  1. I'm having some trouble downloading the DayZ Standalone alpha. My internet is extremely slow and as such can only download 2-3 gigs a night. The problem, however, comes in when an update is released and the download is stopped for whatever reason. When the download is resumed, it starts from the beginning (Steam bug), meaning I have lost most of my progress. This has happened twice so far. What I'm asking for is a torrent or FTP of the current (or close to it) DayZ alpha build. My plan is to download that and place it in the appropriate Steam folder and have Steam verify the game files. After that, I can just download any updates that I might have missed during this period. This will help me a lot as it means I have the bulk of the alpha and don't have to download everything once an update is released, just the update itself. I've tried searching for it on Google but all I can find are the cracked versions, which I'm not sure will work with Steam.

    PVE Servers

    Just stop and think for a bit how boring a server without PvP would be. After 10 hours of play you have everything in the game, even maybe a helicopter if you are lucky. What do you do now? Infinitely farm NWAF so you have 1000000000000 weapons? Then what do you do with that? Shoot trees? The main reason there even is high end gear in the game is solely for PvP. Just think about it for a minute. Even a low-tier pistol can 1 shot zombies, why need anything bigger? The game is so boring without PvP. I don't even go out my way to kill other players but the sheer adrenaline rush you get from seeing another player, not even having him shoot at you, as an experience unlike any other. PvE would just get boring after maybe a week for the most fanatic "MUST HAF UBER 1337 GEARZ" boys.
  4. It is different. People are killing other players left and right. At least it's not because of bandit skins any more. Now it's more because people find it too easy to survive alone and get bored, so they turn to PvP to spice things up.

    There really isn't anything in the lore of the zombies that would suggest that they become more aggravated or numerous because of a blood moon. And since this is aiming to be as realistic as possible a blood moon wouldn't fit. I better suggestion I feel would be to have different moon states. Full moon means more visibility, meaning zombies can see you better than on other nights. Sickle moon means less visibility so you can hide better. This could even follow the real world moon cycle from a certain country, so then people can't server hop to avoid this. People server hop anyway to avoid night time but they won't start doing this more/less just because there are different night states
  6. ^It's not about being afraid to wear the skin, it's about having all the players on equal footing. The bandit skin was horrible since it would make survivors superior to bandits. Simply having the skin meant that a bandit wouldn't be able to loot a town with other people nearby since they will just open fire, while if they saw a survivor they might not. This just puts bandits at a disadvantage based on a visual queue alone. To add more to the problem, sometimes people that kill out of self defence would get a bandit skin. This happened to me back in the day when my group was engaged by another group so we fought back. After I killed three of the other group I got a bandit skin. This was out of self defence, if we ran we would mostly likely have died since we would be out in the open so we had to fight. To add even more to the problem, it really puts players in one group and kinda insists that they stay there. What I mean by this is, in the current game as it is now players are free to do what they want. Every time they spawn a new character they can choose from the start how they are going to play. With the bandit skin it limits you. Knowing that other players will start shooting at you for no other reason than having a bandit skin really just tells the player that they might as well stay a bandit. It just says "Look, you got a bandit skin, you're gona have it for a long time. People will shoot at you, so screw trying to cooperate, just fucking kill everyone you see."
  7. ^This is why there needs to be incentives for groups to allow other players to join rather than just shooting them. The zombies will be changed, if you think they are gonna stay in this state forever then you are naive. They are too basic and will get harder over time. Like right now you can just infinitely outrun them without any trouble, they will never hit you since they stop before they attack, giving you time to get out of attack range. This is not a good zombie if it can't even attack you while you run away, making them no threat at all. Just run into a building with two entrances, wait for the zombies to group up around one entrance, exit via the other. Viola. No more zombies. It's not about buffing survivors. Buffing implies that they should have an edge over the bandits in same way, like some of the retarded suggestions like having bandits have slower movement speed after each kill. Rather, the game itself should give each player the option to be whatever he wants without limiting a playstyle because of this or that.
  8. The only solution would be to add more incentives to be a survivor without removing anything from being a bandit. Like I said a while back, blood bags are a good example. Effectively it's a full HP potion in this game but you can not use it on yourself, it has to be given to you by another players. This forces players that are low on blood (basically HP in this game) to team up with at least one other person if they want to get their blood back. Of course there is the alternative of eating a lot of food to get your blood back up, but if you are on 5k blood or less that's a lot of food that you will have to find, and simply getting a blood transfusion is easier. More items such as the blood bag is needed to improve teamwork. There can be other examples of this. Something like you need a toolbox to fix a car, having them spawn very rarely and not being able to loot them off of dead players. Now this is a terrible idea since now bandits can't fix cars on their own (taking away something from bandits), but I still think it's a good example. Now players that want to fix vehicles but don't have a toolbox will also be forced to find other players that may have a toolbox. This forces them to come out of the tree lines and approach other players to try and find out if they have a toolbox and if they are willing to help. PS. Like I said, horrible idea. Please do not think I want this in the game, it can be exploited horribly. Bandits could just claim they have a toolbox to lure someone out and then just shoot them. Just an example of how items can be used to help teams be formed. The other thing that will help with people teaming up is to make the zombies more difficult to deal with. With harder zeds players are still free to PvP as much as they like, but if it's far easier to clear out a town with more people than less than players will think twice before just gunning everyone down. Currently they are of a minimal threat since even unarmed players can get rid of them, but they are still very basic in their design and I think once they are fleshed out a bit they will become more of a challenge to deal with.
  9. The arma devs are helping. Why do you think all the beta patches that they release contain stuff specifically to help out DayZ, like being able to disable different voice channels, fixing direct comms, etc.

