It's not even about a realism argument here.. If you understand how the game mechanics behind unconsciousness work, then you know that this timer really won't work. Getting hit in the head or shot with a bullet (or concussive damage from grenades, I believe), gives you a stat called "Shock".. If your "shock" level exceeds your blood level, then you become unconscious.. Your shock level promptly begins to fade, and if your shock level no longer exceeds your blood level, then you become conscious again. If you drop below 600(?) blood, you have an increasing chance to go unconscious. So.. If you get shot, and you're losing blood, and your blood drops below 600, then you may never wake up without medical attention. If you get shot (or punched) and somehow you aren't bleeding, or you're healthy enough to be regenerating some blood, or the shot was "minor", you have a chance of returning to consciousness. So, see.. It's not as simple as "you got hit with X you will be out for Y seconds".. There are a bunch of variables behind it. The fact that you can go unconscious for 30 minutes is realistic and will allow people to come assist you (bandage you and give you saline, blood bags, or food/water), but without external assistance, you will not normally return to consciousness. Then there's times where you just take a minor blow, take some shock damage, and go out.. In these cases unless the person finishes you off or you're bleeding profusely, you have a good chance to survive. I don't see why you would need a timer.. Just click "respawn" if you wait for longer than 2 minutes or so. If you don't return to consciousness after a minute or two, odds are you won't unless someone heals you. That said.. I will sometimes get into gunfights with people, knock them unconscious with a shot to the body/leg, then patch them up, handcuff them, and treat them... So don't be quick to bail out on your character either. http://www.twitch.tv/etherimp/c/5323404 Here's an example of the "Serious" kind of unconsciousness being treated.

SVD > Blaze > Winchester. <-- Facts.

This will prevent everyone from "reading note" on empty scraps of paper, and will add to the cool factor and anticipation of coming across a note with "print" on it. Should be easy to do.. Just add black marks to the current paper model!

Best sniper rifle aside from the SVD right now is the Blaze95. You heard it here first, kids. (And no, I am not joking or trolling.)

Recently I have been in a LOT of fire-fights, and probably 2-3 of those fire fights I've experienced some serious "lag" while firing or while someone was firing at me. This usually comes in the form of the screen freezing for a brief moment, or for several moments, which basically renders me helpless and completely fucks up my aim/recoil control/movement. So.. My question is.. Is this something everyone experiences or is it something I can do stuff about on my end? An example of what I'm talking about: You can see, after the guy comes around the tree and I turn to the right, my screen froze for several seconds.. really bad frame loss. I'm not sure if this is a frame-rate related issue and it can be addressed or if it's something everyone is getting and it's caused by a memory leak or something. Also, whenever someone enters my network bubble, I get a similar type of "freezing" for a moment. In fact it's to the point now where I know when someone is within 1km of me, and I'll say it to my friend "there's someone around here".. Sure enough, almost every time, there's a player nearby. Again, is this something everyone is experiencing?

Lag during fire fights - A specific question
Etherimp replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, see, that's the thing.. I just had an encounter yesterday where I had a sawed off, and I am a master with that that.. I mean, I went on a month long tear where I was just using the Mosin w/ LRS, and Sawed off Shotgun for when I got close.. I tore through everyone with it. This encounter, however, as soon as I came around the corner and the guy started firing at me, I got massive frame drops and my game stuttered like crazy.. I fired the shotgun but god knows where the shots went, as I lost control of my crosshair during the lag.. Then I died shortly after. -
Lag during fire fights - A specific question
Etherimp replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
I haven't played stable in ... well, not sure I've played it at all.. Maybe for a few minutes. Either way, on experimental I get it. It really bothers me so I was wondering if I could do anything about it, but if everyone gets it I don't want to waste my time doing a bunch of junk to my computer and testing various things just to have no success either way. -
If you move your mouse from point A to point B, and you lose frames between those 2 points, your mouse will "skip". Calling it "mouse sensitivity" is not 100% accurate, but the effect is the same. Mouse movement is tied to frames on screen. The less frames you're getting, the jerkier your mouse movements. This is a known fact, especially so among competitive gamers. The original poster in this thread breaks it down pretty well, although he seems to believe it's tied specifically to Titan Fall, which it's not.. It's true in many FPS games. https://www.reddit.com/r/titanfall/comments/20q00p/psa_your_mouse_sensitivity_is_tied_to_your/

Are you Caboose? Wasn't that guy banned for trolling? Hmm.. Odd how both of you used Transformer avatars.
-
Nobody said performance changes.. Re-read what I wrote. FPS LOSS (which is ever present in DayZ, especially in cities and in gunfights) causes mouse-sensitivity to be inconsistent. In 1st person this effect is WORSE than in 3rd person, because in 3rd person you can see more around you, so you can regain control of which way you're aiming/looking much easier than you can in 1st person. If you want us to test this so I can prove it to you, I'm more than willing to do that.

