I do kind of like the ideal of a spawn timer after you get killed, but most will die very quickly or get shot entering a building or some stupid death. So give them the ability to spawn as a zombie near there death sight so they can have a chance at killing there killer. If you kill them you get to spawn with your gear. If your zombie is killed or 10 min pass you can spawn and start new character
The main problem with base building is you would have to be on 24/7 to guard it. If 1 can build 1 should be able to break. So the base becomes any ones if the base builder is offline. Now a small off shoot of the game could be 1 group builds a base and another tries to take it.
My suggestion would be if you want to play with friends is to group up then spawn into the world and have your group spawn within a couple of miles from each other on the beach. Kind of like being ship wrecked you would make your way to shore but not side by side. To help group up after someone dies having a simple marker on your map showing where the other group members are so you could regroup. My suggestions are based on your group using in game communication like radios and not Skype or vent.
