Something that I'm not sure the devs are aware of yet, but I hope gets taken into consideration when they look at tweaking the AI: Currently the zeds run away from frags just like they're still the old Arma II AI. My group was stuck up on a hospital surrounded by about 30 of them so we thought to try tossing down a smoke grenade to concentrate them (worked) and then tossing a frag into their midst to thin the herd. The moment the frag hit the ground they scattered like cockroaches even though the smoke was still burning.

Also is there any explanation regarding the time discrepencies on some servers? Was on a Dallas server last night, it was about 0100 in the GMT-6 (CST) but the server was broad daylight at the time. What gives?

Would a GUID approved server ever be possible?
Land Squid replied to survivalist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A better system, rather than kicking people for others who have priority, would be a system where you have a few sets of player slots. Say on a 60 person server you have 35 free public slots that anyone can join under, and then 24 reserved slots for specific GUID's and 1 reserved slot for an Admin. This way groups who host servers can ensure there's room for their members while also preventing the private server issue AND eliminating the need to kick people for space (which I really don't much care for) If more people with approved GUID's join and the reserved slots are full, they get to take their chances at a public slot. If there's no public slots? Too bad, server's full. If more than one admin joins, they get to first try for a reserved slot and then a public slot. If they're all full? Again, too bad, so sad. -
It should be daylight at all times! Oh, and everyone should start out with Mk-48's and M136's! lulz

It would be useful as a silent sort of weapon. Trapped on the roof of a building, horde of zombies below. Attract the nearby zeds with a smoke and then light them up with a few molotovs without pulling the attention of everything in town. Area denial effect as well. Blocking a building entrance with fire for a few minutes causing any shamblers to catch fire and die if they come through it. Fill the bottles at any big gas tank, or fill 4-5 at one time from a single jerry can. Definately should need matches in order to light and throw them.

Well here's a thought that takes your ownership bit in a new direction. Option 5: The Flagpole. Essentially anyone can place items at the camp, and if they are within 250-500 meters of the flagpole structure those items take on the ownership properties of said FP. The FP itself should be able to have multiple assigned owners (addable by the person who placed it) and it should remain over player deaths (ie. the guy who placed it dies and the flagpole remains, ownership perhaps passing to the next person on it's list.) Items in the camp could still get blown up or bulldozed by attacking players of course, but I suppose this could solve the random guy walking up and taking your hesco wall away with him. Edit: It would also be handy for identifying camps from a distance if the players could select a graphic and have it overlayed on a flying flag at the top of the pole.

Being able to barricade door-sized openings with boards would be nice. There's a few buildings I can think of that my group regularly occupies. Being able to close off all but one or two of the entrances would be very handy. Chopping through said barricades (either with the edge of the E-tool or with a small hatchet out of the tool box) should be a very noisy affair that takes about a minute or so.

As far as I know, if the player who placed it dies, and the tent isn't resaved by someone else/the same guy, it'll vanish after a few days. As to question 2, I wish I could steal a tent. Would be handy. Also wish I could hang a small sign on it saying it belongs to so-and-so. Would help with the large camps of many players with several tents scattered around.

I might be the exception, but I do. Chalk that one up to a youth spent in the boyscouts. Give me a pile of spars and some rope and I can whittle up several different structures up to and including a trebuchet. Look at the deer stands in the game, they are good examples of pioneering construction. As the few remaining survivors in the zombie apocalypse I think it would be a reasonable assumption that the players in the game are smarter than the average bear if you will, if nothing else they could look at the deer stands and learn how to build that type of structure monkey-see-monkey-do style. If the rest of the structures are either tents, sandbags stacked up or essentially giant tubs filled with dirt (hesco barriers) the construction knowledge required would be pretty low. Hell, anyone in the game can find engine parts and repair a UH-1H helicopter, a watch tower should be a cinch. :P

The point wasn't directed at communicating with strangers. I get that and don't mind the game being limited to direct communication. Just saying that if this was supposed to be targetted at coordinated groups of players that are already working together, it will fail because they will use outside systems to get around the communication restriction. Or, as some servers do, they have their TS information posted as part of the MOTD when you log in. In that case everyone will be able to talk to each other, stranger or friend, and again the communication limitation that was intended has been circumvented. *shrug* Personally I use Side chat just for bullshitting or helping out players with questions (how do I do X, what server is this, etc.), but never declare anything in-game over it, such as my location or asking who is at what place. That's a sure fire way to bring in the bandits.

