Item conditions: How do they work?

Basically, when weapons and tools are used their condition goes down an amount. This goes for apparel as well. When a piece of clothing or backpack is hit, the stuff inside is damaged an amount. The same effect for if a gun gets hit or your face. I like to think of the condition system as a scale with pristine as 100 and ruined as 10 > (with a few other categories in there. Each time something is hit a little bit of points are deducted from the score of the item's condition. When it comes to food and medicine I believe it has to do with the amount you heal or how effective the item is. Also with food, it's cond. will decrease the longer you have it; more so with fruit than with canned stuff. Also, apparel's cond. goes down ad you wear it and the environment effects it as well. It'd be nice to see all the seasons in there with the ability for server owners to choose which are in their server, how frequently the seasons change, etc. This would really get weather to affect(wrong effect/affect?) gameplay like Rocket wanted.

Steam works just fine for downloading and playing Arma 2 DayZ mod. I do not see why you dislike it. -
Basically, most games don't include ANY kind of murderable children is because it is really bad. Killing children is bad.

Agreed you should have a buddy remove the bullet with a chance of you getting infected from missed used tools/ dirty tools. And the blood should attract zombies from the smell so you need to wash your clothes and that too after. Zombies are animals and their seances in our DNA should increase to what an animal does it just looks for food to survive no emotions, Also you should be able to remove limbs to so you don't die from gangrene. And it should take time to heal and blood shouldn't be a 1min trick this is a hardcore survival and I hope it is going to stay like that and not change You should also have to disinfect the tools before use, or at least should disinfect. Or you could do the operation naked so you don't get blood on clothing. I don't think integrating dismemberment of yourself or other players is worth it unless it is for cinematic reasons. Amputation is worthless in the zombie-apocalypse, no one's gonna make you a splint or fake body part. Just sayin'. -

a: not always. Many bacteria and viruses can live in extreme situations. b: the major cause of death in the American Civil War was infection. Any kind of open wound is liable to become infected by environmental contagions, especially bullet wounds. Getting shot is not a walk in the park that people seem to think it is thanks to Hollywood. Also infections, illnesses and diseases should be a bigger deal. In the great war (first world war/WW1) I believe that almost three times as many people died from influenza than from the war itself. Maybe previously thought extinct illnesses such as influenza and typhoid could make comebacks during this Z day experience. Maybe a new illness could emerge from this zombie war. -
Also maybe all the soldiers died before they shot many bullets because they were trying to avoid destroying their vehicle by swerving yet, hitting a tree. But also sometimes the patrol vehicles should be in the middle of the road as an obstruction to normal driving. Also if they were wasting ammo fighting the zeds and if what another poster (I forget who) says that patrols only bring one or two mags the ammo on these dead patrols should be low, very low; not even a full magazine.

I think all these ideas are gret but they'll need to have pretty simple countermeasures e.g. Any liquid lessening and after several doses, removing the effects of pepper spray. OP, you make great arguments and are making sensible contributions. +1

I said in an earlier post and am happy to repeat it. I was thinking there could be a bus kinda thing (not physically or literally), by that I mean a thing for the people and their entities to stay in for a while whilst waiting for the transfer. -

This is an excellant way to tackle the issue. Though, I have a few suggestion to add to that: • depending on the amount of people who hit the portal at the same time (or within a certain amount of time) they'll be transported to a corresponding server which they can all connect to in a sort of "bus" that holds them all until they move between servers/maps, once they've reached the destination they'll be strewn about the portal entrence so people aren't all clustered for an explosion. Or an invincibility could be activated fir 10 seconds after cell transportation. To make all this easier there could be one server with all their portals leading to maps/cells hosted by the same one you originally joined to not allow someone getting chased to go into a portal to a diffrent server to escape their pursuers. So basically there wouldn't be a choice for the closest and best server for you as the server you originally joined would be the best one for you and your location to eliminate people abusing portals as escape routes. • Or portals would just take a designated amount of time (90 seconds, maximum cell download time) all players traveling through a trans-cell portal would be forced to wait 90 seconds before being realeased into the next cell with a few seconds of invincibility to eliminate portal campers destroying anyone who passes through immediatly after they enter the cell. P.S. @OP (Original Poster, SalamanderAnder) maybe you should make a post only for this whole cell transportation issue that the decs will hopefull look at? And incourage people to make their own large idea topics so they are more visable and can have their own seperate discussions P.P.S. Just so evenyone knows it's not good to qupte entire original post when they are as extencive and explicit as this one to make a small reply. -

I think all this is completely possible but these sure will be very far ahead goals. The dev team already has a to-do list the size of an elephant and many of these suggestions are very MMORPG-ish which is not the direction Rocket wants. Sure, he did say numerous times that he did want many more RPG and MMO elements in game but this stuff requires very serious planning and a much larger workforce, more money and more of a fan base. Which frankly, I don't think a so called indie developer as small as BI can achieve. Just putting it out there. If this whooe cells and major islands and going inbetween them happens (ehich is an amazing idea) the DayZ "flesh" as someone said a group of cells would be similar in size to Azeroth (WoW world), still very big size diffrences and such but DayZ'd have no fast travel. It would be amazing to be able to travel between these diffrent islands which would definantly sugest adding large frigates and ocean going ships to the game (as SalamanderAnder has suggested before) which would be awesome. But all these additions would require a lot more diversity in the game. I'm talking weapon diversity, vechical diversity, player diversity, survival diversity, bio-diversity and even possibly the dreaded zombie diversity. But it is possible that there could evntually be a map the size of Azeroth in square kilo meters (with a little help from other developers probably and maybe in a sequel with a better engine) with as many diffrent THINGS as WoW (diversity wise). Note: I really don't want DayZ to become World of Zombiecraft but a lot of the fundementals of WoW are pretty good. -
The thing is, 3rd person won't EXIST in teh standalone :|Luckily the are making huge improvemnts to the HUD, POV and periphrials.

^ Thank you and I completely agree. And SlamanderAnder, I was not demanding anything, please do not put words in my mouth, I simply wanted some information. On a different note, Rocket should just give a release date instead of teasing us with these false-dates. I know I am personally saving about a quarter of my money just to buy the game!

I hink the stabbing or sliting part should be a seperate part to after you headlock them or whatever. This would allow you to hold the knife right up to them and deliver ultimatums and if they say no you cut them up. This would work great with the new hostage mechanic.
