Firepower to the People: my new end game plan
LaurenDanger replied to LaurenDanger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fresh spawns and sniper rifles get dicey. That's why the idea was pistols only, or as much as possible. I'm going to try and scout around Cherno, and maybe I'll catch some bandit griefer, but mostly to protect the spawns and get myself a proper sniper. The M14 is nice but I would prefer the proper DMR. Sniping the zombies chasing the unarmed noobs is entertaining. Until the zombies turn on me, anyway. Oops. Morphine is my friend of course. -

Now, now, don't put the pretty girl in quotes. People may attack me, be mean, swear, whatever. Have at it, people! It's a weird idea, arming the noobs and new spawns. The picture is just to prove that I am who I am. -

Thank you. I had my troubles starting out in this game but I enjoy the social experiment and challenge. If I can influence a few people for the better, so be it. If I die, well, it's only a game. I'll stick with it! -

Not the way it's Austin Power's middle name, but I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie. And DayZ is a game that does have a bit of that rush going when you get swarmed by zombies or have a confrontation with other players. :) -

I wouldn't worry about that. There are over a millin players on how many servers? And maybe a hundred of us willing to be silly enough to hand out guns. We can't arm everyone, but we'll help a few and keep a few noobs from whining on the forums and genuinely make a few people smile. All good reasons to try it. -

Now there is a winning idea. except I need to find tents. I've never bothered to keep them because I play alone. But picking five or six servers and rotating through to stock tents as time permits might be the way to end that silly spawning in kamenka curse. Thanks for the idea! -

I considered that despawn issue. Some people seemed to be dying regularly so I took a chance. I carried that thing for five days and all it did was take up space in my pack. Now I have space for steaks and pistols! A lady doesn't need more than that in a world gone to hell. Does she? ;) -

Well, I didn't say noobs specifically, just new spawns. If the person is new and responsive I will provide some firearms education. If the spawnie is experienced, then it's that item needed to help survive and get inland or to a tent or to friends. As for toying with them, well maybe, but as they enjoy the game, maybe watch videos or visit forums or check maps, they'll learn about the gifts they find. It's the risk I am willing to take. As for killing people on sight, may I request an exception if you run into me? -
I have a similar plan though I am not as well equipped and prefer to stay mobile. Having said that...Beluga, it's a fabulous idea. Keep on bringing some humanity back to this virtual world gone insane. Bloody bandits won't chase all of us away!

No system is perfect. But that's the risk in a world where your political rights are based on a gun-ocracy and you cast votes with bullets. If I could collect enough grenades (more than one per lifetime) I'd hand those out, too! -
Just to make things clear - weapons nerf is not a DayZ patch.

Today was the first time I had to fire it. It is nice, and I did land some head shots before running from a respawn of zombie army men on top of my position in the middle of a field. I knew there was a reason I took that instead of the AK 74. -
It was another blissful day in Chernarus, this current character or mine is on Day 12 thanks to avoiding people, gutting animals and even somehow surviving a failed press of F to return to my rifle and instead throwing a grenade at the zombie right in front of me. I decided that Seattle 1337 was just elite enough for me and that's where I decided I'd spend my day 12 adventure. But today I saw something weird on the map near my position, and when I moused over it, it said ATV, so I decided to check it out. I scouted the area, spotted the ATV, moved toward it. It lost, found it, and as I got close, I was kicked by Battle-eye. Okay, I log back in, go to investigate the ATV again, see that it has a broken wheel, see that there's ammunition and supplies in the gear option, and then I am kicked again. I moved to another server and finished out the time I had to play without further incident. Now. Does anyone know what happened, and do vehicles actually show up in blue on the map when you get close to them? I've never seen that before. This end of the world experience is getting weird.

Did I find an Illegal ATV?
LaurenDanger replied to LaurenDanger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alright, the consensus so far is that I didn't do anything wrong. Good. I have no interest in messing with anything hacked in or aces where they make it too easy to find things. Looks like Seattle 1337 isn't so leet after all. -

It said the server was on regular before I logged in. I've never been on a recruit server as far as I know. But maybe I misread it since the were a lot of other marks on the map, circled Xs and a note for good loot near Starry, which I know means "come here and let me snipe you" and thus I'd never go there. -

