So many players out for blood :( Can't we be friends? lol (Video)

Quick tip, the items are buged in some buildings - simply move them to the right of your inventory and they will "move" aka disappear... the item will have moved else where in the building (or outside) and then you can pick it up without a problem. -
Well for me the point is that the new dayZ engine is a WIP. While I think that looks and performance are important, I don't think they are a focus at this stage in development. Give them time and we will see what can be achived.

here is some nice stuff from VBS3 (the platform that bohemia make for military use) most note worthy for me is running rivers, also the snow simulation looks very cool. I don't know how much of the tec. is shared between this and arma/dayz but I would love to see some of the features in these videos come across to Dayz.

It enables things like directx11, it will allow better lighting and nicer looking UI but will not fundamentally change the look of the game (so no, it will not suddenly look like Far Cry 3...). I've heard (on the ether) that the renderer is similar to the one used in Take on Mars (another Bohemia title FYI) so if you want to have some idea of what the it is capable of you can check that out. All I know for sure is that it will let the engine utilize more of the features that modern hardware/software has to offer, so it is going to be an improvement regardless of the specifics.

Man, great video - one of the best I've seen in recent times. Great composition and story telling - loved it! A decent into madness :P.

What are the steaks called that you get from skinning people? Mystery meat? -
I had my xbox fight stick plugged in while playing dayz and the menus looked like this:

I think there was talk of a "zombie life cycle". The idea being that infected in different stages of the disease would behave differently.

Yes Dayz has made them a lot of money - Its popularity is something that, I believe, took BI by surprise and made them re-think their plans for DayZ, they were just going to make a polished version of the mod but are now being much more ambitions. My point is all that money we payed them in itself is the reason development is taking longer. They want to give you your moneys worth but this will take time!

0.50 stable was going to be release last week but a serious bug was found in testing (a crash to desktop I believe) so it was postponed. Sooo.. what they are going for and what circumstance dictates are two entirely different things. Also, Its not a race - I'm sure the developers care a lot more about the integrity of their game (and by extension, themselves) than beating others to some arbitrary "release".

Yeah, west is the new north :P

I know in unreal editor you can simply "erase" terrain polygons (they are still there, but no longer have clipping, textures etc). Does this relate in anyway to how things are done in arma? Probably not...

Im quite interested in how this new loot economy is going to play out, especially because it is exactly the type of complex system I needed for a mod I had in mind. Basically i want to do this: - keep track of the average life span of players over, say, 24 hrs. - the next 24 hrs, if the average life span goes up i want to effect the loot in accordance with the "growing population" by making some loot rarer (essential things like food) while others more common (better weapons etc). And vise versa. - I would also like to link the average life expectancy with when a server is wiped/reset (too many dead survivors = extinction, live longer more time on the clock) This is just a basic run down of what I'd like to do - so what i really want to know is, is this the type of thing that modders will be able to do when they get to go crazy with DayZ?
-
I think this simply isn't in line with what the devs envision for vanilla dayz. From what I've read and seen in interviews the focus is on letting players create their own unique "events" and interactions organically within the game, with very little scripted/npc driven interaction (I think Dean isn't even a fan of random car/heli spawns). However as this kind of thing is obviously something you want, I think that once modding is introduced there is a high chance you will come across something to your liking (or if you're really keen, you can make it yourself :) ) .

Was the music supposed to distract from the fact that this was a video of two guys literally running in circles...

Sorry, but I don't think your comparison photos... compare. They are of completely different environments/subjects. Mars looks very nice as does the Arma3 landscape, the differences in detail or fidelity has nothing to do with the renderer... that is the art assets. Besides, you won't be getting Take on Mars or Arma3 renderer - you will be getting DayZ, with a new renderer which will give the team a bunch of new fancy tools to play with so they can make the already detailed world of DayZ look even better and hopefully run better as well.

wow, that is an old-school bug right there! I Haven't seen something like that since waaay back in the mod... I can't recall exactly what caused it - it might have been certain items?
-
or... no its not :( .
-
Firstly define "low FPS", its likely what you call low most people here would look on with envy :P . If you are getting above 30FPS in towns (especially the new ones up north) I would personally kill a small mammal for that :) . Optimization hasn't really had a look in yet, expect your performance to improve as we move towards 1.0.

Yes this is an issue, but don't be surprised if it isn't a priority on the devs "to do" list. Posts like this can't hurt letting them know there is an issue, but its probably more helpful to make a bug report (or upvote an existing one) - just don't hold your breath for a quick fix :) .

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
hoik replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I only very rarely have zombies actually pop through walls - not sure if this is a server load thing (I've mostly been playing my local exp. 1st person serever, so most the time I have low ping and 10-15 players) or latency issue, but for me the zeds have progressed nicely since their inception. Could be a matter of perspective as well :) . -
Double taping "alt" toggles free look, seems this is likely what happened here.

^ wow, nice! I'm just feeling a little pleased with my setup ATM - I call it the sneaky sawed-off approach (check my hotbar, I got a sawed-off shotgun in the vest too - Its already saved my bacon once ;) ).
