Perhaps have the camelbak use one of the tool slots at the bottom instead? It is after all usually it's own backpack-esque thing that you can wear under your normal backpack.
-
Another thought, a rare loot item could be a 3 liter camelbak. Two slots perhaps but a lot more uses.
-
How about we split the difference and make it 3 uses? A liter is approximately 35 ounces, where as the soda's in the game are 12 ounce cans. So a full canteen roughly equals 3 sodas in total volume.

Mobile encampment/trading vehicle and camp structures.
Land Squid posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
My group has been employing tents as kind of a communal donation box. Where-ever our current encampment may be, we pitch one or two and cram extra items we bring back from our scavenging trips into it ensuring any new or recently deceased members will have better resources than normal at their disposal (benefit of community survival versus loner). I noted the limited tent storage space (excess items get dumped onto the ground around the tent only to disappear during restarts and such) and the immobility as compared to some of the vehicles we've acquired and I'd like to suggest a potential vehicle if it isn't already in the game as a random occurance already. Heavy cargo vehicles: MTVR, Ural truck, etc. Limited passenger space (say, driver, codrive, and two guys sitting at the tailgate watching their six), but superlative gear storage (the MTVR for instance can carry 7 tons of cargo cross country). This would allow groups to have semi-mobile encampments along with a good community storage system. It would also allow the more enterprising players to possible put together some roving traders. Find some good stuff, load up the truck and drive down to the coast where you might trade for things with other players. 10 cans of beans for a map, 15 for a compass, anyone? Also, in the same vein as group encampments and placeable items like C-wire and sandbags, would it be possible to have player placeable items such as hesco barriers and large military tents? I figure the two would probably work as max inventory sized items (ie. they take up the full twelve inventory spaces available) and would take much, MUCH, longer to erect than the common camping tents and barrier items. These items would be useful for groups to build their own little bases somewhere in the forest. Step 1: Find primary cargo mover. Step 2: Repair and recover primary cargo mover. Step 3: Acquire placeable structure items. Step 4: Load said items into said cargo mover and head for the hills. Step 5: ??? Step 6: Profit! -
MERGED: changes to inventory system

I, for one, would be more than happy to assist the game developers in this regard. It would just be a matter of me walking 30 feet from my computer, opening a weapons locker and pulling a variety of items out for measurement and scale pictures (being ex-Mil and a trained gunsmith does tend to help in this regard as well  ). -
Please send a PM to one of our server admins (Chaos, etc.) with the name of the offending person (their name should show up on the lower left side of the screening if VOIP'ing over a global channel).

Just wanted to post an act of self policing... Was at the NWAF with a second legion member a couple days ago when a group of 3-4 other players made a bid for the place. After I was killed by a sniper the other, now lone, Legion member logged off in a panic. He was promptly admonished by myself and a couple other Legion members on our teamspeak server for this and he immediately logged bag in to continue the fight. We expect others to obey certain rules on our server such as not quitting out of PVP combat, so it's only just that we enforce it on our own members.

3rd person view and other aid’s? discussion .
Land Squid replied to orbital's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
3rd Person: Should definately be removed as it is used as an unfair battle mechanic that I would argue is approaching the level of cheating/wall hacking. My personal experience was this morning. After putting together a group of Legion members, and even grabbing a couple new players off the coast (funny, from the whining on this board you would think the only thing Legion does is shoot those noobs on sight, not help them) we made a run for the NWAF. When we arrived at the south barracks there I saw a person not in our group go running inside. This person, El Da Sensei, laid down in the barracks and then proceeded to use third person to see over and through the windows, and when my character approached the exterior of the barracks he simply shot through the wall using the 3rd person aiming reticle. By the by, and as an ode to this person's nature, he promptly hid my corpse and quit out before my 7 friends could deal with him. Crosshairs: Remove, for same reason as above. Also I find I almost never use them, if it's past touching distance I always use the iron sights for more accuracy. Player Names: In real life you're able to recognize a persons face/body/posture/etc. from a significant distance away. In this game though everyone is one of two skins, and even if we all used different faces the resolution offered by monitors is just not enough to allow you to recognize people beyond a dozen meters. This is where the player names come in handy and I believe they should be kept. If you've got a clear line of sight and the person within a couple hundred meters their name should show to you in order to fulfil this lack of normal recognition means. -
Found an M14 Aimpoint and M21 DMR last night in a single run to the NWAF. Also earlier during a clan get together in server I counted a VSS, M4 CCO SD, camo'd M4A3, M24, and about four M240's being toted about along with most of the crew having NVG's. Then some dumb bandit tried to solo raid our group at our encampment with a CZ 550. The result was glorious. :D Also found an L109 frag grenade last night, instead of the usual M67's.

