[3:45 Video] Why I never go to big cities

Props for the classic ZAMN track.

    Why Day-Z Fails

OP: After reading the start of your post, I was expecting some intelligent criticism and suggestions. Instead what I got was complete drivel. We all know that the game is far from flawless, but your randomly hashed together complaints are both petty and useless. Spend less time formatting your post and more time coming up with something useful to say.

    let the hopper wars begin

Well why don't you put HER in charge?!? Good job guys, although it sounds like some of you all committed server hopping yourselves in order to kill server hoppers.
  4. For sure, ideally you'd have a whole host of potential threats to encounter (like the ones you listed). Right now people talk about the difficulty of PVE only in terms of how tough the in-town zombies are. There should be many more angles to the PVE experience. I like your rabid dog idea, I know there are dog models/AI in the game already. Maybe they could smell food on the survivors and selectively target players who have the most food... if you have 8 steaks in your backpack be prepared to defend it!
  5. Man Electrolyte your opening post is hilarious. I really agree with the spirit of what you are saying. Both the infected and the environment are forces that should be reckoned with. I agree that the focus of the game right now is too far away from survival. For many people it seems to be more about stockpiling military weapons and finding novel ways to slaughter noobs. The reason for this is that it is too easy to survive. Note that it shouldn't be impossible to survive, but the game should require that more time/effort be put into staying alive. Rocket has talked before about how much he likes 'layering' mechanics so that you have to worry about several things at the same time. Maybe there should be a few more things to worry about, like the armored bear that can break legs and spread pestilence from a mile away with his mighty bear call.

    Sniper Wars - the Lulz

This game is brutal, no doubt. There isn't anything stopping you from running into a group of fully kitted players who have experience with milsims and have tactical capabilities. There is no "balance" per say which guarantees everyone will have an equal opportunity to come out on top (for me, this is a plus to the game because when you achieve something you've really earned it). I think asking for sniper weapons to be removed is pretty extreme. I would say that some of the vision stuff like NVGs and Thermal are a little over-the-top, mainly because it does not seem to represent actual thermal and NVG vision. I've read comments from people on these forums saying that it isn't quite as easy to spot things in real life with this kind of equipment. But of course, it is always gonna be an argument between the haves and the have-nots - if you manage to get NVGs and thermal vision and ghillie suits, you will do all the hollering you can in the forums to ensure that they don't get "nerfed" or removed from the game.

    hilarious panicking..

That's great when people make a personality for themselves through direct chat. In the Gallery subforum someone posted a video of a guy with broken legs who was screaming his head off in an airfield. When approached, he'd call out to others for help and intermittently jam out on his guitar. I hope I run into one of these characters at some point.

  9. Poltergeists man, it might be one of those secret new features that was rolled out with the last update... vengeful spirits of dead Soborites coming back to haunt us all...
  10. Hahaha. Now that you mentioned it, I once crowbar-ed a rabbit to death. Had to smash it about 4 times to kill the poor bugger. I guess I was an 8 that day.
  11. I'm a mix of 2,3, and 4. I won't shoot if I'm behind cover and don't feel immediately threatened. I will try to communicate to say that I am friendly, but I do not ask to team up. Instead, I tell them that we should be cautiously aware of each other so that we can go our separate ways.

    Six Updater download issue

Yeah I use Worrom's, you have to install the beta yourself but it still updates DayZ just fine, and the newest version is made to work with beta.
  13. OP, I totally agree with your thoughts about the Ghillie suit. It should not make your backpack become invisible. At the very least it should show up like it does for other skins, and if you want better concealment you'll have to leave the uber-backpack behind. I imagine it works this way right now because the Arma Ghillie skin doesn't work with backpacks, or some inherent design issue like that .
  14. The dude barely has time to play, for chrissakes. If you are doing an interview for a big time PC gaming magazine you'll want the play experience to be as smooth as possible, and not have a 45 minute (or however long) segment terminated prematurely by some pasty-faced stream sniper.

