    Selling: Car Parts. Wanted: Tents

I saw that "selling" in the title and almost had a heart attack. Better use "trading" next time :p

    More FPS on Dayz

I sure could, and many people would. But I think the best approach is for you to sit down and inspect carefully what kind of components you have in your current desktop, make a list out of them, think about your budget carefully (new cpu, new mobo, new ram), and then, after gathering all that info, make a new thread in the computing section so people can see what you own, what can be used in a new system, and suggest components with as much as high price to performance ratio possible.

    Idea for preventing combat logging

Aren't 15 minutes (for full health) or 29 minutes (for low health) enough for you to reconnect and perform a normal logout if you sense there are serious problems with your connection?

    Hide Items

Would you roll/carry a car tire for a couple of miles? Towns with supermarkets should have shopping carts, and villages/farms/industrial sites wheelcarts. Problem solved. Obviously you shouldn't be able to run when pushing either of those, especially if something really heavy was inside (like a car engine).

    More FPS on Dayz

Don't mean to be a party pooper but. . 1) Your processor is probably this one and you want to upgrade to this one. The one you own is made for LGA775 socket, the other one for LGA1150. This means you'll also have to upgrade your motherboard. 2) I'm pretty sure the system you own now has DDR2 RAM. The new one is 99% going to have DDR3 support only. Therefore you'll have to buy new RAM also. lol ninjad. that should teach me to do other things while replying.

    DayZ Mod 1.8.0.3 Hotfix.

Dropping stuff inside buildings, especially barracks has this effect. Once I lost a full backpack this way. They seem to fall under the floor. Always drop stuff out in the open.
  7. I'm also using the non-steam version and I have no problems at all. DayZ Commander official site.

    Idea for preventing combat logging

This is a thread about combat-logging. Combat-logging = alt+F4, disconnecting the network cable, closing the router/computer, etc. All of these actions are disconnecting you from the server instantly, without having to go through a proper logout action. You are talking about normal logouts, pressing escape, waiting for timer, abort, etc. So we are talking about different things.

    GPS and Waypoints

KoS you've got it mixed up in your head.We are talking about GPS systems here, not A-GPS used in mobile phones, neither D-GPS. Normal GPS doesn't need antennas, towers or anything. And since I posted, let me say that waypoints should be removed. We have a map, we have a compass, we have a GPS receiver. We really don't need magical arrows.

    Idea for preventing combat logging

So are playing normally, fighting zeds/looting some town village. Suddently you get disconnected for some reason of all those already mentioned. Till you manage to reboot/reset your router/just reconnect into the game you'll be already raped by zeds. That's why. It happened to you once. And it happens to everybody at some point, but it is not something that happens on a daily basis. If you have read my post you'd see I also have problems, and as a matter of fact there are power outages lasting more than 30 minutes. But they don't occur oftenly. Also for someone to lose his connection for half an hour means there is some serious problem with his line, probably triggered by some external factor, it's not a daily occuring thing. So spare me, we all have problems once in a while. I can't understand whay you're saying. Rephrase/explain if there is some point. Meh. You didn't read my post. Come on, be honest. Let me quote myself for a change.