Not CSGO... Counter-Strike. Counter-Strike (Beta) came out in 1999 and saw prominent tournament play from around 2002 until just recently (like 2012). There were only 2 real "tactical shooters" at the time, and that was Rainbow Six (1998) and Counter-Strike the HL Mod. This was WAY before BF2 (2005) and around the same time as Ghost Recon.. Ghost Recon came out November of 2001. Arma II wasn't released until 2009. Operation Flashpoint, 2001. My original comment: COUNTER-STRIKE <-- NOT CSGO Is the FIRST <-- 1999 is BEFORE 2001 SUCCESSFUL <-- In 2001-2002, Rainbow Six and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear together sold 450,000 copies, As of December 3, 2008, the original Counter-Strike had sold 4.2 million retail copies, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero had sold 2.9 million, Counter-Strike (Xbox) had sold 1.5 million, and Counter-Strike: Source had sold 2.1 million. Digital sales via Steam are not factored in. I think it's fair to say that my statement is 100% correct. CS was the first successful tactical FPS.. Maybe instead of arguing against it, perhaps we should take some lessons from why CS was so successful and use that to make a better DayZ.. Not saying I want DayZ to include/introduce Arcade-y game-play and small-maps.. But here's a list of things that DayZ COULD use from CS and NOT ruin the aesthetic or spirit of DayZ. 1. Grenade physics (CSGO honestly has some of the best grenade physics ever..) 2. Recoil (The way you can pull down on your crosshair in CS games to compensate for recoil) 3. FOV (FOV in CS is locked.) 4. Optimization... Unfortunately this may not even be possible within the engine... but this is to say that the engine/game SHOULD be much better optimized; I don't think anyone can argue with that. Combine that with improving some of the map issues as I explained in a previous post, and you DayZ would actually be playable on 1pp.
-
Stating facts about CS is quotable in your sig? Whatever makes you feel good sweetheart.
-
I listed off 7 quality of life and performance issues which would make 1st person playable and more popular than it currently is and you call me a troll.... You know calling someone a troll doesn't remove what they said from the internet, right? You know that no matter how much you call someone a troll, the other readers on the forums will see how you responded to perfectly good points and you'll be chalked up as the troll, right? You REALIZE that you're fucking new here and these arguments have all been made 1000 times before you, right? You REALIZE that you're not contributing ANYTHING to this, right?! Kay.. Just sayin'.

Guy with 70 posts on the forums telling everyone which is the "correct" way to play... News flash, smart guy - ARMA II DayZ Mod was/is 100% 3rd person servers. Listen, I have no problem with 1st person. If DayZ switched over to 100% 1st person locked servers TOMORROW, I'd still play it, on the caveat that they fix some of the glaring issues with it. 1. Improve performance so most people can get 60+ FPS in cities. 2. Give an option to go "3pp" in vehicles. 3. Lock FOV for everyone to ~90. 4. Slightly increase the interior size of most buildings. 5. Fix clipping/step issues with world objects such as rocks/branches/etc etc. 6. Fix desync/player teleporting/skipping issues. 7. Fix/add animations for certain things (For example - If you're running and you want to switch guns while having your gun UP in the "ready" position, the game stops you in place and forces you to stand still while the animation plays.... Reason? Missing animation.) Fix those things, and 1pp would be fine to play on.

Once again.. I NEVER SAID there was a DROP in FPS when you go 1st person vs 3rd person.. The DIFFERENCE is that your mouse movement is not SMOOTH. When you DROP FRAMES your MOUSE SKIPS. The MOUSE SKIPPING causes disorientation and horrible tracking. In 3rd person it's easier to compensate for this. In 1st person it's game-breaking. I guarantee it's not my fucking PC, as EVERYONE has frame drops in DayZ.. I get 70-100 FPS in open fields, and 11-20 in cities.. My PC is fine. This GAME however is NOT optimized and that's well known by the entire community including the Devs.. The fact that you tell me to get a "better PC" to play DayZ is fucking laughable. -Intel I-5 4570 @ 3.20 ghz -12GB Ram -GeForce GTX 760 192bit. CS IS and always has been a tactical shooter.. If you think it's easy to jump in to that's because you've never played it. Does it have "arcade" elements to it? Yes.. But it also has a MUCH higher skill cap than any other First Person Shooter. If you are a god in CS, you can dominate in any other FPS game.. But the converse is not usually true. I promise you, if you try to "jump into" CS like you claim, you'll get your shit pushed in for the first month or two.. if not longer. As far as "using your head" to look around inside of buildings and laying in bushes and shit... Sorry, but it's just not the same and for you to argue that it is the same is .. silly. Not even close. If I'm in 3rd person I can easily avoid getting stuck in doorways and I can see where loot is in a room and I can see where the chairs and shit are without having to spin my head around like a maniac trying to find everything that I could possibly trip over in a "life or death" situation. Rest of your post is just ad hominem so I won't bother with it.

