DayZ - Cool FPS but micro stuttering ?
ActionManZlt replied to kyuubi's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Could be something in the background instead of Arma. To be sure it's Arma (which is likely...): if you've got a virus scanner, disable it, and quit everything else that's running. -
Rivers and Islands: A Use for Boats
ActionManZlt replied to mizzoufan96's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There's always been the one smallish island (skalitzky?) and the large island of Utes has been confirmed as an addition in the SA. Not sure about other smaller ones though, and yeah, rivers aren't likely at this stage because they don't have the proper tech for them. I never go out to skalitzky because I'm worried that someone stranded out there will steal my boat, and then leave me stranded! -

No. Get off the Internet. It's obvious that no offence was intended. The grown up thing to do is just grow a damned sense of humour and chuckle away your accusations of ignorance, instead of derailing the thread for page after page. No one cares that you're offended. You're being a damn child, screaming out that someone hurt your feelings and demanding an apology when it's obvious that no one meant to hurt you, and that it's irrational for you to be hurt right now. The persona of internet sites like this is that of a nonchalant teenager -- you're not going to get your apology, you're going to get a "cool story, bro" at best, and just have more people laugh at your lack of ability to get along with people that grate on you, and probably have a few people try and make fun out of you, because you're an obvious target for being wound up by trolls (assuming you're not trolling us with all this fake offense to begin with...) Describing a fictional character from your mind as having a specific accent is not racism. It's absolutely crazy for you to be making that accusation. If zombies were people, they would be "special needs" - they're freaking half brain dead. Their pathfinding / AI in the current implementation is also... quite lacking... Yes, comparing bad path-finding to the behaviour of a disabled person is very insensitive -- you would never walk up to a stranger in a wheelchair and mock his ability to walk -- but comparing the walking abilities of a fictional zombie to a (non-specific) disabled person is simple just black humour. It's not making a joke out of anyone. Yes, calling someone 'retarded' or 'spastic' shows an ignorance of and insensitivity towards people that actually have those conditions, just as calling bad things "gay" is ignorant/insensitive to homosexuals... but if we all went on a multi-page rant whenever someone mis-used "retarded" or "gay" as a synonym for "bad" on the Internet then 99% of the Internet would be made up of stupid complaints like yours. Instead, we just grow a sense of humour and/or get over it. Also, I have a gay friend that also use this manner of speech (calling bad things "gay") and an acquaintance with cerebral palsy that calls stupid things "retarded" (despite ignorant people often calling him "retarded"). These people are well adjusted, unlike yourself. You think you're being a nice guy by getting offended on behalf of others, but for all you know, these other people are capable of having a chuckle, making your ruckus completely pointless, which makes you a bad person. You are bad and wrong. Badong. I too am very offended by people that get overly offended for irrational reasons. I'd appreciate if DaveZ would apologize for upsetting us. -

The original post was obviously not intended to be offensive in any way at all.I find racism abhorrent, but the OP was not being racist, at all. You're projecting racism onto him, then becoming offended, then ranting about it. That was your choice. That... is... ridiculous...The only reason that the money is flowing out of the country is because of the prohibition against it -- just like when there was prohibition against alcohol how all the booze money went into the Mafia and organized crime, today all the pot money goes to Mexican psychopaths. Real clever. In countries without prohibition, there's the same number of users (and actually a decrease since de-criminalization, due to money that was previously spent on useless enforcement now being spent on rehabilitation, education and support programs), but they money spent by those users goes towards legitamate businesses and is taxed by the government. You can't blame stoners for the economic consequences of their lifestyle when it's actually government policy that's causing these effects, and you can't stamp out a subculture with inhumane enforcement (remember that the criminalization of pot was originally introduced as a legal way to discriminate against mexicans, where the culture of marijuana use was common). All that Nixon's war on drugs has done is waste billions on enforcement, make cartels rich, and ensure that 25% of the worlds prisoners are American, while only 5% of the world is American. As for every stoner being useless... never mind all the brilliant artists, thinkers and scientists of the world who've enjoyed the occasional joint. We'd be better off if they'd all been locked up, right.... I guess anyone who ever has a beer once a month is a also just a useless alchoholic that's a drain on society too. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
ActionManZlt replied to 's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
What the fuck are you on about?Labelling an unfinished product as an "alpha" is exactly what should be done. That's what "alpha" means! Failing to properly label it as an alpha is what the "The War Z" people did, which caused outrage. Selling access to a game from the alpha stage onwards is popularly known as "the minecraft model", and it's quite common for non-AAA games now. As long as the customer knows they're buying a work-in-progress, what is immoral about it? As for rocket misrepresenting himself, WTF? He's always had a public link to his LinkedIn page, that shows that he's a BI employee (http://www.linkedin....en_US&trk=tyah2). When DayZ became popular (which was an independent, non-BI related, crappy little hobby mod of his, outside of work), he publicly stated at the time that BI pulled him off A3 and started paying him to work on DayZ full time, at which point it became a real BI project. That's all public knowledge. -

A Call of Duty game costs about $100 million USD to make, so comparitively, DayZ/Arma are very, very small markets making tiny amounts of money. That's a good thing though, because BI are all about making niche games that their small fan-base love the shit out of, instead of making annual dumbed-down mainstream garbage. -

I love the G17 simply because it's got a flashlight glued to it. When looting at night, you can quickly flick it on and off again if you need to check a dark spot, with much less risk than a flare, and much quicker/safer than pulling out your actual flashlight. I see it more like a flashlight with an attached pistol B) -