    Idea for preventing combat logging

It's not just unstable connections people. There are other factors too, for example: 1) Dynamic IPs. Many ISPs give dynamic IPs to clients, which are renewed every couple of days. So I could be playing, my router being with the same IP for 2 days, and midgame it chooses to renew my IP. Disconnect, reconnect, new IP. Disconnected from game. 2) Power outages. Where I live they are quite common, usually last for a couple of seconds/minutes, but that's enough for the router to go off and/or the pc. And no, I don't have at the time 300 euros to spend on a good UPS. 3) Random computer crashes. Could be Arma/DayZ SA, could be some program running in the background, some updater gone mad, etc. I'm pretty sure there are also other factors which I have no idea about. I'd really hate it if I lost my character because of one of the above reasons. I'm all in for fighting combat-logging, but not at the expense of legit players. Edit to add suggestion So, I just had an epiphany. I think there is potential in what I'm about to propose. Goal: Make combat-logging non eficient in such a way that people will actually prefer to fight for their lives than combat-log. At the same time we must protect legit players with above problems. System layout: When someone joins a server, this server is stored in his personal "space" on the public hive database. Let's say our guy meets with another player and decides to combat log via alt+F4. As soon as this is done, the time he disconnects (or more appropriately drops) from the server is stored in the public hive database. At this point a timer kicks in. Said guy has 15 minutes to reconnect on the specific server he disconnected from. He is unable to join any other public hive server. After 15 minutes his blood level falls to half of the amount he had at the time he disconnected. After 20 minutes his blood level falls to like 500 (just very low, no fainting). At 30 minutes his character dies. This way, if I encounter you and I combat-log, you know the exact location I disconnected, you can camp there for 15 minutes and shoot me as soon as I join. The more time I don't log on the less chances I have to survive, since my blood drops as time passes. Legit players facing any of the above problems still have 15 minutes to save their character in full health, and 29 to just save it. Plenty of time for a reboot, a router reset, and for minor power outages to go away. Obviously there should be some extra checks too from the public hive. Checking if the server is up, if it's full or not, etc. If the server is down, then a different approach should be implemented. If it's full it should give you more time. Anyhow, these are details, which can be solved methinks. Of course this can be exploited too. The combat-logger could get on TS and call his buddies, them coming with vehicles and all and killing you in less than 29 minutes. Then he logs on again, gets a transfusion and keeps on playing. But I think it's better than nothing. If this and a more aggressive legit log-out (abort) system (for instance, 30sec timer for abort option to appear, and then a 50-100 meter radius check for any moving creature -could be another player, a zed, a rabbit, a boar, a goat etc-) I think we'd see combat-log levels fall drastically.

    Ping problem.

It's probably one of the following. 1) You are sharing your line/connection with others, could be family, could be neighbors using your wifi. Those others are using p2p downloaders, watching youtube HD videos etc. 2) You are downloading something in the background (p2p, win updates, program updates, etc). 3) You have a virus downloading/uploading stuff to some guy in some basement. 4) Your ISP has a temporary problem with their routing/connection to backbones, or it just jucks. 5) Your router has some kind of hardware problem or it's setup with wrong parameters (not very likely). 6) You are trying to play a quite demanding game in terms of data exchange between server-clients with a 33.6 kbps dialup modem :p

    Ping problem.

1000 ms ping? Do you live in China and play on US servers? Anyhow, ping should be below 100 for a nice experience. Try finding a server located closer to you, or asking your ISP why your line sucks if it's not a matter of distance.

