. But even then, when I first saw the guy run at me I didn't know he had a sported. Could have been an SKS for all I knew.
-
Sorry, but I disagree with you. A sporter is a threat, especially when all you have is a Blaze with about 8 ammo.. It's not like I was running around with an M4 or an AKM.. I was just as undergeared.. The guy on the hill had a Mosin with a LRS.. How was he "undergeared"? Maybe you should go watch my other videos before you judge what kind of player I am.. Better yet, maybe you should just enjoy the videos for what they are rather than trying to make morality judgments for the players when you have the advantage of hind-sight. Serious question, just out of curiousity, how many hours have you played this game, and how much experience did you have with the Mod?

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

Yeah for sure.. I didn't mean to insinuate that there was no other reliable way.. -
Maybe you didn't watch the video... Dude with a Clown mask is running at me with his gun out saying "STOP HIM STOP HIM STOP HIM", then proceeds to chase after me.. Furthermore, there was another guy with the same group of players who was sniping from on top of the mountain to the north of town. I don't see how you could not consider that "BANDIT" behavior.. Do you think he was trying to stop me to give me food? medical supplies? water? a gun? Think he just wanted to chat? Seemed to me a man with a gun chasing down a man who has his gun on his back, the man with the gun on his back better either run, or prepare for a fight.. I did both. Maybe I should just post videos of getting KOS'd while I stand there defenseless, then I'll satisfy people like you. I came out of the building in the beginning prepared to talk.. I had my gun on my back. I was standing there in the middle of the road ready for a friendly encounter after hearing "hello hello hello"... Friendly players don't charge at you saying "STOP HIM" with their guns drawn. Only reason he didn't fire is because he had a Sporter and he was outside of 50 meters. I tried to talk to his friend, I fired once, reconsidered because he was unarmed, then tried talking to him ... he continued to run away, loot the sporter off his friend, and open fire. Really, I am completely within my rights to call those people "BANDITS". If you want to give people the benefit of the doubt, have fun respawning then crying on the forums about "Bandits".