The family tree: OFP --> Arma 1 Arma 1 --> Arma 2 Arma 2 --> Take on Helicopters TOH --> Arma 3 TOH --> DayZ SA This is how most game development companies that use their own engine tech operate -- they branch their previous game, strip it down, then build it back up again into the next game. Notice DayZ breaks the pattern. The A3 version of the engine is still in major development, and DayZ SA also requires them to make some heavy modifications. Doing both at once on the same branch will just slow down the development pace of both games, and Arma 3 is still too unstable to be branched from, so they've had to back up and create another branch out from TOH. They chose to branch from the stable TOH version of the engine, rather that co-developing it alongside Arma 3 on the newest branch of the engine, for the sake of stability in both games. Because of this, it will be missing out on the latest graphical and simulation features that have been added between TOH and Arma 3, but at the same time, Arma 3 will be missing out on the re-written netcode and cheat-protection that DayZ SA will bring... Hopefully in the future they merge both these branches back together. -

Can you tell us what you think HDR is? HDR is basically the exposure setting on the camera, which makes it so that the image on the screen appears fairly natural at every time of day. Without the game tweaking the exposure knob on the virtual camera for you, you wouldn't be able to see at night, and the mid-day sky would be a blinding white.... so disabling HDR I think is not what you're looking for.

Why can't this give me more fps?
ActionManZlt replied to -Thanatos-'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
The maxframesahead setting isn't a magic fix. It only fixes some cases where the CPU is working too hard queueing up several frames for rendering while the GPU is being overwhelmed with work. That's your problem. I have the same CPU. It sucks for DayZ...Quick all the background applications that you can. Overclock the CPU if you can. Buy a new CPU if you can... Play on low-population servers with low zombie counts... Try using the launch options / command line arguments of "-maxVRAM=1024 -nobenchmark -nosplash -skipIntro -cpuCount=4 -exthreads=3 -malloc=system" Post up your graphical settings -- some of them when set to Low actually increase the CPU workload while decreasing the GPU workload. You've got a good GPU so you should be able to handle most settings on High. -

But they said it won't be out before June!! Right? NOT BEFORE JUNE.THAT MEANS IT'S CONFIRMED TO BE COMING OUT ON JUNE 1ST. ROCKET SAID! [/full retard] :P -
The 'interface size' option might also help.

DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
ActionManZlt replied to 's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Yes, because developing a product of this size is in no way a team activity and one man, Dean Hall, is responsible for completing every single line of code and shaping every triangle all by his own lonesome self. -
First, apps that measure "GPU usage" are unreliable. Second, if your CPU usage is higher than your GPU usage, that just means that the game's GPU work is less than it's CPU work, which means that your framerate is bottlenecked by the CPU. This means that if you crank up the GPU settings (e.g. increase resolution), then your framerate will likely stay the same...

It's actually a huge disadvantage in Arma to be fighting against someone who is uphill towards the sun, as you'll blind yourself staring into the sun. If tactical glasses / sunglasses / etc actually reduced glare and lens-flare, it would be really cool :D

Why is DayZMod still marked as "Alpha"?
ActionManZlt replied to tsandrey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The game is still buggy and unpolished as all fuck, so every player should be aware that it's an "alpha" and not a final product. Whenever anyone complains about bugs or any of the endless non-user-friendly features, the instant (and correct) response is "you're playing an alpha, report the bug and get used to it". DayZ as a huge gaming phenomenon was an accident. Bohemia never planned on making DayZ at all, and rocket never planned on becoming famous for it. It was a shitty little hobby mod, that happened to be in the right place at the right time to become popular. Just because 1 million of us downloaded this little experiment that was only originally aimed at <100 people, that doesn't give us the right to expect it to be a real 'live' game all of a sudden. The fact remains that it's still incomplete and experimental. -
*How to absolutely 100% force Dayz to use my dedicated GPU*
ActionManZlt replied to iSkillzorz's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
In these dual-GPU laptops, it's usually up to the driver as to which GPU is being used. Make sure you've got the charger cable plugged in, have it set to 'high performance' power usage mode, and play around with your nVidia drivers... -
Why is DayZMod still marked as "Alpha"?
ActionManZlt replied to tsandrey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alpha == a working build during development. Beta == (almost) feature complete, but not passed QA. Release == shippable, put that bitch in a box. The mod is stable and development has slowed pace, but that's mostly because effort is focussed on the SA (which is also in an alpha state right now). Many new features are being added to the SA right now, so if it's not feature complete, then the mod definitely isn't either. Also, almost every update for the mod is quickly followed by a hotfix, because new features keep being added, along with more game-breaking bugs. -
Arma 2 installation folder regime. Any clues?
ActionManZlt replied to George-Smiley's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Arma2 and A2:OA are both standalone games, so they're both installed into separate directories. The A2:CO mode runs OA but also tells it to load the original A2 data as a "mod", so that you've got the content from both available. -
Does anyone actually cares about boiling water?

Gout, which would be deathly to a nomadic scavenger and caffeine dependency aren't good either. -
I use Fraps or Steam mostly.

Does anyone actually cares about boiling water?
ActionManZlt replied to Leto (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I always carry a canteen, because it's an endless water supply -- finding a dam or a tap is reliable, they're always present. Basically, having a canteen enables the "drink from tap" ability, which is a bit odd when you think about it... When scavenging in towns, I'll drink soda as I find it, but don't carry it much unless I've got free space. With the boiling ability though... I'm not sure I'd trust boiling water in an empty soda can... A billy would be appreciated B) -
Congrats on being a gun nerd. Magazines and clips are still the same thing to the general public, who just wanna pop a cap in yo ass for being so pedantically nerdy. Oh wait, I mean fire a bullet from it's cartridge at your posterior, in case that the colloquialism was too hard to decipher.
