Is it just me or were the characters on 1st person and 3rd person merged for everyone? Lost my 1st person char and it now seems it's the same character for both. Shuffling things or changing location carries over between 1st and 3rd persons after the latest patch.

Whoa. I don't think i can ever understand where people get this dedication to do things like this just for nothing/noone, but i wholeheartedly respect that. This is the shit that Dayz needs more of. And beans for Irish for catching this on Reddit. =)

I play mostly solo, (or start out atleast) putting emphasis firstly on survival. Sometimes i take the road less traveled, sometimes i head straight to biggest town, depends on the mood. When i have gathered sufficient gear and a decent gun, so i can survive and defend myself, i usually change my playstyle. I become curious. I'll head out looking to make contact. I'll try to meet as many players i can, help them out if i can/they need/accept help and generally interact with people, while trying to survive them. Most times i end up playing with one or more total strangers that keep living or end up dead by the time i log out for the night. Most of these people i've never heard again. Some i've met months after and some remember, some have no idea. =) I play for the people. All the different kinds of people. Edit: I do believe in karma so i try to refrain from being a douchebag at all costs. It also means that ingame i try to get rid of as many douchebags as i can. The definition of Douchebag is subject to change. One weird thing i've noticed is that when you team up with the first random dude, every random loner from that point on seems to be gland to team up aswell. From there on, even the more agressive loners adapt to the group and become friedly to the next stranger, so i find it weird when people post all these topics about only meeting assholes in game. Usually the ragtag bunch ends up having a good time. This doesn't apply to any other group thou. When you meet another group with more then one people, it's usually imminent firefight. That i find quite odd aswell. I guess it has to do with some basic pack mentality or something like that. =) All in all. Best game i ever played. (The mod + SA)

Petition against globally restricted loot
Intactus replied to coltonlong's topic in General Discussion
They said they want to emphasize teamwork and encourage communities. Isn't this a perfect way to do just that? More people = more power. That's the way it should be. That's the way it IS. Why do you think so many animals live in packs? Only things on top of the food chain can afford to go solo. Go and become that. You have 30 rounds in that magazine. It might take just six to take that heli from the clan. -

I dont really (honestly) see voicing an opinion as being "troll". I hate trolls. I also dont believe in censoring peoples input on a public discussion so yeah, i can see why i'm a nuisance here. Now, why dont we stop arguing and try to figure out how to make a better system insteand of just stomping our feet and wailing... -
Petition against globally restricted loot
Intactus replied to coltonlong's topic in General Discussion
Yes. We should keep this as constructive as possible with no derailings. Now would be a perfect time to someone come up with a better mechanic for keeping rarity and number of items in check. The instant someone does that, i'll stand behind that idea. Until then, this here is the best we have. -

I repeat. This forum is for DISCUSSION as i understand. I see people DISCUSSING this topic in a very mature and civil way while abiding to all rules of this forum. Infact, the only person here i see acting hostile against differing opinions would be you, dear OP. -
Petition against globally restricted loot
Intactus replied to coltonlong's topic in General Discussion
THAT what you just wrote sure sounds like flawed way to go about it. Even so much that i refuse to believe it will eventually end up that way. What i mean is, when you can globally restrict the items, there's no point making it spawn in just "three" places. They could (SHOULD) spread the spawn of that heli part across EVERY industrial spawn on the map. That would make hopping obsolete. Same with guns. and those helicrashes. Globally restricted helicrashes across all servers. And yes the server uptimes are going to be significantly longer but i dont think it's ever decided what spawns where. Stuff respawn/despawn as servers restart/and loot changes from one random server to another etc. After all this time, you still take Deans posts exactly word word? I don't think he really puts THAT much emphasis in how exactly he words his random tweets tha we should start a civil war over it. -

Why would ou need to know when an item is done spawning? -
Petition against globally restricted loot
Intactus replied to coltonlong's topic in General Discussion
Just my two cents: Global restriction of certain items does nothing to fuel server hopping. In a system like that, you actually have more chance to find that item looking from many as possible spawns on one single server, than one spawn on many servers. Sure some players can't enjoy every thing in the game. I see no problem in that. That's a good thing. Many people in the world can't enjoy everything in the world. I can't think of better way to make stuff rare. If everything spawned on every server, there would be servers just for a small number of people farming the best loot, same as in the mod. Then they go die on normal servers and spread that shit around. --> Shit stops being rare really fast. (AS50, NVG's in the mod for example) So all in all, i really SUPPORT the idea of restricted loot, period. -
How will you play, Hardcore or Standard
Intactus replied to WashedUpPoet's topic in General Discussion
95% of the time it's hardcore. I really don't see 3rd person mode providing a realistic, level playing field due to the floating camera so i'll save that just for fucking around and admiring the gear. -
No, you misunderstood. It's not about what's right or wrong. Sure as shit human rights violations are wrong no matter the cicumstances. What i meant was: "What did you expect? People respecting human rights in a videogame about full on zombie apocalypse in a poor eastern block country on Russian border!" Maybe i could've put my words a bit better. Just typed it out fast as non-native english speaker.

