Game needs a sniper heavier than 7.62

Again the mil can not be taken down by an ak or an m16. Look at the video if you don't believe me. And that inst a glitch that's intentional. As for difference between an m24 and an antimaterial rifle, what does it matter the damage if both one shot kill? If I shoot you with an m24 and it kills you instantly and I shoot you with a .388/.50cal and it insta kills you does it matter which one does more damage? Rate of fire would be slower or equal on a .50cal bolt action, and yes the range would be a couple hundred meters farther.

It mite not have been hacked. I found a svd npsu(night vision scope) at a chopper crash.

So you yield the realism argument. Good. Now lets work on the balance. At this point, taking down a chopper and building a chopper are not equivalent. It takes much more gear, much more teamwork, and much more luck to shoot one down then to build one. I am not proposing we introduce stinger missiles that insta gib choppers, I am proposing a heavier caliber BOLT action rifle that can penetrate the glass on all the choppers and that can do render inoperable a rotor in a couple shots.(Not something you can do to a flying chopper) But that does not seem to be your problem, you seem to worry about pvp combat correct? I honestly do not see the difference between this and a m24 for pvp. Both would have sufficient damage to easily drop a player at range. And because its bolt action, it has the same fire rate problems. Besides would someone want to waste ammo on a non armored target or risk losing the gun for killing a couple survivors, a task they could do just as well with a m24 and probably better with a DMR?

Pick a side either realism or balance. I think my suggestion fits both. Realism Argument: Calibers above 7.62 are found in almost every military in the world, as this game is a end of the world simulator, one would expect to find calibers that exist in the world. Those calibers do not magically stop at 7.62 and include .388 lapua(a caliber I would love to see) and .50 cals. To say that those calibers are impractical or detrimental for survival in a zombie apocalypse is to change the argument. The in game weapons are not all perfect or even helpful in a zombie Apocalypse. Example is the enfield, aka the dinnerbell, Yet the devs put it in because it represents a real world counter part. You say a player can not move/hike with a .50 cal rifle(how bout a .388?), I beg to differ. First, Why do I have to hike? I have a pickup truck in dayz, surely I can throw it in the back? That is realistic. Besides in game characters have no trouble carrying an m240 with 1,000 rounds of ammunition. To say that if the world is to end in a zombie Apocalypse that all calibers above 7.62 would disappear is not realistic and to say that carrying a .50 cal is impractical and therefore should not be in the game is simply changing the argument.(and failing to admit that items of equal weight can already be carried in dayz. Balance argument: You may play in Dayz servers where you never see a helicopter but if you get a group of even a couple mediocre dayz players you can easily get a military helicopter up and running with little trouble. The Helicopters are extremely tricky to take down. Yes, with enough players with DMRs, or M249s you can drop a heli. But it takes a lot teamwork, extremely nice gear, and a bad pilot in the heli. However there are some choppers that are virtually invincible with a decent pilot. The military Mils have invincible pilot seats. Don't believe me? watch the video I put in the forum where 4 guys with extremely nice gear shoot at a LANDED non moving chopper and still could not take it down. Now tell me that you can do it while its flying, I doubt it. So how do we balance realism of heavy calibers with helis. I propose rather than make choppers weaker, add a rifle(I hope a couple) capable of punching through the mil bulletproof glass and that does significant damage to the rotors, make it a bolt action so accuracy is still key and make it a heli spawn or rare barrack spawn. So choppers flying around and playing smart will still be fine to absolutely destroy new spawns. But if you catch a pilot landing or sitting in the pilot seat, you can actually do damage to the Heli. I think a heavier caliber bolt action sniper would be both realistic and balanced in that it is rare and takes a bad pilot and a well placed shot to symbolize a helicopter.

DMR does not one shot players.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0xzSGkDb0U thats a mil 17 with 4 players shooting at it while landed and they couldnt kill the pilot or disable it. So b.s. on you taking one down with a sa58.

Its not like you can only have one gun in dayz. I have a tent full of gear and a pickup truck for more gear. As for the american guns cant be in cause its in Russia. That hasn't stopped the game from having the m24 or the m4s so it is silly to that only Russian weapons should be added when that does not seem to matter to the devs.

Why not there is already american guns. M4s, Dmrs, m40s, just three examples.

the same could be said for military choppers

Where are you getting this elitist mentality? Have you shot a .50cal or a .338 lapua? I have not shot a .50 cal but I have shot a .338 lapua and it is not something that only 1% of the population can do. As for carrying 30+pounds of gear, yea I can cause I hike and so can a lot of people. If you arnt worried about balance then there definitely should be .50 cal snipers in game as every major military has them.

it is not a "survival simulator" it is a end of the world simulator, complete with guys scrounging for beans, guys in pickup trucks, and organized groups that have more in common with a para military group than the survivor looking for beans. Those groups at the top of the food chain have massive military choppers. The guys looking for beans cant do anything but hide and the guys with the pickup truck cant shoot it down. So the only thing that can is other military choppers or 4-5 people shooting at it with high level gear. Its ridicolous. Thats it from a balancing perspective. From a realism perspective, soldiers do it all the time so why not in dayz?

Well is this a balance question or a realism question? In most fps, balance trumps realism but here realism is seen as important. So from realism yea there should be as 50s and m107s. What I am suggesting is a balance. There should be heavier caliber rifles but that doesn't mean choppers become easy mode to take down. You still need to hit the pilot or the rotor so either an extremely skilled shot or they were landing/taking off. Plus because it would be bolt action you couldn't spam fire.

Bad luck twice, and captured on video once? That doesn't sound like bad luck that sounds like the glass is bulletproof. Plus I was on ts with the admin when they both happened, it wasnt hacking.

? unpractical as in every major army uses them?

Mite have been a civilian MI 17 their glass is weaker. I have put 3 clips of SVD into one pilot seat of a mil taking off and nothing. I also put 4 rounds of m40 in another case into the pilot seat and nothing. I had a mil 17 try to land on my fortress where both me and a friend dumped 4 mags each of DMR into it. It was smoking but if still flew away.

309 enemy kills including 36 dead German snipers all to one female Russian sniper.

not a military mil. Maybe a Huey. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0xzSGkDb0U like three players trying to kill the pilot out of a non moving military mil and they are all geared. Even with good gear it is hard to take down a heli.
  18. thisisPyro

Game needs a sniper heavier than 7.62

you don't find it silly that players can get fully operational military helicopters but asking for a rifle in a caliber above 7.62 is ridiculous?
  19. thisisPyro

Game needs a sniper heavier than 7.62

Bringing down a Huey takes a combination of a bad Huey pilot, a couple attackers, and top of the line gear. But what about the mil? The Mil 17's pilot can NOT be shot out by any gun,and the hull/rotor/engine are extremely tough.

Really? Never heard of the Russian snipers in WW2?

Game needs a sniper heavier than 7.62

The .338 Lapua is a dual-purpose anti-personnel and anti-materiel round, but its anti-materiel potential is limited, according to wikipedia

    Yea cause that is realistic.

Game needs a sniper heavier than 7.62

The military Mils have bulletproof glass on the cockpit. Meaning you can not shoot the pilot out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0xzSGkDb0U just an example of how strong the armor is on a heli.

The SVD is already in game and is much different than the DMR. I much prefer harder hitting bolt action rifles to semi auto spam. But I also think there should be choices. This is suppose to be the end of the world and the world has a lot of guns in it.
