I admit to feeling some what underwhelmed by the footage (I've had apprehensions about the new zombie animation since the mo-cap devblog) but all this angst and animostiy seems a bit preemptive. Personally I think that managing expectations is what Rocket and team may be trying to do. (And weeding out the ;) ) -

Lol, that was f***ing beautiful. I don't know which was my favourite bit - the frantic flailing on the ground or the righteous head shot when you were pickaxe handling (thats the right word right...) that poor bandit. Oh, but wait, maybe its when you attached the god damn pickaxe head to the pickaxe handle. Great stuff! Other utilties of a pickaxe - dual-wielding them you can scale rocky out crops and/or buildings :lol: . BTW I think my PM should be working now. -

Hi all, So I still haven't set up a test server for myself - though I have watched the tutes for DayZCC and it really does look quite easy. On a brighter note I have made two new thermos's - they're in game but I can't really test if have scripted them in properly. So what Im gonna do is make the lods for the theroms's and drink bottles then upload them with the books for anyone to play with. -

Wow, you've been busy Horde! Great work. Yeah, I don't have a DayZ server installed either, I think we'll have to bite the bullet and install it :( . I had tried once before, got to a point while installing it and couldn't get any further... I have had a look around though and from what I read DayZ Server Control Centre ( http://www.dayzcc.tk/ ) might be a more user friendly way to install a server. Librivox.org might be a usefull resource - all the books there are in the public domain, they're all audio books though - Im pretty sure Smash_AU is a stenographer :P . Seriously, this is awsome! Way beyond my scripting/coding skills thats for sure. I will have a look but can't promise anything - plus I need to set up a server. I will be MIA over the the next 2-3 days as Im moving to a new place over the weekend, but just to prove I haven't been slacking heres a couple picks of a the plastic and aluminium drink bottles: This is another example of needing a server to properly test new content. -

Lol, i feel silly... I am god of canned muffin's!!! ...if only in the editor... Im not sure, as far as I can tell the canned food's textures are just the one resolution, no matter the LOD. Though it makes sense to LOD the textures Im not sure if its required. @ Horde, thanks for that info. I will definatly have a go at scripting a working book - Im not huge on scripting but its great fun...when it works. -

Sounds really good (and its making me hungry :P). Personally I like the idea of finding a sac of potatos, or a box of half rotten cabage leaves/apples/carrots\misc... My own update: I've reworded the text of the books in to give a sense of history/mythology and prehaps some sense of loss. This also gave me what I think is a great idea - individual photographs. All you would need is 5-10 generic models but then in the discription you could have hundreds (stay with me :) ) of individual discriptions. eg: "Sunset at the beach. In the foreground is a couple smiling. On the horizen is the barly disernable siloute of a cargo ship." "A man lays on a bed. He looks orange from the light filtered through a scarf thrown over the bed lamp. His eyes are closed as if asleep, but he smiles." etc.For me this would add to immersion and remind the players that chernaros was not always a wasteland. What do you think? Also I have made two LOD's for the books: LOD0 - LOD1 - LOD2 So I think these books are nearly reaching completion, anything else I should consider doing before submitting these? ----- I've started some work on some alternative water bottles: two varieties of drink bottles (plastic and aluminium) and two types of thermos's. -

There is information about the new animation rig in this . Rocket mentions how this new rig will make the way weapons are held/viewed in first person look better, because essentially there will be two seperate skeletons for third and first person.Personally I don't understand how this will work in relationship with your body (will you still be able to see you're body when rotating your head, something that I find very immersive) - it sounds like this new rig will look and feel more generic. I am all for more fluid animations, but I am not in favour of anything that makes this game feel more like a generic shooter. I realise this is mostly speculation and I really have to wait and see what this new animation rig is like, but I am interested in what others think/feel on the subject. -

Yeah, cgtextures is the shizzle (you'll probably see the textures for these books somewhere in there), I was going to mention it I swear! So I resized the book a bit and added the next one! What do you think of the descriptions? I've checked and it should be "Chernarussian" not "chernorussion", asside from that I thought maybe the next book could be a biography on Duke Kozlov who according to the wiki is responsible for all the castles around Chernarus. I actually really like the idea of having books in a range of languages in the SA, especially technical ones that might prove useful in repairing cars or flying helicopters. Imagine finding a book and then needing someone else to interpret it. Also, when I first put in the book it was tiny and I happened to be watching Black Books, it looked exacly like the "little book of calm"! lol. EDIT: -

Hey guys having a bit of trouble ( I posted this in sausage kings tute as well, but thought I might get a faster response here): EDIT: ok figure out what to do with the LOD's. Texture is still not working! This is the only part I'm not sure about (from Sausage Kings tute), could it be because I haven't done this that I get this error message in game: It's clear that the actual texture has been packed in the .pbo, I have tired applying existing textures (the bacon one) and I get the same error (saying it cant find the bacon texture). There is obviously some problem with how I have associate the texture with my model but I can't figure it out! The textures show up in bulldozer though :( . Any help will be appreciated. -

Reality be damned! A quick update. I got my first book into oxygen with the textures on it - well I can view the textures in bulldozer (though they are very blury)... I stole the rvmat from the toilet paper and pluged in my normal and specular maps into where I think they should go - so the next step is getting them in game. I don't think i'll take the "create you're own server" route, I've tried that before and it was very frustrating - so I'll probably try Sasauge Kings approach. Anyway, that does me for today. -

Hey guys, great stuff - you've given me a creative itch :) . It also reminded me of some stuff I made for a project ages ago, would you be interested in using any of these? (I did see you were after some books.) I have some other half done assets including: - Spray bottle - Record player (making up bands for records could be fun!) - Speakers - Ladder But I thought I'd have a go at the juice containers (cardboard/plastic?) and the pickle jars, if AlphaX hasn't already started on them. BTW I am using 3dsMax, will this be a problem? Also you were mentioning normal maps, to my understanding this is the same as a bump map?? EDIT: Oh, and I made this energy drink a while ago: -

lol, I thought you were making a silly joke (thought it was sun-screen maybe) - but it turns out it is flour :P Rocket talks about the new animation rig alot, and in some he mentions how this new rig will make the way weapons are held/viewed in first person look better, because essentially there will be two seperate skeletons for third and first person. As is, in DayZ/Arma, the FPV is basicly (layman alert) a camera directly attached to the head of the skeleton. What you see of yourself is directly representative of what others see when they look at you, or what you see of yourself in 3rd person.I guess my question is if there are two different rigs/skeletons for the two different views how does this reconcile with the way we currently experience first person in dayZ - eg. the way you can move you're head around independantly from your body? (EDIT: and the way you can view you're body from FPV) -
It was more of a micro update IMO, but yes I will have some even if there isn't cocaine in it... FYI: Rocket is Mrs. Doyle!!! PS: Appreciate the update.

I also have a i7 920, I have read they are quite good to overclock but never having done this before it is a bit intimidating. If anyone has overclocked their i7, especially for the specific purpose of improving dayz preformance, some feed back on how it effected your rigs preformance would be appreciated :) .