What is with the hostility, everyone? It's not about someone being so fucking ninja that they never get hit or about blaming people killed in genocides that is was their own fault. No. Jesus christ. Throwing tantrum when someone kills you in Dayz is same as throwing tantrum when someone eats your piece in a game of chess. Don't do that shit. It's childlish. It's a game. You made a mistake. It's a sandbox game yes, but it still has rules. Rules that dictate what you can and can't do within the game. There sure are more of these rules than in chess but they are there none the less and it's your objective to survive, within these rules. Everyone knows what can and can't be be done in this game. Everyone can equally assess all the risks and options there is. Everyone are on equal footing within the game. Anyone claiming otherwise is full of shit. Anyone doing any shit that that the game provides mechanics for is just playing the game as one sees fit. No need to rage about it is there? On a bit more abstract note: You think just because you EXIST you have some sort of magical right to be left alone, unharmed and be on your merry way? Like in some human rights declaration? That shit doesn't even apply for a huge percent of earth's population IN REAL LIFE, let alone in some videogame about full on zombie apocalypse in a poor eastern block country on Russian border!

Oh i'm by no means a badass or anything, it's just that i don't see that i have any right to judge any other players playstyle. I sure as shit wouldn't want anyone to tell me how to play my sandbox game. So when someone kills me for any reason in this game, i tend to think afterwards about how it really came to this, and 99% of the time i realize that i could've avoided that or that i took a necessary risk etc. I dont care if it's a player of a zombie that kills me, it's all the same hostile environment that is Dayz. Never ever did i got pissed at the dude killing me, just for myself for allowing me to become a victim like that. A few times i've died to some really cunning trap or gameplay that i did not see coming and on those occasions, i'd like to congratulate the dude personally for doing his shit well.

Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.

Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.
Intactus replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I don't think it would be an issue since loot could be cleaned client side, not affectin anyone else or the server itself for that matter. Server just upon connecting informs client the area where loot is denied for that particular client and that's it. Spawning shit client client side might bring some issues (DayzMod anyone?) but despawning, i don't think so. =) -
Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.
Intactus replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Oh, i didn't even know that. But wasn't all (nearly all) modded server private hive anyway bar for a few communities that had a few of their own servers on connected hive? I started the mod on private hive and after first hour watching Stary tents on public hive, i went back to private and never looked back. -
From my point of view, yes. You fully deserve that. (Thou boots making no sound is a shitty bug if there is such a bug.) That dude beating you to death is your penalty for not paying proper attention to your surroundings/situation. I mean c'mon... Dying like that, have you or have you not evaluated your current situation and actions properly? To me it seems you haven't is all. Edit: I know a finnish dude that loves Dayz. He's been deaf for all his life so not hearing shit is the everyday life for him. He still loves it. (Thou we had to tell him to mute his headset on teamspeak cause he used to make these... sounds when he got exited and couldn't hear himself.) =D He was like "oh shit, really?" He had no idea...
-
This is exactly what i mean. If you go say hello to someone and that someone responds with a bullet to the head, have you or have you not evaluated your current situation and action properly? To me it seems you haven't is all. Edit: How about next time you make contact, make sure that if the person isn't cooperative or appears hostile, you have the control to end the aggressor before he can harm you or even better, ensure you have a safe way out of the situation so both of you can be on your way and keep breathing. That there for me IS the challenge in dayz. Not the zombies, the hunger, the elements of any of that other shit but the PEOPLE playing it. Establishing a contact and THEN surviving the PEOPLE.

Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.
Intactus replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I wonder if something like this could ever work out: Network/server is divided into "bubbles" or areas as i understand it. So when a player logs out, he's location is stored in the hive ofc. When the player logs on a different server, he has no loot/can't pick up loot in that current "bubble" he now resides in and must travel to a next bubble for there to be loot. This could be limited client side for not putting added stress to server end. It could be a diameter aswell, say 1.5km. Big enough to really discourage hopping through major loot areas. This would encourage people to log out away from any hotspots (=loot) and seek a safe place to log out in. If player continues on the same server, everything would ofc work as usual. Any ideas? -
If you get KOS'd, work on your Dayz skills. If you get killed for fun, work on your people skills.
-
Oh man... I've put around 200h into Standalone atm. During that time i've encountered, a rough guess: 30 people. Out of those 30 people i have KOS'd two or three. Out of those 30 two have KOS'd me. So out of those 30 people, i've hand a convo with 25 people. Few of those have naturally ended in someone's death because of hostility, retards or otherwise shit going south but majority have been decent people. Many of them i've teamed up with. Some of them are now in my Steam friends. If you get KOS'd, your're doing something wrong. If you get executed, backstabbed, betrayed or some shit, you're doing something wrong. I have no idea what these people are doing wrong but you kinda need to adapt to the people you are dealing with. It's like, people going to a shithole biker bar straight up from Bieber gig and then crying when they get fucked up just for the giggles. TL;DR If you get KOS'd, work on your Dayz skills. If you get killed for fun, work on your people skills.

Gun movement is not synchronized with crosshair...
Intactus replied to Sputnik (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
This. Since there is no PERFECT way to "limit" our movement to promote more tactical and reality based gunplay, this thing we have is the best mechanic i can come up with. Have next to no experience of Arma3 but if it has this thing implemented better, then by all means i'd happily have that. Any game mechanic that makes an IRL soldier a scarier adversary than Korean kid high on red bull is the way to go. -

Le sigh. I hate that "We're playing as survivors not military personnel." How about we play as ourselves? How about not arificially limiting players to some random roles since we get zero knowledge of the story so far? /Rant