1. Inconsistent/low FPS exist in 3pp and 1st person.. I wasn't stating that FPS in 1st person was worse. 2. Yeah yeah.. See above. I wasn't saying there was a difference. 3. You can suddenly lose visual markers because your effective field of view is dropped down significantly and everything looks the same. Ever looked under a microscope? Same effect. Most FPS games have small maps.. Corridors and hallways. You can usually see from one end of the map to the other.. Even in games like Battlefield, there aren't a bunch of trees and bushes and grass, etc etc. Saying "CSGO is a completely different genre" is not an argument. They are NOT a completely different Genre. Counter-Strike was the first successful Tactical FPS ... TACTICAL, FIRST, PERSON, SHOOTER.. And it's one of the most popular FPS games of all time.. There's a REASON it's popular.. There's a REASON there are tournaments for it which offer thousands of dollars in prize money. 4. No... Those things don't move closer to you BUT YOU RUN INTO THEM MORE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SEE YOUR SURROUNDINGS AS WELL IN 1ST PERSON.. I do not understand what's so difficult to grasp about that. 5. Right.. Don't lay in a bush because you're playing on Hardcore.. Thanks for pointing out exactly why people don't play on hardcore. 6. See my above post. I tried to make a rather concise post, but I knew that the "HARDCORE" elitism would not allow you to concede any points what-so-ever and you would blindly defend your precious hardcore mode.. Guess what dude? You're not hardcore. It doesn't make you any better of a player. If you like it, THATS FINE.. I'm not telling you that you shouldn't play on hardcore servers. You're the one trying to do that to people who play on normal servers. But the fact that you can't even admit there are flaws with DayZ/ARMAIII First person perspective is just.. laughable. What other first person perspective games have you played, out of curiosity? What other FPS games?

I didn't give a reason because it was like 1 or 2 in the morning and I was tired and didn't feel like pointing out ALL of the reasons why driving in DayZ in 1st person is horrible. Look at EVERY game with vehicles, including racing games.. MOST of them have a 3rd person perspective WHILE in vehicles. Why? Because your single monitor cannot properly simulate all of the aspects of human vision and perspective that make it possible to drive "just like real life". This is why extremely realistic driving simulators, when driven in first person, are best played with 3+ monitors. Like this:

OP, 3rd person on 3rd person servers is not a "cheat"... If you don't want to use 3pp, don't use it.. Go play on Hardcore servers. Go on.. Nobody is stopping you. ...What's that you say? 1st person servers are always empty? Aww shucks.. Now you know why people play on 3pp servers. Because hardcore's always empty/low pop...because people prefer 3pp, because 1pp in DayZ is shit, for several reasons: 1. Inconsistent/low FPS 2. Low FPS results in jumpy mouse response.. (With high fps mouse speed will be fine, and smooth.. when FPS cuts down, mouse movement becomes jittery) This effect is worse in 1pp. 3. Visual clutter. In most FPS's (Say, CSGO), everything is clean and models/players "stand out" from the environment.. In DayZ, you can see 1000 meters away, and there's SO much to take in that the wider perspective 3pp offers allows your mind to pick out movement/color change easier, which makes getting your bearings easier. In 1pp, it's easy to lose your sense of direction because it's easier to lose visual "markers" 4. Small buildings/entrances/doorways, short cielings, clutter in rooms/buildings/environment.. Stuff that basically forces you to get stuck/be unable to move fluidly.. All of this is prevented/helped with 3pp, where you can see your surroundings better and see what your feet are doing. 5. Laying in trees/bushes/on a hill.. In 1pp it's very difficult for you to get a sense of how hard you are for others to see or how well hidden you are.. in 3rd person, you can see your surroundings better so you know how your body is fitting into those surroundings. 6. Driving vehicles in 1pp is just downright retarded.. nuff said. The above list is VALID and FACTUAL reasons why 3pp is more "playable/user friendly".. This is not a matter of OPINION.. These are facts. It's not that you're "Better".. It's not a matter of "getting used to it".. Yeah, I could "get used" to all of those things, but only by intentionally making my gaming experience in DayZ categorically "worse" than it is on 3pp servers. I play other FPS games fine without 3pp. Battlefield, CSGO, Insurgency, you name it... Because those games were designed around being FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS.. DayZ is .. not really. I'm so sick of 1pp elitism. Please just stop. Don't make any more threads like this and stop arguing this topic. People play what they like, and what makes them comfortable.

