  1. I'll admit, being on holiday and not trying the various patches coming out, I get to read the forums and be a neutral though jealous observer. Will my character even be around when I get back? Hiding in some barn with my 1911 is how I left it, but I wonder, with tent resets, zombie tinkering, no more Makarov at spawn, and all the other little changes that go with it... What happens when the Alpha comes to an end? I presume that all if the characters are wiped and we all start on even footing. If this is indeed the case, maybe the real question is: why hack and cheat and horde in a mod that will just reset for Beta and possibly be reset as it ports over to ArmA3? The good thing about people doing this is that it helps to fix the mod, but I never did understand why cheating at an online game empowered people. The zeros and ones will be reset. Why struggle now?

    When the Alpha ends...

We play for fun, I am on that side, but beyond those of us who just play for fun, whether that's killing zombies or players or just stealhing, the question is really, why cheat, why hack, why move outside the game to get things in it that aren't real, aren't going to last? I've been on a server and people have mentioned items that were hacked into the game and stuck in tents, I've seen videos of vehicles that aren't supposed to be in the mod, and people were moving things off of the map to keep it from other players. Sounds like a weird way to have fun. Yeah I found a jeep and a car and a land rover and an ATV and I parked them where they can sit and look pretty. What? Explain that bit. It's not like they're real, and not like you're getting your team loaded up and attacking a town like it's a Road Warrior movie. I suppose that my withdrawal has me asking sillier questions by the day.
  3. Okay, theoretically, a zombie existing in the way many programs and films make them out to be is possible, though the number of events that need to take place in order makes it near impossible. There is a fungal theory, look it up if you wish. It's been a while since I read any of the articles about it. I suspect the idea is to take this fanciful pop culture genre of the zombie apocalypse and make a simulator, map out what it would be like if our one extreme variable could happen. So each tweak, eatch patch, each idea is about trying to figure out "If this did happen, how would it play out in the real world" and make it fun for the player as well. We might be part of some United Nations study for all we know. Let's chart what survivors would do, let's look at the psychology of it, the needs of the people, the way society will restructure itself. TheGoldElite is right in the assessment, thou I prefer to say it this way: If you don't like it, go away. No ne is pointing a Makarov at you and making you play. Wait, maybe someone is...

    how many girls play dayz?

I'm a woman who plays DayZ. Female, girl, gal, whatever you want to use. Yes. I love the game, despise the attitude of the bloodthirsty players who kill me. But why do they kill me? Despite my choice of female, a trip to Debug Island and some failed attempts to get the game running have left me stuck with a male skin. I don't need to worry about costumes since I am fine with a survivor skin but I might want to figure out if I'll ever get to be the skin I selected and then see if my game experience changes. And if being a real female helps me live longer when I finally have a hatchet, knife and matches, then so be it! Every weapon in the arsenal is fair play. That's part of the idea behind the game, right?
  5. I was going to give up on this game, but after posting here, some people gave me great advice. After some time to come to terms with the fact that people are annoying, especially new spawn killers who want Makarov mags and beans, I gave it another try. A few attemptsat escaping the spawn campers and I made it. I've had two good runs, one where zombies left me bleeding to death, and another where someone shot me after I single handedly wiped out eleven zombies with only a tiny scratch. Lame excuse? "I was low on ammo" which was a lie, I just cleared the way to a barn which would have been full of goodies. People still suck, are still trying to be bullies in a game to fix their real life woes, but hey, I killed 118 zombies and never once shot a player in that last run. I'd call that managing to bounce back from a string of five minute sessions where players kept killing me. Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to keep going and provided tips. Our conversation may be deleted with the roll back of the forums, but I remember it.
  6. When you're stuck with an Enfield and have, oh, about 80 rds for it, you find the fun in luring zombies into buildings to die. Shoot one and they think the dinner bell rang. Then they all have to be put down. Kind of terrifying, but thanks for the compliment. Wll try to be a bit more stealthy, more prone and less crouch, maybe.

    Exploiters

People take games far too seriously. Be proud of kicking ass on a bandit, and laugh at how pathetic that player was in trying to escape in such a cheap way. I hope I find an M16 one day...instead of a bandit's bullet in the head. ;)