  11. Zombies, as they are now, are very basic, being alpha and all. They can't even attack properly, running up close to you then stopping to have the animation start, by which time you are far enough away that it doesn't damage you. Give it some time so that they can be fleshed out a bit before all this buff/nerf talk starts. At the moment they are almost no threat at all, even for newly spawned players since you can lose then in pretty much any building with two entrances, so I'm sure they will be buffed. But like I said, give it some time.

    You can also edit the config to change it. Too lazy to find how to do it but it is possible. Otherwise you can double tap num minus and it will increase your FOV, but you can't tweak it in any way.

    Never thought about this, it's actually for the most part true. The only con of the melee weapons vs the crossbow is it's range, that you are in the "line of fire", so to speak, when handling zeds. This is actually a good indication that a weapon needs a buff, a rework or just has to be removed from the mod.

    I do love my crossbow, mainly because if it's ability to silently take out a zed. No more trying to get around them, just shoot the one in your way, reclaim your bolt and move on. However, when you do get swarmed it's next to useless since you can't have enough ammo for it. Even if you fill out your entire coyote backpack and inventory slots with it, an AKM with 2 mags of ammo that can one shot zombies is more than the amount of bolts you can carry. Some sort of system where you could maybe compress them into a bundle, maybe not usable in that state due to them being "tied up" or something but will allow players to carry more ammo for the thing could be a nice addition. So that way you still have single bolts taking up single slots that can be used and a bundle of bolts, say about 5, that needs to be untied to be able to use. Just an idea

  19. I don't get why people like to item hunt... The items are there to help you survive, they are a means to an end. And no, there should never be different kinds of servers.
  20. I'm asking since your character doesn't get hungry/thirsty if you're offline any more, and I'm going away for a week. If he is going to day anyway regardless of what I do I might do some silly stuff tonight :)
  21. I'm sorry, nothing wrong with it? There is plenty wrong with it. As for OP's suggestion, I don't think players should be forced to log in or out anywhere on the map, it's a sandbox game after all so players have to be free to make choices.

    Play on servers then that you know people will speak english, like UK if you are in Europe. OP, you are either very unlucky with meeting people or there is something wrong on your end. The beta patches shouldn't screw up Direct coms since it was fixed quite a while ago and nothing has changed about it apart from that fix.

    Get a microphone, then you don't have to sit and type that you are friendly but rather just ask the guy. Side chat does more harm than good, it ruins immersion plus if you try to organise something on side chat, the bandits can also read and will meet you there to kill you and take your beans. It's gone, and for good reason.
  24. People seem to be confusing the shooting down of stupid ideas with shooting down all ideas made by new players. If you have a good suggestion that adds to the game rather than detract from it then I am sure we all can have a nice discussion on how this can or cannot be put into the mod. If you, however, make stupid suggestions that only detract form the experience, such as limiting PvP because you can't stand being shot at and having all of your loot lost, expect to be flamed. There is a difference. Take time to actually read the suggestion to see why they receive so much hate.

    This is fine to suggest, I think a lot of people would like that. But it shouldn't be in the form of punishing players that kill others like the bandit skin did. Also it shouldn't have stat benefits. What I mean by this is that some time ago someone actually suggested that to encourage players teaming up they should get a health bonus because they near other players. This is what is meant by retarded suggestions. What is fine is stuff like blood bags. Blood is effectively HP in this game, so having a "Health potion" that fully restores you but can only be received from other players is already a big incentive to find at least one player you can play with.