Sad thing is.. even with as "forested" as that map is, there were very few safe places to hide vehicles/tents. Step 1: Repair/steal a helicopter Step 2: Fly around the borders of the map Step 3: ??? Step 4: Profit! Trick is... If you had 1 helicopter, you had to get them all, other-wise people would do the same to you.. Then once you had all the helicopters you could collect as many vehicles as you wanted.. Then once you had that, it was just a matter of squashing other peoples camps.. then before you know it, the server you're on dies because nobody can find vehicles and their camps keep getting raided.. Then you just have helicopters, vehicles, a huge camp, and nobody to use it all on. :(
-
The entire western side of the map (west of Kamenka, all the way North past Zeleno, Myshkino, and Lopatino) is nothing but forest and fields. In the mod it was prime real-estate for hidden camps.

ahaha.. I lolled. It's cool, I'm done.. Just when ratchet ass forum goers come out the cut and get outta line I gotta snatch some weaves.

I have about 1000 hours in this game and untold/uncounted hours in the DayZ Mod.. Been playing both games combined for over 2 years. I've been a Hero with over 11,000 humanity and I've been a bandit with -500,000 humanity. I've done squad-play down in Elektro/Berezino in Standalone, and I've spent countless hours around Zeleno, Veresnik, Vybor, NWAF, and elsewhere. Because I NOW mainly stick to the NW areas of the map does not mean I've NEVER repeatedly killed entire squads over and over on the coast. The two are not mutually exclusive. Says me. See above. Bad play = Shit players (usually kids) holding down fire button from their Duped M4/AK on Freshspawns. Sitting in the Red houses or camping in the firestation, shooting everything they see, and as soon as someone shows up who can actually defend themselves, they shit their pants and combat log. I don't see what this has to do with anything... Any full pop server will have PVP action and any full pop server will be a stress test. Fact is, you're much more likely to see dupers, teleporters, script kiddies, and squads of 12 year old scrubs capping freshies on the coast than you are at NWAF. Clearly you've never watched the Survivor Games.. Survivor games are TEAMS of players who work together and get restricted to a smaller and smaller operating area. Everyone is on equal terms, and nobody gets to run back to their body. Are you high? Already did. Each of the below videos I (or a friend and I) wipe out at least 1 squad. There's more, but I got tired of linking. Sounds like you're one of the scrubs that hangs around Elektro/Berezino with constantly ruined gear and doesn't partake in the actual "survival" aspect of this game at all. Maybe you're not aware of this ... but there are other FPS games out there with much better PVP than DayZ.. Counter-Strike Global Offensive, ARMA III Wasteland, and Insurgency come to mind.. Bold words for someone on the forums. Did you play CS1.6? Do you play CSGO? If so, what's your rank? Ever played any competitive FPS? Ever run a successful team? Ever won money on LAN? Ever won any tournaments or climbed any ladders or been in the playoffs for any leagues? If not, then I think you should chill your tits and know your role. This is a whole lot of putting words into my mouth. You want to see me in action? I have a plethora of videos to choose from in a variety of games. I never stated that I was forced to stay anywhere, I never whined about killing anyone, and if you don't find me "realistic" or "believable" that's your fucking problem. Do some research before you open your mouth, next time. edit: Formatting.

Gotta agree with Frosti on this one. It's why I avoid the coast - By the time you kill the squad of fully geared assholes camping Elektro/Berezino, 50% of them have already respawned and are regearing off their own dead body, and now you have to kill them again (or they kill you). This basically turns any spawn area into a deathmatch, and it rewards bad play. "You were camping in the firestation with 3 friends in elektro and one of you got sniped? No problem! Just get an Elektro spawn and be back in the action within 5 minutes." This is why I stick to the Northern/Western areas of the map.. I know for a fact that if I kill someone it will take them between 20 to 40 minutes to get back to their body, and by that time I've already killed all of their friends and either disposed of their gear or taken it for myself. A few solutions to the spawning could be... 1. Progressively longer timer between deaths (as mentioned above).. 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, if the deaths all happen within a ~5 minute time-frame. 2. Simply spawn people in the same place if they suicided within 10 minutes of spawning. The game knows whether you died to another player or died on your own. If you fell off a ladder innocently, it actually works for you since it'll give you a chance to get back any gear you lost. 3. Temporarily ban ALL players who die for 5 minutes. This stops them from being in the server at all.. In 5 minutes they can relog in and respawn, but it prevents people from running back to their bodies (as bodies will be despawned within 5 minutes.)

GUID and IP included in the description. The guys over on ZAP/UN hardcore server were kind enough to provide it after I posted this video for them. Do what you will with the info.
