We already have hunting knives and entrenching tools in the game. Why not a simple melee attack function that uses whichever one (or the better of the two) that you're carrying? Personally I think that would make the E-tool far more functional than just filling the very very rare sandbags.

Why are they kicking players off without cause? I joined when the population was 9/50, had walked about 50 feet and was suddenly ejected with no warning or reason given. If passwording a server to restrict it to those you wish isn't allowed, why would selectively kicking people to keep the population to those you "approve of" be?

Considering it said "You have been kicked!" yeah I'm fairly sure. As it turns out it would seem that those players bearing my clan tag have been getting kicked from that server routinely. After hearing from similar treatment by my clanmates I switched to a pseudonym without my clan tag. Was able to connect and stay on the US Hardcore 1 server without any issue not 5 minutes after getting the boot out the door the first time. I'm rather curious as to what is the Dev team's take on blatant prejudice and targeting of a specific group of players for exclusion from servers, namely the US Hardcore and Chicago servers.

IMO I think it would be cool to have the amount of light at nighttime to coincide with the moon cycle. In A-stan when it was a full moon out you didn't need your flashlights to get around. When it was a new moon though, you couldn't see your hand in front of your face and if it was overcast as well even NVG's were having a hard time letting you see.

So lets assume for a moment that a group of players has taken over one of the local mountains and has spent a week rigging it with a good defensive perimeter. Sandbags, barb wire, concealed machine gun nests and sniper hides. The only way in or out on that server is via the helicopter they've dutifully recovered and repaired. What's to keep a player who wants in from switching to another server, walking in, switching back to that server, and looting the tents dry before disconnecting again? This seems to be a bit of an oversight with the current system. I don't really have many good ideas to fix this other than a spawning exclusion zone of some sort that moves you to the edge of it when you spawn in. But that kind of solution doesn't really appeal. Ideas from the communition?

A guy shooting me through a wall while proned out and using third person view to see over the windows and then hiding my body and disconnecting so I couldn't recover my gear. (He disconnected so my 7 friends wouldn't get to kill him.) Lost an M240, 5 belts of ammo and NVG's. -
I like, but in general I'm all for more player placeable items. Be nice if you could slowly build a proper fort.

It's also hideously slow. Like 30kph. A BDRM or BTR-90 would be a nice find though. Speaking on the subject of armaments though, since the helipads where you'd normally land to re-equip are gone in DayZ, how exactly are you supposed to reload the door MG's?

AFAIK the heli crashes are death traps. To get at the gear you have to get into them, but if you get into them you die. :/ Farming Protip: Clear everything you can move out of the buildings. Dump the trash and unneeded items outside, haul the good loot back to the firehouse for disbursement to your team mates or any friends looking to come by the airfield for scavenge, but be sure to empty the barracks and hangars totally (obvious exception being the stupid body bag spawns that can't be moved). When you empty the buildings of everything it causes them to respawn faster. Couple that with camping out there for a few hours and you should be able to chance into some decent drops. Another Protip: The reason Legion has managed to acrue so much good gear is because we generally move in packs. If some bandit kills one of our guys he never gets the chance to loot them because our still living friends shoot the every-loving crap out of the bandit and they either die or disconnect (more often the latter) and thus after we respawn and hike back to our group we are able to recover our gear most of the time. If immediate recovery isn't possible a friend picks the best gear off your body (usually main weapon, NVG's, GPS) and holds them till you can get them back. This buddy support system is truly invaluable, as once you do finally manage to get that super rare NVG drop in the barracks you are more like to keep ahold of them for a long time.

Server hopping to avoid player defenses?

Hmm. Would it be possible to put a couple derelict LHD ship in each of the servers, but at a slightly different location? That would provide the air-access-only bases for those groups that band together and get helis working, and if they're at different locations in the water people wont be able to server-hop past your defenses. -
They only spawn in the barracks at the NWAF currently, and it's some miniscule like 0.12% chance. We've only found ours really because we take over the airfield with 10+ folks at a time and farm it for hours and hours on end (btw that's also how that pile of guns in the above picture was created :P )

Best I've had? M240 w/ 6x 100rd belts M4A1 CCO SD w/ 17x 30rd mags DMR w/ 8x 20rd mags M9SD w/ 6x 15rd mags NVG's Ruck Pack Stuff I've also found but let a teammate pick up cause I didn't need it: Mk48 Mod0, several M14 AIM's, an M24, several DMR's, etc. I don't even bother to keep track of the Russian weaponry I stumble across anymore. :P

But where did the infection come from? Secret research lab with monkeys that got loose? Also I've seen boar in the game. Not hostile though. I literally just walked up to one and shot it in the head with my pistol to harvest the meat. Making some hostile four legged predators would keep us on our toes in the deep woods at night, but how do you reconcile their behavor versus a group of people. A lynx probably wouldn't try to attack 10 humans together in a group..... or maybe it would. *shrug*

Surefire G2X Pro: 2 hours @ 200 lumens, 40 hours @ 15 lumens. Also fair enough about the time loss. It's been about 5 years since I was being paid by uncle sam to play with satellites so I've likely forgotten a bunch of stuff. ;)