Another possible hacker attack or admin abuse
Land Squid replied to priestizzle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Earlier this night on Dallas 4 we had a report of a hacker wandering around Cherno spamming RPG's and demolishing buildings. :/ -
If I might suggest something other than no-PVP zones.... Why not survivor NPC guards? Okay, you have a designated trading post. That's nice. Now it also has some guard towers and such, and while you are absolutely free to PK there if you so desire, the result is that if the guards see you kill someone they will flag you as hostile and in turn try to kill you if possible (say, if you PK someone with 500-1000 meters of the TP). This way you do get an established commerce system in the game, while also keeping the realistic freedom of choice, but coupled with the actual consequences you would see in real life (aside, of course, from permanent death). ETA: By the by, I don't think I made it clear that death isn't a certainty. If you manage to get enough bandits together it should be feesable to pick off the NPC guards with your choice of tactics and raiding the TP, but it would be highly improbable for bandits to do it all onesey-twosey's like. By the by, another aspect of the TP I think should be addressed is where the goods are coming from. Personally I think only stuff brought in by players should be available for sale. Say you scavenge a couple DMR mags and an extra compass. But those are useless for you since you use a Winchester and already have a compass. Take those to the TP and sell them to the merchant there for X currency, then if someone else has sold some winchester shells there that you can use, you can buy those from the merchant. As to player setup trading posts: My clan was doing something similar with tents, we were storing extra gear in a secure location for the use of clan-mates. The problem we ran into however was A: tents are not currently persistant over server restarts and B: the limited ammount of stuff you can stash in the tent (cram too much in and it starts spilling out onto the ground). It would be nice if there were some storage crates in game that we could haul to our base camp and set down which has enhanced capacity and restart-persistance, kind of a group share box. Or, of course, just making tents restart-persistant and perhaps able to hold more? :P Also a small request for tents: Being able to label them so you know which belongs to whom or what it's supposed to contain if you have several in one encampment.

Get rid of humanity and allow everyone to choose a skin they want.

Concur. I'd much prefer character appearance to be user selectable. Should also help alleviate the whole model-change bug out and gear loss. -
Any Military Vets Around that want to Group Up?
Land Squid replied to Black (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Was running around with the Legion guys last night. They seem to have their shit squared away. Thinking perhaps we can put together a Vet specific company/division in their clan? -
Still can't vote, but yes, scrap them. I'd much prefer a system where you can customize the appearance of your character by finding clothing/body armor/etc.

Former Navy Petty Officer here (CTR2), would definately like to link up with you guys. -
As someone who was taught how to start IV's (Army CLS training) I'm curious why you can't self-administer these in game. It's not as intensive an operation as, say, a minor surgical procedure, or as awkward as trying to self-suture a wound on your back.

Something I'd suggest in addition to being able to consolidate remaining ammo in mags, is the ability to see how many rounds are left in a mag. That way you know which to discard in order to free up inventory space.

Bandit Skin change issue (all lost)
Land Squid replied to Riddick (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This happened to me last night. Went from survivor to bandit and the game locked up. After disconnecting and reconnecting it dumped me out in the ocean and lost all my gear. Dumb question I'm sure, but is there any way to get a gear and location restore? I'd hate to think 12 hours of play were wasted due to the bug. -
Was going to point out that those numbers were grid coordinates but someone already beat me to it. Listening to the background noise it sounds like a mixture of Burst MFSK, PSK, Plaintext, ASK and some simple CW tones. At the end there's a morse sequence. I took a crack at it and what I have so far is thus: WE ARE NO LONGER ALIVE STOP MESSAGE THIS MESSAGE WILL PLAY EVERY --- I'll post the rest when I get it decoded, I was interupted last night by a pesky thing called work. :P
