  1. Wow so I FInally get a DayZ staff member to reply to this message and it's a super troll loaded response (dat je geen hulp je waardeloos trol!?). Just want you to know that I meant no offense or to scare anyone, just wanted to bring to light a development that has the possibility to cause harm to one's computer. I enjoy DayZ immensly and am very happy for the success that you have brought to BIS as I enjoy the delicate detail that they bring to a 'gaming' experience. However, your response, be it a rebuttle or what have you, still has not stated why this, a known, (lets call it a 'security risk) would be comon pratice for programming with no ability to disable for a popular 'game'. I also fail to reconize/understand your final words about a farewell to my so called unexistent server that I own.
  2. Ok as promised I have the 'further details'. This is a quote from a friend on TS. "the 'issue' at hand is fairly simple... this thread / warning about 'extensions' is dated 4 May 2012, at 06:14 http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Extensions yes doom and gloom 'potentials' that.. and i quote.. "The easy way out is to simply trust the people involved, and take the fall if/when you do get hacked from it. Problem is, you might not know." well the problem is this function just came 'live' in the 1.62 patch.. http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/callExtension what does it do? handle = "pipes" callExtension "openPipe(pipe)"; this allows 'it'.. any .dll file to directly access a running .exe file... such as arma. this is not a end of the world thing.. its a wide open backdoor / frontdoor skeleton key.. and it should have a shut off ability. no more.. no less -loki's </2 cents>"
  3. Indeed, however this is about code written in a military simulator that we as civillians play as a game. Like i said more details will be given later.
  4. Ok. Sorry for not fully explianing myself. Figured that the link would explain this. So, what the patch does besides all the great things described in the release notes is that essentially this update has the potential to give hackers full access to your windows pc aka: take over your pc, access your local files, etc. Dialogue has been exchanged with bis and they stated that it is nothing to worry about as only a few people have the know how to do this. However, this does not change the fact that a patch was implemented that has the potential to take over your pc and access your local files. I know the op with the link to the wiki is vague and few would fully understand the potential harm. So i posted this to help explain. I hope to get someone with even more knowledge of this update to post a better explaination. So check back later tonight.
  5. might want to sticky untill issue is resolved.
  6. Please read! Important information about the 1.62 arma 2 patch released today! If you are running the steam version turn off auto update for arma 2 OA. Http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Extensions
  7. I can no longer play arma 2 oa vanilla since the new beta patches are required in DayZ. the game CTD right before launching into the game server. I also noticed that it is now impossible to roll back to a previous version without a reinstall of the entire game. Thus, the new beta versions are now refered to as 1.62 and the standard version allowed on the vanilla servers are 1.60. Is there any workaround that I am not aware of to be able to play both versions of the game simutaniously? If not, this is a pretty bad problem for those of us who like to play both arma 2 oa vanilla and dayz. Any help would be appreciated. I can post error reports per request. - tried and verified that you cannot roll back versions beta or full 1.60 patcth - tried to verify game integrity via steam as this is a steam install of the game whic was also unsuccessfull. - tried to run through six updater and verified that launching vanilla after patching to play in dayz will not work either.

  10. Personally I feel more comfortable with the idea of the Z apocalypse in current day/future scenario. This constitutes a a looming possible failed future with overpopulation/technology abuse being the root for our short sightedness as humans. Plus, when there is such a disaster/extinction level event, the technological adept culture has more of a shock as there is no longer instant communication. It kinda like going from todays tech to ww2 era tech. however when the time period is in 1942 then what does that do in terms of a culture shock/technology step back? muskets and swords. I think I would rather enjoy a future gone horribly wrong. with modern tech the prize and human salvation the gift.
  11. so basically you want to turn this into what the stalker multiplayer should have been. nah. I think this mod/future DLC will have a its own niche in the gaming community. Though, I can predict that some other company will find this mods success intriguing and attempt to create something similar. Then, and only then, will the other part of this community get what they were looking for, a more gamier atmosphere and reduced realism/simulator feel. for now though I think ill probably play this for another 800 hours on top of the 800+ i already have for the arma 2 OA game. Methinks i definitely got my moneys worth. SteamID: kok-mastercheeze
