  1. Question, does your OA beta work properly - Try launching the "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" shortcut in your Bohemia Interactve folder to see if you get a ass haul of errors.

    I wouldn't say that it is OP, but making them have a chance of breaking definatly wratchets up the fear factor!! I had a crossbow with one bolt (arrow? whatever...) and had entered a single entrance/single story barn with two zeds in it. I skewered the closest zed, but couldn't retrieve the broken bolt! So I had to drop my crossbow and scramble out my hatchet to kill the zed that was ever so slowly bearing down on me (BTW, it is really great that we dont have to reload hatchets anymore!!). I found a new bolt a little later and suddenly the decision to fire that crossbow, or not, had gained a weight that ten minutes ago simply hadn't been there (for me). So as for preventing OP, maybe not. But for being more authentic and injecting a little more uncertanty into the game, I think the devs are making the mod a hell of a lot better.

  4. I agree, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be logical causality which can influence how a player may play, but does not force them into a role because it is the most advantageous. For me one good solution would be to make players take into account the big picture - give everyones actions meaning, both for themselves and those around them. If everyones actions had knock on effects on the world around them, and in tern the other players in the server, then maybe you could get players putting more thought into their actions as well as careing more about the actions of those around them.
  5. Plastic wrap/tarp (the industrial stuff): - Can be used as a makeshift poncho - Can be used for simple storage. Wrap up items, then buried them. - Makeshift "window" on vehcles. Plastic bags/ bin bags - Can have simular uses as the "industrial" plastic, but less effective. - Can be used like a backpack
  6. Lol :). As for the the OP. I think if these "missions/quests" are kept player driven then yes, it could be very fun. What if the safes themselves could be moved about, but with great difficulty. This could be taken to your camp/base so you can store valuables. If there were different types/levels of secure "chests" then you could end up with really interesting camps cobbled together from a large variety of items - and if they were genuinly hard to crack open, it may actually be possible to setup some type of store/trading post! Great idea with a lot of potential :thumbsup:

    I agree, loosing zombies has become very easy - I got aggroed and lost 4-5 zeds runing across a open field :(. I know its a work in progress, and (fingers crossed) eventually there will be some scary and playable zeds (not saying that 1.7.5.1 zeds weren't playable, I quite liked them). They need to be more persistant . Also, anyone having trouble recovering bolts/arrows? I fired 5 and was unable to retrieve any of them - they were all visible but I couldn't get the "retrieve" option to show, even the one that was stuck in a wall. It was on a private hive so I don't know if that is a issue.

    Just a thought, if it is now possible to have individual bolts that can form a quiver - is it also possible to introduce "loose" ammo (of varying types) that can be combined into magazines/clips? PS: Really like the new items and icons. Love the new bacon and the mystery cans are great! Just wondering about the toilet paper and razor? Will we be growing beards soon!!!

Throwing up is sooooo much cooler than shitting... :P From what I gather from TV shows like Generation Kill deciding when and where to have a dump is actually something thats is taken quite seriously by soldiers. Shit and shitting features alot (as well as combat-jacks...). But for the most part I think people think of scenes like this when they think of shit being a feature:
  10. I would really like some simple physics on smaller props inside building, such as chairs and tables. There are these blue barrels that you can knock about the place in ArmA (haven't really taken notice if they are in dayz) so it is already possible. I don't have a problem with the crawlers or hoppers, it would be great for atmosphere to have zombies with missing legs or even half their torso dragging themselves around the place!

I did note it was first of many mocap sessions, just from a total noobish (meaning I really have no insight into this) perspective I'd think that hiring some actors would actually make the proccess faster, even if the "quality" of the end animations is not necessarily determined by the mocap preformance. Plus it would look good on a promo! Anyway, thanks for the update - cant wait! Also, will zombies be able to climb over fences and such? EDIT: Ragdoll death confirmed!?

He (Dean) means that the "alpha" (or whatever it will be called) will be released soon (when its ready), and then we should expect it to take about a year from that alpha release for DayZ to be completed to a level where they will "sit back and be happy with it." Correct me if Im wrong :P. As for the blog, it was very entertaining and great to meet some of the folks who are working on dayZ. As fun as doing mocap looks IMO you should seriously consider hiring some professional actors for a day or two :).

    I always assumed they were packs left when players found better ones and replace it. Its the same when you find civilian clothing laying about.

    Error when starting DAYZ

    I also get a variety of errors when I play dayZ, as well as when I try to play the beta version of Arma2 OA. OA beta is actually unplayable. I have reinstalled it many times but when I install the latest beta patch it all goes wrong... With dayZ I get this error on startup (during the tickbox's): I have full retail copies of ArmA 2, OA, and reinforcements, so I dont know what it wants with "A2free". Then I get this error immediatly after load: I click continue to get to the lobby. As far as I can tell it doesn't effect dayZ - the way the ArmA 2 OA beta is completely broken is more annoying... So does the error you get actually stop you from playing??

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

    Since the update I have been coming to grips with the crossbow and all its little inconveniences. The most anoying aspect for me has to be the iron sights - I don't know if bolts take some strange trajectory like bow/arrows, which (from my very limited experience) you have to aim off center from your target, please correct me if Im wrong... because otherwise I don't understand why it hasn't been fixed (aside from you working two jobs and have three kids :P ). Also a larger firing range would be nice. As for quivers, It would be cool, but then bolts should be a hell of a lot rarer. If I go on a "bolt hunt" through a city I can easily come away with eight or more. This might not sound like much, but the fact they are reusable makes up for this. If the aiming were fixed, qivers made and the range increased, I think that even having two bolts would make you a rich man! (And yes bolt recovery can be a problem, personally when I loose a bolt I count this down to attrition. Bolts wont last forever. Thankfully this dosn't happen to me too often :) ) EDIT: And I have experienced some preformance issues in populated areas of the map. Nothing like what you mention, but lower FPS than I experienced pre-patch. Though, a day later and I was in the same area, with around the same no. of people playing and it was running a dream...sorry I know thats not of much use :( .

    *about stealthing around zombies Thanks to this update I have found out the usefulness of empty whisky bottles!! For example, your trying to exit a house but there is a zed walking towards you (in the near distance), if your unlucky he will spot you. Throw the bottle past the zed, he turns around and you make your escape - I litterally never used a empty whisky bottle up to this point!