    DayZ Stories

Wanted to say: HUGE thanks to some guy in Seattle 32 around 6 pm today, at NWAF. Pretty epic, yet short story: I made it to NW Airfield, and crept up into the Southwest barracks. My buddy got killed there earlier so I was planning on only hitting that one building then getting out. I've only been there once before and this may be enough for me. I get inside, and little is of value except for some AK ammo. In the last room in the barracks, I somehow alert a hopping zombie nearby. As the zombie hops his way around to the single entrance, I'm panicking because I don't want to alert nearby players and give away my location. I frantically throw my AK to the ground and get out my hatchet... When out of nowhere, as I watch through the barracks window, a random guy driving a blue minivan comes to a flying stop just outside! I watch him eject and haul ass over to the barracks I'm in, and he's carrying nothing but a axe! I quickly pick my AK back up because I'm expecting him to come for me. Instead, he runs inside, slays the hopping zed with a mighty axe swing, turns right around, and hops back into his van. Peeling out and zooming into the airfield, the stranger leads a massive zombie train off into the sunset, leaving the area clear for me to leave! Whether this was your intention or you just inadvertently saved me, you are my hero. You have also restored my faith in fellow DayZ players.

    Nothing Is Forever...

Yeah I don't really care about the Gucci Guns all that much, however I always wanted a SAW and I found a M249 at a crashed chopper! I was very pleased with my weapon. Never shot it at anyone though (I don't hunt players) and I got totally waylaid at Berezino and lost it all. I had more ammunition on my char than all my previous characters combined and I didn't even get a damn shot off at my attackers. Starting over after that was a worthwhile experience, and like the guy above me said, humbling.

    NWO GOT HACKED

Were you guys all doing cocaine right before it happened?
  19. I just made it there tonight with a buddy of mine. Ironically, several people tried to murder us as we made our way to the NWAF from Cherno, but we didn't meet any resistance at NWAF itself. Look at a map, make a plan for how to get there using treelines. Avoid open fields. Do not fire your gun - and if you have to, get the hell out of there ASAP (gunfire draws PK'ers like none other). Barracks have the best loot. Do not run across the airfield itself unless you want a quick trip back to the Southern beach. As a side note, the reward for our trouble was an Ak-47. Kind of disappointing, but that's the luck of the draw. And just in case you were expecting there to be sparkling halls lined with assault rifles and NVG's: the kinds of crazy yields you hear about from NWAF are typically clans or well-organized groups systematically humping the loot respawn all day long.

    Barbed Wire Getting Annoying

You are right. I like most things about DayZ, but I just can't handle its barbed wire and how realistic it is, so I'd best just quit. I'll try to avoid mods that have awesomely realistic barbed wire in the future.
  21. Situational awareness is crucial to having a positive interaction with other players IMO. If you pop up out of nowhere you are gonna surprise them, and it's blast or be blasted. If you spot another player, get behind cover and try to communicate with them. I've done it several times (using only direct text chat, Arma doesn't accept my mic). Let them know you are nearby and you don't want any trouble, but if they come too close you'll have to kill them (or however you want to handle it, but that's how I do it). Example: Entering Berezino, I used my binocs and saw two guys working alongside together and heading to the NW apartments. I then took a slow, careful approach towards the same apartments. By the time I got there, I saw one of them on a ledge outside a smaller apartment - I hustled over to the larger apartment right next door, got inside, and focused my gun on the door. I then proceeded to communicate with them. We had a friendly chat, and they said they were going on their way. No problems at all. But if I hadn't been careful, I might not have known they were there, and I might have gone hustling right into their building which would be deadly.
  22. Howdy, A fried of mine and I were trying to to equip hatchets as weapons last night. We would right click the hatchet in the tool zone, and select the option to put it in your inventory. However, it would always give us the same message - "Not enough space in your inventory" - regardless of what we had in our inventory. We both tried dumping all of our stuff, freeing up every possible space in inventory, with primary and secondary weapons dropped on the ground. Completely clean, free inventory. Still getting "Not enough space in inventory". We've tried dropping the hatchets to the ground and re-equipping them as well. Anyone got any protips about this? Would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Sneed
  23. Thanks for the help, but what I'm saying is that the remove from belt process is all jacked. I keep getting "Not enough space in inventory". Even if I have absolutely nothing in my inventory. I'm now wondering if this is a bug, since most people seem to have no issue at all with this, and yet some of us do. Edit: When you say remove from belt, do you mean by right clicking and selecting the option, or are you actually picking up the icon and dragging it over or something like that? Just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing here. Thanks!
