Night time simply reduces visibility, a lot. It depends on the phase of the moon as to how much ambient light there is. On a moonless night, it can become pretty much pitch black at night, where you can't even see your own hand in front of your face. This makes torches, weapons with attached flashlights, flares and chem-lights (glow-sticks) very important items. I like playing at night because it's easier to escape from bandits ^_^ It's also easier to avoid detection from zombies due to the reduced visibility -- assuming you can see them in the first place (zombies don't react to flashlights, so they won't chase you if you shine your torch on one)... but if you don't have any kind of light, then it's very easy to accidentally walk right into a zombie and get yourself in a bad situation! When running away, you often don't see things like fences either, and might get yourself stuck if you panic too much in the dark.

The bold bit is the truth. Experiments have been done when people use head-mounted cameras to record their view while running, and then they later watch that footage while sitting still. While they're out running, they can't perceive very much "head bob" at all, but later when watching the footage, there is so much "head bob" that many people experience motion sickness while watching the footage. This is because your brain uses the synchronized inputs from your vestibular organ to cancel out the shaking that's present in the "footage" from your eyes, and you don't perceive it. Anyway, Arma is nice enough to make it an option. Personally, I leave it on extremely low (but not zero).

What processor and what graphics card do you have?
-
That is an incredibly slow CPU. DayZ is a CPU hog, even my 2.4GHz quad core struggles badly. These all (mostly) reduce the GPU workload, not the CPU workload. That notebook CPU is about 10 times slower than a good desktop CPU. The best thing you can do is look for a "no zombies" server, as that will actually reduce the CPU-workload... but in that case, you may as well just play Arma :P

New monitor - Mod is unplayable, have been playing since day one
ActionManZlt replied to snafu18's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What? Even if you leave the resolution at what you had it on before, the game still runs slower? Are any other games affected by this "hardware change"? Is performance still bad if you switch back to the original monitor? -
DayZ could use some roguelike mechanics...

what does battleeye ban do?
ActionManZlt replied to PresidentEvil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The steam version doesn't even use your steam account for registration, it still uses a cd key like the non-steam version. -
Cheating.

Yeah it wasn't mentioned in the patch notes for some reason, but the bandit skin is back, as just a face-covering cloth. As mentioned above, there's also now a hero skin (cloth around the neck instead of face) for people with high humanity. There's also reports that heros run faster than bandits and also have higher damage resistance...

My suggestions to Dayz (many pictures, short read)

Yes, they're just really big scaled up versions of:Pic-Upload.de ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Site don't allowed http://i.imgur.com/55SIF.png I'm guessing that your image host doesn't appreciate hotlinking? -
Is there any way I could run DayZ with my computer?
ActionManZlt replied to HavokFI's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes. If you want to test it, download the official "Arma2 free" version and see how it runs. DayZ generally runs only slightly slower than standard Arma2. -
An antibiotic will not work on a virus ...
ActionManZlt replied to davethejackal's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Aren't anitbiotics used to treat the coughing disease in the game that you can catch during low body temperature, not for fighting off a zombie-virus infection? -

All your pictures just say Pic-Upload.de ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Site don't allowed -
To expand on the above, if you were banned from a server, it's not a BattleEye/DayZ thing, it's an action taken by that server admin.

Problems hearing where people are with a Logitech G35 headset.. Anyone else?
ActionManZlt replied to bb_mjaw@live.se's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
When I first got a G35 my surround sound in Arma was all messed up, yeah. Can't remember what I did to fix it, but it's bloody perfect now. Download the latest software update, and/or trying flicking the surround-sound switch on and off while in-game to reset it. [edit] also see - http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/74740-audio-problems-first-person-g35/ -
You got to watch as someone hijacked your PC and downloaded and ran a trojan in front of you? Ouch, man. You've got to buy a new key ;(

"I went to the edge of the map," Where exactly? You're not supposed to set up camps outside of the map.

cherno/elektro deathmatch makes the rest of chernarus irrelevant
ActionManZlt replied to Fuji (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Over the course of one weekend, me and a buddy raided the NWAF on 4 different occasions. We just join servers at random, so each time we were on different servers. 4 out of 4 times, there was another player raiding the barracks! And this was on low-pop servers (<10 players)! When I need a hospital, I go to Berez instead of Cherno/Elektro, they're too dangerous. -
This is a SIMULATION, not a GAME.
ActionManZlt replied to Puffy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In real life, I have a haptic connection with my body and can sense where my limbs are, I also have a very wide FOV that's impossible to capture in a 1st person view (without getting a 200 degree wrap around monitor / HMD). Third person gives me these realistic features! However, the problem is that it violates the reality of line-of-sight, allowing me to see around corners. This can be easily fixed by having the engine compute a shadow-map from the avatar's head, and not rendering any objects that fail the shadow test. Then if something is visible from the 3rd person camera, but not visible to the player, it won't be drawn. That's the real fix, and it's easy to code. Also, for people who suffer from kinetosis (simulation sickness), 1st person games induce nausea, so for them, 3rd person is a great accessibility feature. -

How do you put a flashlight on your shoulder? -
Have you checked the windows security and read-only options?
-
Make sure you've got windows security privileges to that directory, make sure the file's not read only, make sure your virus scanner isn't whack.

Probably a bug. When you log out in shock, then next login you're unconscious. Looks like last time you died, it somehow counted as "logging out during shock"... Did you maybe quit before the "You are dead" screen appeared?

dayz players are racist
ActionManZlt replied to synnyster tick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How big is your sample size? Do you know what "statistically significant" means? I've played as a black guy, a white guy and a woman, and didn't notice a significant difference. My worst being-murdered streak was when playing as a white woman actually.I usually play as a black guy with spectacles, just to be different, as most people don't customize their character at all and all look like the default white guy. Statistically, if a small percent of all people are racist, then a decent number of the 1.2M players are going to be racist yes. Whether that means they'll kill someone for having a black avatar is another matter.
