    Fight-or-flight Mode

I think the suggestion is very reasonable. Adrenalin being dumped into the body is a physical reaction that effects how a persons body operates. Yes I get a mild rush when I encounter a hostile player but I highly doubt it compares to what it is like being shot. Because it is a clearly defined physical reaction (unlike feelings of guilt or morals) I have no problem with this being simulated by the game - experience trauma > adrenilin > response. Nothing wrong with that. When it comes to how to get people to act in a "moral" way, or actually feel bad about their actions in a computer game, I don't think you expect it. Especially if you give them guns, a FPV, and no consequences - and then tell them to compete for resources :) . Because I think its impossible to put human values on a virtual character I think you have to find a way to associate each players lives, and their continued living, with something that everyone values in game. Things of value to everyone: - loot - server continuity over time So you could associate players lives with: - loot > average life expectancy > loot distribution - Server >average life expectancy > server reset So if you can associate everyone's lives with these elements, in a sensible and meaningful way, you could contrive a way to make players consider the consequences of murder (or simply letting a player kill themselves, or be eaten by zombies), over time, and in a larger context than themselves and the immediate cost/benefits... and this is where you can achieve some vague "morality" which has a meaningful in-game aspect. I think this is the best you can hope in regards to making people feel more complex emotions towards other player. This goes against the dayz motto "this is your story" and makes it "this is everyone's story", I guess this is a needed mental shift if you want to imbue some kind of empathy. It'll all get gamed in the end anyway...

Rain will be the new night?

Players will death match regardless, they will complain, then game this system in record time and continue without a second glance.

Rain will be the new night?

Adapt mother f*&^%'s! Have you tried it yet? It really isn't that hard to adapt to - In-fact it is fun (IMO)! Yes, a big part of DayZ does consist of roaming great distances, so it is logical (once again IMO) to make this unavoidably key aspect of the game interactive and interesting! This is why weather effecting the player is an excellent addition to the game - it will give a pause for thought and give you reason to plan your expeditions, as well as giving items other than guns much more value. I know for some people this is simply a barrier between them and shooting people - and to some degree they are right, but I think it is more about making the environment an antagonist, one which can never be defeated only adapted to... this is great IMO.

    #420 FMH Seattle

I believe on stable 0.48, only servers with "persistence: on" in their description have persistence enabled - when stable hits 0.49 persistence will be default on all servers. All experimental servers are 0.49.
  6. Sounds like you had a zombie survival experience in dayZ... I can understand why you were shocked and upset :P
  7. Like I said earlier today in a identical thread - to me the menu screen seemed more suited to a controller rather than a keyboard and mouse. While It was nice to see what some of these features might look like sometime in the future, and Im sure we will see most of these things implemented, it is also clear that the majority of these improvements are cosmetic. Yes, they are something that can be easily appreciated by even the most uniformed consumers, but they are simply the decoration on a highly complex cake. Im not dismissing the video out of hand, it is a nice peek into a possible future - but it shouldn't be used as a club to beat up on the hard working devs simply because what they are producing (ATM) isn't something that can be so aesthetically appreciated..The cake is still being baked....

    Vehicular Travel.

But for testing things, like a player/driver, variable parts, physics, etc, bikes may be a good first option - In essence aren't all other vehicles simply deviations of these basic components (even helicopters)? Some will have more player "slots", more required parts, etc, but for the most part I think you will find that they will simply be a "up-scaled" set of basic features which you will find in bikes. Getting a simple vehicle like the bike right will make it easier to up-scale to other more interesting types...

The most inspirational DayZ GamePlay Concept [VIDEO]

Personally didn't like the menu concept - considering all the wailing about DayZ on PS4 they certainly made it represent something I would expect from a console port :( . As for the other things - It was nice to see what these features might look like in the future, luckily (from what I can discern) pretty much all the things they show in the video are on the devs to do list...

Status Report - Week of 25 August 14

I defer to Ebrim :) Edit: Quick question, when both experimental and stable branches are on the same version, is it safe to play on a stable server with an experimental build (and vice versa)?

Status Report - Week of 25 August 14

There is so much going on! But I think this part should be highlighted for those that might have skimmed it - "0.49 represents a large amount of work that will not be immediately visible on the user side" - Just to keep those expectations in check :) .

Gamma changing based on what you look at

I have experienced this issue mostly when a server is in early morning/evening - it seems that the sky and land are too sharply contrast (the land too dark, the sky too bright), so that the HDR is gets confused (I think...). It might be worth changing your cloud setting. Set it to High or Very High, or just switch it to something other than what you currently have. I've had this fix my issues with over active HDR, but haven't properly tested it.

    So hows the alpha progressing?

I'd say that most of the buildings are enterable, the ones you cant are very few and far between - mostly large industrial buildings. In answer to the question of what the dev team are focused on - I understand they are working on multiple areas of the game simultaneously. These different teams will progress at different rates which can make it appear that some things are getting more attention than others, which isn't the case. If you want to gain a better understanding of what the team is up to I think you should check out the last two "status reports" here on the forums - http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/134-development-blogs-status-reports/

    DayZ PS4 Discussion

Very true! BI is investing in is a new engine, something that will provide opportunities for them well into the future - why would they want to jeopardize this? They have a strong community in the PC world, why would they want to jeopardize this? To me it's evident they wouldn't (Not to say they couldn't stuff things up with the best intentions...) and personally I can clearly see that original vision of Dayz slowly emerging from the Alpha. DON'T PANIC!

well... the trucks spawn loot in their vicinity... :P. But it really felt I was scavenging because there was literally nothing to be found at the airfield, but by scrounging around the trucks I found two gorka jackets other people had over looked! With the new persistence and containers I think it is possible to give "trash" inventory slots that could be filled - also if they can make trees and the forest floor "scavangable" I don't see why trash piles or bins couldn't do the same thing... on a side note, I want to be able make rain ponchos out of trash bags...