None of this explains why I needed two close range hits on a zombie with my M14. Was the 7.62 value lowered as well for these, shall we say, older, beefier rifles? Some died in one shot, some in two, and I saw the blood splatter effect so I know I hit the first time on the few that needed a second shot. Backward running wild firing is not really as much fun as the brochure made it seem! -
Bad version: somehow messed up getting to beta 94444
LaurenDanger posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Hello friends, I write with words, not in code, and I am not a computer expert, so maybe someone can direct me to the right place for help. I have a Wncows 7 machine, running the Steam version of the game, and here's my question: How do I get updated to 94444? I installed a beta latch before but now I seem to have messed up, and if I try to connect to a server I get a Bad Version error. I have all of the files for 1.7.2 and the file for the 94444 I just need to know she I am going wrong in installed in the most recent patch. I thought I was supposed to run it, then rename the old .exe to a backup and create this one as the new file, but that sticks me in an endless loop of trying to install 94444, which I already did. And it won't install after renaming files and starting in Steam because it says the ArmA2 file is running. I don't need any details about six updated or getting the files, I have them, I just need the bit about applying the new beta and making the game work again. Any advice or direction would be fabulous, and thank you for your time. -
[GUIDE - STEAM] To those spawning invisible / No Debug + Errors / Beta Update

Thank you for posting advice and links. Finally, FINALLY this has gotten me Into the game. Other issues can be solved later, I'm alive and spawned again. Greatly appreciated! -
Dropped from a hundred feet, that sounds like hacking and not the mod. Can't explain the other bits, though.

Issue using hatchet, bandages and flashlight
LaurenDanger posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Hey friends, I have the Steam version of ArmA2, beta patch, everything up to date, running from the Steam library non my windows 7 HP all in one machine. I do have two tiny problems with the game that have never changed since I started back in 1.6 and I hope someone has a clue. I did not know how to search for it by keyword. The main issue is I have trouble getting the green box to appear properly for removing the hatchet from my tool belt, or using a bandage. I can only bandage myself if the bandage is in the furthest right slot, and even then it takes a few tries before the option will go dark green for selecting. Tis means when I pick up a hatchet, if it is not on the far right of the tool belt section, I cannot interact with the options. They remain light green and often vanish behind the tool icons, the Flashlight gives me similar problems. No matter how I click, nothing happens. The other thing I've noticed is that when I log in, I hear the noise for the location and day information, but it has never displayed for me. Maybe there's a connection between these two issues. If anyone has a solution I can try so I can actually use the hatchet as a weapon I would really appreciate it. I don't want to start messing with settings on my own, as I am a writer, not a computer expert, and of I screw it up, my only option is to come back here and, yes, write about how I screwed it up. I don't the any of us want that. Thanks friends, and happy apocalypse to you all. -
Issue using hatchet, bandages and flashlight
LaurenDanger replied to LaurenDanger's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'm bumping it up in hopes that someone has a solution. One zombie hit and I died because the little green bandage bar would not go dark green so I could click it. Clicked madly on it anyway and nothing. And it means that I can't get an axe out of the tool belt once respawns yet again (peekaboo zombie killed my new spawn from behind a door). There has to be some setting I have wrong. Does anyone have any ideas for me? -
De-Evolution of the Human Race
LaurenDanger replied to apolyonic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Now I want zombies to be real, I'd finally be part of the one per cent! Okay I am kidding, I do not want there to be any kind of apocalypse or society changing event. But I do have some emergency preparedness supplies and I am sure I would last a few days at least. I'll die when I get bored and go out hunting zombies to solve the problem on my own. Sword in hand, that's the way to go. -
In the future we'll just plug the cable into the port near the base of the skull and your true self will load into the game. Right? No hiding who you are then. Perhaps a chance for a bit of respect, too. :)

Why does "Ruthless" PvP have to be part of it? PvP I get, but why ruthless? I am still holding on to my ideal of not shooting first and will keep doing that. The best way to win a fight is to avoid the fight in the first place. That's how I'm going to play it. Will I die a lot? Sure! Will I care? Probably not. Loot respawns, and so will I. Just because other players want to be jerks doesn't mean I have to play it the same way. ;) -
I made a second run of the northeast airfield tonight, avoided zombies, though I only found an extra AKM mag that I was willing to take. I had scouted around the town earlier, been chased by a zombie, everything seemed quiet and empty but for the restless dead. So after my excursion I am heading back, see a sheep, and figure that since I am down a bit on blood I can use the meat and I'll find matches at some point. There's a high pitched ricochet sound that is obviously a sniper rifle, and that's it for me. Knocked out, and then someone is firing round after round into my body to get me to die faster. I was so careful and sneaky navigating the airfield, but I was killed because I stopped for lamb chops! It's fine, though, the only regret I have is that I was carrying morphine and now I am not. Sneaky sniper on Seattle 10, my hat is off to you for a fine shot.
