Let new survivors roam the map.

Did you read the rest of the website, such as the very first paragraph of text?  They're "infected" AND "zombies"... why is this a problem? In the zombie genre there's two main clichéd causes: an infection that either animates the dead or causes the living to become enraged, or supernatural powers raising the dead. DayZ is based on the first cliché: some kind of infection (not specified whether they're enraged living, or animated dead -- it doesn't matter). IMO, it should take them a while to figure the ladder out -- they mill around the bottom for a minute trying it out, and have a chance to fall off as they climb ^_^

Wait, so if you bleed out completely, to the point where your heart is unable to pump any more due to lack of fluid, then applying a strong electric shock will somehow help it? For reference, IRL you'd go into cardiac arrest at 7200/12000 blood, and you'd require an emergency injection of blood to raise it up above that level before a defibrillator would be of any use. The blood mechanic already encourages team-play -- down at 2000/12000 blood you're basically already dead unless you've got friends with you.

For sure, if this was set in Australia, then all those dams/lakes that you find around Chernarus would be an easy food source (provided you had some net and line). ...But I'm not sure what the eastern European equivalent to Yabbies is, mate, or if they even have one ^_^ To anyone in Europe, I guess you've got these guys? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_crayfish Can you catch them from dams/lakes over there?

The reason why they L key only works "when looking down" is actually because it only works "when running at a good framerate". Looking down generally improves your framerate, hence the correlation there. Not sure why this is (another Arma2 engine flaw...), but if your friend takes measures to improve their framerate, then their L key will start working again...

Dayz becomes stand-alone game, what happens to us?
ActionManZlt replied to erikgmez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You chose to buy Arma 2 (which is great value at $30) to volunteer to be an alpha tester on a free Arma 2 mod.Good for you, that was your choice. Should I have gotten Diablo 3 for free because I chose to play in the free beta weekend and had to buy a new PC to do so? -
I play DayZ to Roleplay
ActionManZlt replied to Powell (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
N.B. you were role-playing before as well, just as a shallow uber soldier character. -
Or from the developer's store, or from a brick-and-mortar store in a box...

Resurect Players possible?
ActionManZlt replied to stefan.buschmann@gmx.de's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This already exists with blood-bags, bandages and epi-pens... N.B. the 'health' meter in this game is not "hit points", it's blood. If you drain all of a person's blood, there's no way you can fix them afterwards. It's amazing as is that you can be revived at 1/12000 blood :P I've saved a friend who was down to 50/12000 before, and it was a hell of a rush! In DayZ: Anything below ~9000/12000 blood is "critical", where you're getting very close to death. Anything below ~5000/12000 blood is "you're about to die", get help quickly! Anything below ~2000/12000 blood is basically "dead". It's very hard to survive by yourself at that level of injury, and you practically need friends to "revive" you. In real life: 10800/12000 == chance of passing out, weakness, vomiting. 9600/12000 == you're in serious trouble. I hope you're in a hospital already. 7200/12000 == cardiac arrest, etc. you're fucked unless you've got a machine running your vital organs for you. -
They already do this sometimes -- they "agro" (sometimes slow, sometimes fast) towards any sound they hear, but if they don't find a player there, then they dont go fully "agro" and give chase.

