Majority of playerbase are kids?
foggierglint replied to HumanBeing25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Um, hate to break it to you, but if they say that they are 13-14, they're actually 11-12. -
That reminds me, this happened yesterday as well. I went to place my tent, it told me to use q and e to move it, but no tent ever appeared. Didn't end up back in inventory, or laying on the ground anywhere, just gone. >:(

More feedback from my last days frustrating failure. With the new spawn rate of loot and zombies, there really needs to be a tweak on how time consuming it is to pick stuff up. For example- There should be a way to pick up a backpack and take it without dropping your current one first. Maybe it can be handled along the lines of how you find clothes and they show in your inventory till you swap and put them on? Trying to empty my current 12 slot pack in to a 16 slot laying on the ground, then picking it up in an area with live zombies is impossible, and you should be able to just grab the new one and go. When there is a group of stuff on the ground, why does the scroll wheel always default to the pick up empty can first? Can't it priority which item in the group it shows to pick up based on spawn rate or something? That or a simple take all would be better. Going a little further out there, how about a spawn of something like a milk crate you can carry? Give it like an inventory capability of 20 slots, and when you have it in your hands, all you have to do is run over a loot pile, and you pick everything(pr a random percentage) laying there up. When carrying it, it takes up your weapon slot, so you have to drop it to use any weapon, but it would be possible to hang it off your backpack when empty. It would make looting a building, then running back to your vehicle and going through your stuff more realistic.Lord knows in a situation like this, I would be more apt to run and grab everything and sort it out once away from the threat.

Last time I played, I looted a store, and found a backpack one size bigger. In the attempt to unload my current bag, and then pick up the new one, I managed to not get done in time and get hit by a zombie. I finally did kill him even though melee is crap at that close of range, got my pack, bandaged, morphined, and ran back to my truck. My blood was at 2500, so I drove out of town, and once clear, went to jump in the back seat to eat. Instead, I ended up outside the truck, in an unconscious like mode, but no time clock, and still able to access my gear. Eventually, the zombies caught up to me and finished me off. Any reasonable explanation to what happened?

 I guess we can consider 1.8 a great success then. Making people have to change play style, and find new places to work are part of it, I would think. If the devs intentionally put zombies spawning in typical sniper spots, I commend them.

Definately helps to eat slower. I ended up on a server with blood displayed as a number, and it's easy to see how eating a bunch of food does no good if you don't wait and eat one thing at a time. Found a pig and was able to kill it and cook it up which works much better than cans. I'm starting to adapt to the changes in 1.8 and figuring out the new ways to play to survive. Zombie numbers and hit damage definately slows down the run and grab play style I was using. I also like the ability to carry two primaries even if it is a glitch. It makes sense to be able to carry one on your back and one in hand if that's what you feel suits your play style the best. I never carried a pistol for ages as I'd rather be loaded with bandages(and now wipes) over a second weapon. But with the ungodly spawn rate of bandages and wipes, I've been carrying a pistol with a couple mags as the space is available. My preferred loadout is still the M4CCO and hatchet over any other combo. Even if I still suck at using the hatchet. :o

The more I play, the more this is bothering me as well. I'm always solo, and on a low pop. server, so interactions with others has been nil. I can run around scavanging food, finding and eating tons of it, yet I can never seem to gain any blood. It seems one light hit from a zombie takes away more blood than I can gain in a half hour of running around eating everything I can find. I've yet to find all the needed components to go back to my hunting ways to see if killing a cow and eating it will do the trick, but that's my most important goal to find out right now.

My quick 2 cents.... Graphics for blood, food, drink are silly. Don't blend in with game. Old ones much better. Need a big old CLOSE button when in gear screen. Trying to go up to the corner to x out when I hear a zombie sucks (I know I could hit ESC, but that is another unneeded motion). Zombie respawn time at crash sites is too fast. With the increased number, I can't kill them all without finding cover, so my other tactic of getting them to chase me down hill, then loop around some trees, andrun straight back up used to give me time to grab stuff. now, a whole new batch respawns before I can even get back there. I seem to be addicted to pain killers. Nearly every time I get hit by a zombie I need one. I would think that would have a time limit and go away on its own. I usually cheat and go to third person view while outrunning the threat, but no matter how long I wait, I end up taking one just to get rid of the shakes so I can go back to my preferred first person view. I finally found a hatchet and gun last night, the quick swap is a god send. Thanks for that.

DayZ Community afraid of the Dark?
foggierglint replied to neosky5k's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's what i did at first. Then realized that I then was stuck playing in the dark on weekend mornings. I play on average 10 hours a week. It's not too much to expect to be able to play those 10 hours during day time in game. I actually don't mind playing at night when I have a huge chunk of time I can dedicate to it. if I could choose when it's going to be night in game, I'd play it every now and then, but as it is, it's a better game for me as a 24/7 daytime game. Ideally, there'd be caves, sewers, or an under ground military complex to give a night time type experience at any time. -

