A more realistic CAMPFIRE ingredients that is already available in game
AP_Norris replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Things like permanent campfires and also crafting tables are what I hope we see in SA camps, less of the item hoarding we saw in the mod and more of a useful place to craft and cook. The best part about it is nobody can steal a campfire/ workbench. -

I think they should make you have to have a easier to light substance than logs, such as books/ paper/ kindling that you could cut right from a piece of firewood. You should be able to chop firewood, but maybe... You should have to let it dry into what the lootable stuff is? Permanent campfires, these could be crafted with the stones, have about 10+ to craft a fire maybe 20+ to craft a bigger fire that you could put a spit over. Permanent fires wouldn't be taken away on server resets and would maybe resonate heat better with all the old embers holding the heat for well and long. Cook bigger meat cuts on the spit. -
That's just bad luck, imagine when your character logs out he takes a nap.He just managed to wake up just as somebody was walking by. For combat loggers this would be too good, especially now in the games broken state. He could jump in and out of a server, being practically invincible as the poor people playing the game legitimately tried to shoot him. If you're that scared of being shot on login find a server with no one on it.

[SA] Wearing sunglasses causes less sun brightness
AP_Norris replied to Goodwin-'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
They should crack at badly damaged, ruined should be missing a lens aswell.Worn/ should just be dirty/ dusty and you can clean lens with rag/ on shirt as I do with my aviators. Damaged could have scratches? I hope they give the screen a slight tinted view aswell making it harder to see in the dark. But the advantage would be that the sun basically appears with next to no blinding flares. The real advantage would be removing the chance of being caught out by smart ambushers hiding in the sun as they shoot. The same stuff could be done with gas masks, and motorbike helmets. It would add a great deal to first person servers. -
I thought you meant the thing that shoots incoming explosives down. It would be okay, I would, prefer however the use of a diary system. As being rewarded with pieces from a dead person may encourage killing, where the dev team has put a lot of effort in to make killing people less rewarding and also make robberies safer (restraining). If you went and rewarded people that wish to take, they might take pristine gear from guy the restrain then go ahead and shoot him for his ears. If you have a Diary, you can have tally's/ numbers there for people killed, people restrained, items given (with some sort of hold out item for others to take from your hand mechanic/ animations), saline given, blood given, epi pen used, defib used. All that kind of shit, with a pen you could write stories, tear off that story page and leave it as a piece of paper, to limit of about 20 which can be refilled by combine paper with Diary. The diary takes up its own inventory spot and cannot be taken/ dropped until the player is dead, maybe you can read a restrained players diary to find out what sort of person they are. This encourages a fairer trial and restraining, rather than just "bandit skin! Kill him." My views, on trophy is just that you should grow a beard over time, that you should be able to shave/ style. Woman? Long hairstyles? Why not men too?

Yes, realistic. Hardcore game must be hardcore.

I suppose that is where it gets down to, do you want it to depend on player /character skill.Combat should always be player skill dependant. But I don't want only pilots being able to turn on helicopters. I honestly see no problem with people being able to do everything, it should just be much trickier and be as realistic as possible. Helicopters require some pretty tricky start ups from a ToH Tutorial I was watching I want it to be that hard so only around 10% of players know how to do that or something.

No, you didn't read what I said zombies require the same stuff to support themselves as people in dayZ.If a dayZ zombie looses lots of blood he will have no pressure in his arteries and blood won't be able to pump itself into their brain meaning their brain gets no oxygen and dies.
-
Could just be guns without ammo. Except with some pistols.
-
Good to hear it's going down, hopefully they continue to add more civilian weapons and then some Chernarus military stuff instead of M4's that don't belong there and in such great numbers.
-
These zombies are still people.I was thinking post op mine survivors. Think of them as infected, still running off their vital organs and need blood. Being split in half by a car, would definitely cause death from bloodloss.
-
It would be better than random backstories if you ask me.But to me there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to be good at everything things should just be harder, makes the game more difficult and improves our real world knowledge :)

Dean doesn't encourage the purchase of alpha anyway.
-
If they added a minefield more like.People without limbs are still going to be rare at any old hospital.
-
Automatic shotguns aren't tactical. An 870 is great for nowish.

I lost my job & wife because I'm addicted to AMC's The Walking Dead.