Hair growth and weight change in game

In one of the recent talks rocket gave, he shows a slide that illustrates the beard idea -- there's a picture of a clean-shaven noob with clean clothing, and a veteran with a full beard and dirty clothing. -
Couple of suggestions to make it less of a deathamtch
ActionManZlt replied to maracusarillius_irl's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Only issue is, most of the times I've been murdered, it's been by some camping sniper on a hill 300m away from town. Even if they upped the aggro radius on snipers to 200m, they still wouldn't pull any aggro when sniping me. [edit]Sorry - I missed this bit: "Also random zombie spawns in the woods would tame down camping snipers."[/edit] IMO, snipers besides the CZ need to go... or maybe they'll be OK once all the duplication bugs and loot-farming exploits are fixed, so that they're actually as rare as they're intended to be... Furthermore, I've been sniped several times where my surviving friends have seen zombies aggro and run up the hill, but the sniper just DC'ed to avoid the zombies anyway... I don't mind too much when passive/friendly players use disconnecting to avoid death... but when a PvP player does it, that's just weak. Stary, Novy, Berez, NWAF and NEAF are just as bad as Cherno/Electro for camping snipers. -
Are we going to die if we go to the International Airfield?
ActionManZlt replied to Sacredify's topic in New Player Discussion
It's a high-traffic area, despite being so far from the coast. I've been there on 4 different low-population servers (e.g. ~6/50 players), and saw another survivor each time!! -
Zombies Knocking players unconscious
ActionManZlt replied to james_foschi@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The average adult human body has 5L of blood in it, so 9000/12000 life means you've lost 1.25L of blood (9K dayZ blood is where bad symptoms kick in, like the chance to be knocked unconscious). When you donate blood in RL, they only take about 450mL, which still causes some people to black out, become weak, throw up, etc... and takes your body 3 months to fully recover from. Losing 1.25L is life-threatening, and would put you in a "critical condition". So... If you've gotten yourself into a life-threatening state, THEN DO NOT RISK YOUR LIFE BY STANDING STILL NEAR ZOMBIES. If you're in a critical condition and you go getting knocked out by a zombie, then it's your own stupid fault for putting yourself in a situation where that could happen. You've got the choice to avoid this happening to your characters... Make sure you've recovered first (which can be done in a few minutes in DayZ, instead of weeks in RL) before risking your life in combat again. Or, you know, RUN... As you said though, if you've got a friend with you, who's armed and has medical supplies, then you're a lot safer in life threatening situations like this, which is a good thing™ as it adds depth and variation. If you understand the rules and consequences, then this isn't a problem. You've got to adjust your play-style after you get yourself seriously injured (yes, 9K blood remaining is serious -- there's a reason the life number is called 'Blood' instead of 'Hit Points' in this game), which again, is a good thing™ as it adds depth and variation. TL;DR - QQ L2P. -
Yeah, I know how bad the cartel situation in Mexico is, even on the other side of the world it makes headlines here... What I'm wondering is why on earth it's offensive to link to a google images link for "narco tanks"?That's a question directed at RoboSheriff, for being the one claiming offense.... P.S. home-made armoured vehicles fit perfectly with a zombie apocalypse, so +1 for the OP ;)

The majority of people that I've ran into in-game haven't tried to kill me, even when they've had the drop on me... Would be interesting to see some global statistics, because our own individual experiences are too limited to be statistically significant.

Anyone getting teleported to previous position?
ActionManZlt replied to chrismgtis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've had it happen once, but a friend of mine has it happen all the time. Some kind of desync bug. Apparently you can tell when it's about to happen because your debug monitor will disappear first -- if you see that happen, then re-log and you'll avoid it. -
It's the damn apocalypse, you shouldn't be running into other survivors very often. Map size is good at the moment... In an ideal world, the max player limit and the world size would be bigger. 15km*15km is pretty damn small for a whole "country" -- that's not even the size of a real capital city.

How to NOT find 1.7.2 servers?
ActionManZlt replied to DemonicNarwhal's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're saying that you can't play Arma 2? Are you sure about that? ;P -
Are you sure about that? I've had it at ~45 and still gotten aggro from over 100m away, and I've had it at ~10 and gotten aggro from 50m away...I figured it was a percentage value for the chance to be spotted.

New player , rage, frustration , guilt and death
ActionManZlt replied to Rosseeles's topic in New Player Discussion
He was most likely a camping, pussy, sniper -- the most cowardly kind of bandit out there. You did the rest of us a favour, and probably saved the lives of 10 other noobs!Go walking around with his gun though, and other players are going to make the same assumption about you ;) -
My first murder and now I feel guilty
ActionManZlt replied to dnoparker@gmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
N.B. when a bandit dies and respawns, they're no longer a "bandit" any more, and they've got to kill another 5 people before the game decides that they're a bandit again. If you're one of their first 5 intended victims (after respawning), then defending yourself will count as +1 murder, not +1 bandit kill.