And people who don't have the radios will just use teamspeak or another VOIP client. It's nice from a gameplay/RPG standpoint but with such an easy work around that particular game mechanic the dev's time would probably be better spent elsewhere. :/

Oh, another vehicle idea, but deals with players altering the world around them. Bulldozer: Time to start clearing all those damned roadblocks and wrecks! Very slow vehicle (like 20kph max) but able to "clear" (pretty much just delete or destroy) the piles of rubble and wrecked vehicles, and perhaps even demolish buildings if the driver isn't careful.

Make rain automatically fill water bottle.

Some of us range pretty far off the beaten trail to avoid other players until we are ready or wish to make a foray into a populated area. An 8 kilometer hike through the extreme north or west portions of the map is a regular occurance and when you're that far out food supplies can become an issue. Presently I can hunt for food if I'm looking to stay out of towns or off the coast for a length of time (such as meeting up at an encampment with friends), but there is no method to acquire water that doesn't involve heading into populated/dangerous areas fairly regularly (especially since you need water more often than you need food in the game). Being able to fabricate a rain catcher out of a poncho+canteen (for individual use) or barrel+tarp (for group use at a camp) would go a good ways to allowing players to establish a self-sustaining presence somewhere out in the wilderness from which to operate. -
This strikes me as an extreme waste. Currently you can't reload the door guns on the Iroquois, better to save that ammo for when you need it (supporting your buddies getting attacked at the NWAF for instance) rather than just spawn-trolling.

Good distance shot without any magnifier or scope in use. Here's a closeup pic that shows a bit how things very close start to get fuzzy depending on how you have it focused. And this is of a rock formation at 500 meters with the NVG using a x3 magnifier.. Edit: Found a pic from taken using some PVS-7C's in that thread' date=' figured it'd be germane to post considering the in-game NVG's are -7's. [img']http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/9679/nvjv4.jpg That bloom on the horizon is a city 30 miles away. Out on the Red Sea during my first deployment our NVG's would pick up the gas flares on oil rigs that were over the horizon.

I may have to split loot with my friends that I roll with but the benefit of having them with me far outweighs that. The last 2 or 3 times I've died I was able to get back all my gear because I had buddies to kill/run off the bandits and guard my corpse. Considering I've managed to collect up NVG's, GPS, M4 CCO SD, etc. cooperation with a larger group is truly invaluable and I never hestitate to repay the service in kind; most recently Mr.C killed one of my team mates trying to steal a car we got working, unfortunately for him they were coming to pick me up and from my hidden position in the trees I put half a STANAG SD mag into him for his trouble and Mr.C never got to loot my friend that he killed.

Umm' date=' not to be contrary but it isn't hard as long as the water isn't moving quickly. The pack itself floats if you have a drybag liner side. You can also wrap the pack in a poncho to provide an extra layer of waterproofing if you need. (Source: I've done a 30m water crossing during my time in the military.) But yeah, spawning on islands off the mainland is a pain in the ass! :D [/quote'] +1 The current modus operandi with military packs is to put all your spare clothing and stuff in ziplock bags. 1: Your clothing and stuff stays dry for when you want to use it. 2: All those trapped air pockets make for great buoyancy. And if you have to make a deep water crossing you can just take your pack off and use it like a big fat paddleboard.

Make a gear item called a Poncho (like the other gear items, knife, gps, etc.). Multiple uses: Use it to help keep yourself from getting cold/sick in the rain and also can be used as a collection device to refill canteens. Also gives an idea for a future player-placeable item for encampments: Large tarp setup as a water catcher funneling into a barrel. Gives you a point similar to the water wells where you can fill a canteen. -
Something my friends and I noticed regarding the zombie AI... We were on the roof of a hospital with a horde below us. We tossed down a smoke grenade to mass the zombies in one spot and then were going to toss down a frag to clear them, except the moment the frag hit the ground the zombies all ran away from it. This seems like a bit of an oversight with the zed AI.