Have been looking for 4 days...
AP_Norris replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
I found my first mosin/ gun on a second story residential seat.As if to say, I have been waiting Norris, then we frolicked together. I found my first rounds, loaded it and logged off a little later. The next day I found out Rocket had cleared everybody's character and I didn't get to shoot it, still haven't :( Y Ruckit! -
those hands show up in your vincinity like a bagpack on the ground. it maybe got 10 slots or like that. if u drag items in there the server does not have to render the real object on the ground which causes lags and lost items.max. 2 ppl can do this trade at once. and if u like a safe trade to could offer items in your open hands for any goods in your opponents hand and u both have to accept the trade first. (like you pull back your hands). with items in your hands still in the animation u cant run and u cant hold or shoot weapons.like that. u must first put them in ur inventory to go on. what do you think? i think its good because it doesnt strain the server and its much faster, easier, and safer, then simply dropping. but u could still drop items nevertheless ps. sry i dindnt find better pics lol Pls sir, may I hav some more?Same could be done with weapons, hold both ends and weapon out in front, guy presses f5 to present it, other guy must be close and have crosshair close to get the F option to take into hands.

Why should I pay for a game with less features, when I can get a mod with more features for free?
AP_Norris replied to gaelicwarlord's topic in New Player Discussion
Buy when you want to. It will get more features soon, over the period of about two years expect the retail version will have overtaken the mod on everything. Features~Optimisation~Security. Everything except price. -
Cannot be raided? I'm not into that. Removing the riskiness of loosing gear destroys the fear involved in PVP. I would like little camps that you don't really store gear in, but instead have things that are very hard to destroy/ steal. Things like the workbenches/ ammo bench that they had in fallout 3 & NV. Big party tents and propane heaters, barbecues, and a big stone surrounded campfire with a spit. Anybody shows up? Who cares? All he will do is saw off his shotgun and change a couple of his shotgun shells into split shells as a sort of improvised riot round. Then quickly cook up that that old piece of meat he has been lugging around. Maybe he stumbles in there while the clans all around, walks up to them by the fire. Then... He pulls out, not a gun, but a Banjo and sings the clan some folk songs as they all enjoy some moonshine and scary clown guys lucky rabbit foot casserole. None of this loot 20 tents of shit you don't need crap, I hate it, it isn't fun, it consumed me once and it wasn't fun loosing it all. Just my opinion though, I'm not against having small amounts of loot that you can keep safe, as in a safe or something :D keep a pistol and some mags, maybe emergency beans? That's all I need to stash :|

Bandits aren't at all the best players. The best players don't bother with PVP because they know it's either camping/ shooting unarmed atm. Anybody camping has a massive advantage (which good players don't do) good players go and help the new spawns to try and improve the community, they will say "hey that fully armed guy helped me instead of shooting me, maybe I should do the same like the good old days" If people don't have ammo, they might have to rely on bluff robberies where they actually have no ammo. Be tempted to get closer instead of taking lots of potshots. Identify targets and never bother shooting newspawns. Less ammo will basically lessen most problems a little bit. When people have ammo they're tempted to use it.

Since this is supposed to be so realistic
AP_Norris replied to Meedle's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think we should have a longer period between a bad state and death, things like extreme fatigue. Keep spawning us hungry, I think hunger system is pretty good. Food needs to be rarer, especially when wildlife & cooking is added. Some annoying things that could happen when hungry to simulate hunger? Heavy head, camera very slowly tilts down over time. Chance of being unconscious, coma. Walking once very hungry should be the most sensible option (a notification would be good) "I will last much longer if I conserve my energy by walking" when hungry, it should be your only priority as you scour houses and fields for signs of something to eat. Food and water should still be priority when spawning, none of this get to the guns crap that ain't survival that's murder. -
I more want zombies to be a big problem, taking away from your ability to just shoot somebody as you're trying to be quiet and avoid them. But, if you think about it a silencer would be a huge advantage if you saw him first. Now you have a silencer that he doesn't if he isn't instantly dead and tries to return fire he will have zombie troubles. I was just thinking, in the open. In town through buildings a zombie is never going to identify the gunshots point of origin. In an open field/ farmland though, you can hear gunshots kilometres away. Why should zombies ears be any less effective than ours if we want a challenge.

So you choose the backstory?
-
No, if I see burnt out and crushed vehicles I want a story/ reason for their presence. In the mod it just seemingly spawns random shit all over the roads. Maybe in the forest there is a small road with and overturned truck with a couple destroyed cars behind it. If you look at it you can assume that with the close quarters of the road people exited their cars to inspect what was ahead of the truck, only to be ambushed by zombies/ bandits/ rouge military. I'd like to see some hints at rouge military too, if there were any more influential groups of survivors surely it would be a rouge military squad. Setting up random places of a last stand with a mixture of civilian and military style things. Slightly earlier and better equipped versions of the survivors we play as. Still able to survive in cities and such, meaning solitary fortified buildings with torn down barricades.