No chance. If I sat at home and did nothing but play 24/7, I'd be fine with the cycle. As having a real life and only playing for a few hours a day at most, typically after the rest of the family is in bed, that would leave me playing at night 90% of the time. That's why I play 24/7 daytime servers. I don't have a set schedule for when I can play, and if I can jump on the game for a quick bit, I don't want to spend it playing in the dark. In my mind, it's night time the whole time I'm logged off. -
I'll fully back this up. In my initial build, I was having bsod issues, and ended up finding I had a bad stick of ram. Once I replaced the ram, if I left it running a test program, it would go over temp and shut down in ten minutes. Checked temps and they were at the max. Put in a hyper 212 evo,, and temps now max out under 70c. Even though my second build for my kid usera step down CPU, I changed it out with the same cooler just to make sure heat is never an issue as it's too cheap of an upgrade to ignore. This is the only thing I've yet to work out on mine. I also get random drops in fps, from a typical 60 with momentary drops down to 25 or so once every couple minutes. I'm fairly certain it's ram related as I did not have this problem before I upgraded my ram, but it's certainly better than a bsod like I was getting.

Will not click. Thanks guys! -
And I managed to do it putting on a ghillie suit.I learned my lesson. Always carry morphine, painkillers, and anti's.

Yes, I have played on one. I justify it as when i first played this about a month ago, it was my first computer game in about 25 years (Oregon trail anyone? Lol). I did not even know any of the basic controls, and was killed twice as I spawned in before I could even figure out how to check my inventory. My kid got me in to this game as his old computer couldn't handle it, so he took over mine. After watching him play for a while, I decided to give it a go. I ended up having to buy a new computer so we could play side by side. He recommend going to a non PVP server till I had the basics down. Ive moved on since then, and while I still avoid the high population, bandit heavy servers, I do think the non PvP servers would be boring.

No, don't just deal with it. Those seem like good enough specs to be getting much better fps than that. Once I found the advanced video settings tab in game, I screwed with those on mine for a week and kept getting slower and slower rates. I finally just googled best settings for fps on dayz and found a couple videos and forum posts in agreement on what they should be and went with those. The only one I remember off the top of my head(I think) was dropping object detail as low as possible. It does take away some of the realistic look, but hugely improved fps and certainly helped with finding stuff on the ground around helicopter crashes.

Well... here it is... My new PC
foggierglint replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in Technology/Programming
Money not a real issue, but don't want to be spending it just to be spending either.... Two more questions- in my troubleshooting, I got in to the manual ram speed settings, and it lists 1333, 1600, and 1866 as options, but doesn't show the 2133. Does that mean it would be counter productive to go any higher than a 1866 mhz ram? Any reason to spend the extra for 16gb of ram over just going with 8gb? -
Well... here it is... My new PC
foggierglint replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in Technology/Programming
Quick ram question since that is where the thread is currently at. My computer is a relatively new build, about four months old, amd fx 7850 eight core, and a biostar TA970 mother board. It's got a single 8gb gskills value series 1333 mhz. About once a week, I get a blue screen of death and restart. Verified drivers were current on everything, did the built in microsoft memory test with no problems, loaded the blue screen view program which shows it usually being memory management related, and finally burned a memtest86+ disc. Running memtest, I get errors in test 3, 4, and 5. Tried different slots with same results. So, I figure next step is to replace the ram. I could go with the one you have listed over just replacing with a single 8gb for the same money, any reason not to? Or, any other suggestions? -
DayZ Mod Suggestion shooting Zeds
foggierglint replied to Maarduuk (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No. And they shouldn't climb ladders, or open doors either. Zombies are supposed to be stupid. -
I've been trying to work a good solution to stopping the COD style play of this game and havne't figured it out yet, but it's something along these lines. A respawn delay for certain, but with a serious equation involved taking in to account humanity(I know...), time since last spawn, circumstances of death(suicide for a better spawn location? I don't think so), and other things. The KOS mentality I don't like, but do feel it is a realistic play style, so don't see the need to do anything about it. The people I see who die ten times in a night at Balota are what needs to be addressed.

I thought rest was like a 1% chance? That's a lot of resting to cure yourself. Antibiotics need to be more common. The whole basis of my game as a loner is to search for antibiotics. Dozens of hospital runs, crashed helicopters, and hitting medical tents over the last week have netted me zero antibiotics. That's a problem.

Stockpiling for log-outs.
foggierglint replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Negative. Bad idea. Sounds too much like my stupid sister who wakes up in the middle of the night to log in to a Facebook game to keep her farm running or some such nonsense. Real world causes me to log out, I want to be where I was when I finally get a chance to get back to it. -
I don't know who they would be? I have fraps running telling me what my rate is, and I verified my video settings were set at 2560x1440 and the selection above it is set to very high. I'm certainly not a computer expert, so don't know much about the details of what he even built, I just know they work.
-
It should be easily doable. I found a guy on craigslist who advertised building gaming systems to your needs and told him what I wanted to do. He built me a computer with an AMD eight core processor and a single 7850 video card and similar specs on everything else, then two months later when my dang kid wouldn't let me have any time on it I had him build a second one with an AMD six core processor and a pair of 7750 video cards in crossfire. Neither system cost me over $800, and both of them play day z at 35-50 fps with everything set to max and running 27" 2560x1440 monitors.

This. As a two week noob who had never heard of arma before, I had just assumed anything I find8 the game, I can use.