    Dayz Fps and lag

I'm playing on a c2d 3.16ghz system with 4gb of ram (3.6 since I use winxp) and a 2gb version of 6950 gpu and using high settings with all extras disabled (AA, postprocessing, HDR, etc). On empty servers I usually get 60 FPS (I have vsync enabled), on low pop servers 50 and in full servers it becomes almost unplayable, 30 fps and lots of lag/desync. And I'm not talking about different servers where other factors also should be taken into account. For example, I join a server which is empty at the time and I get 60 FPS, and no lag at all. So I keep playing and more people join, the more people the bigger my FPS drop and lag. With 10 people it's stil ok, with 30 and more it's not. So it's not just you. I'm not sure how exactly the spawning and the whole data exchange thing between clients and the server works, so I can't answer you why this happens from a technical standpoint. Maybe it's the fact that more people = more zeds, more vehicles moving, more loot spawn points, more calculations. Fact is, it does happen to a lot of us, and for me the only viable solution for now is to play on low pop servers so my eyes don't hurt from the bad FPS and zeds don't desync and hit me after I've killed them, or changing from a rifle to a melee weapon takes 30secs.
  16. You know there are US airforce bases in multiple countries right? You also know there are many USS aircraft carriers roaming the international waters right? Anyhow, it's not something I suggested, I just explained what OP was talking about. It all comes down to the story behind the infection, if it's worldwide, if it's contained in some countries, continents, etc.
  17. You all missed his point. If you remember the 28 days later film, when the guy escapes from the british military guys who were ready to execute him, he falls down to his back and stares at the sky, hopeless and tired. And then he sees a concorde (I think) flying over him at a really high altitude. It was not a british aircraft (the film is taking place in britain for those who haven't watched it), it was some airplane from another country, doing a transatlantic flight. Also near the ending there are military jets (not british) doing recon flights. So under a similar situation (the whole country is overun by zeds/quarantined, but other countries/islands are not) one would see commercial airplanes making trips and military jets doing recon flights. I'm not saying I like or don't like this idea, just trying to explain his suggestion concerning US/Russian airplanes flying above Chernarus.
  18. Short story. Yesterday I was playing on a vanilla private hive. Had an m16a2 equipped with three mags, a glock with 4 mags, antis, morphine, food water, etc. Suddently I come behind some survivor equipped with a machete, repairing a car. I could have shot him easily but I didn't although he had a czech backpack and I had just an ACU. So I turn around some building, equip my hatchet, and start taking out zeds to clear the area. Said guy, comes around shoots me in the leg (I didn't understand it at the moment, though it was a zed), I fall down broken leg and all, still I manage to kill all zeds. This guy us waiting for me to bleed out, gets bored, comes and shoots me in the head. Found my corpse when I respawned, only thing he took were the antis and the mags. Did he kill me because he was afraid I'd kill him? Nope, I had the chance to do it and I didn't. Did he kill me for my gear? Nope. Did he kill me cause he was a bandit? Nope, he had a survivor skin and having a car and good gear means he was playing for some time. Anyhow, I'm saying this just to prove that there were, there are, and there will always be people who KOS for no apparent reason, and that there are also people which will not KOS even if that means they might get stabbed in the back. So OP and the whole "I kill not to get killed" excuse is pure garbage. Be a man and at least say you enjoy KOS, nothing wrong with that, bandits are a necessary part of DayZ. But generalising and saying everyone is KOS so you have no choice but to KOS too is pretty low.
  19. Well, in order to understand how the whole server thing works first you must understand the concept of server hives. A server hive is a group of servers, spread around the world possibly, all sharing the same database. That's where your character gets saved, all your gear, all your stats. So when playing on a server which is part of a hive, if this server goes down you can instantly join another one also part of that hive and you'll keep on playing from the point you logged off the previous server. The official DayZ mod servers (called vanilla usually) are part of the public hive. There are hundreds (or thousands) of them, all around the world, all sharing the same database. They are not owned by the developers, BIS or any company. They are owned and maintained by normal people/communities/clans, as long as they obey some rules. No modifying, not adding vehicles/weapons, no admin abuse etc. You can read how server naming shows its location/features here. Private servers on the other hand are servers not part of the public hive, usually not part of any hive (there are some private hives though), each one having its own database. So if you are playing on a private one and it shuts down because the owner ran out of money or time to maintain it then you are instantly losing your character/progress/gear. Of course there are pros too when it comes to private servers, this way you can be playing with the same people if you like coop, you can have multiple avatars/characters (you can be playing as a hero on one and as a bandit on another) etc. Private servers can be either vanilla DayZ mod, DayZ mod with tweaks and additions (scripts, addons, extra features), another mod based on DayZ mod, another map etc. For more info on different mods of DayZ mod and different maps you can go here and scroll down to "DayZ Mods" and "Additional Maps". It's a bit outdated but you'll understand the difference of mods and maps. You can download all of these extra mods and maps with DayZ Commander. I know nothing about roleplaying.
  20. It used to crash on me every 15-20 minutes (give or take) of playing with an error saying "Arma has encountered an error" or something similar. It wouldn't launch after that, so I had to reboot to keep on playing. I started messing with settings, and as soon as I disabled shadows it never crashed again. I'm using xp sp3, on a c2d 3.16ghz on medium-high settings all extras disabled (AA, post processing etc).

    DayZ Mod 1.8.0.3 Hotfix.

That is a tough one to solve. Lately I've been having the same problem. I'm in a town looting, and if a helicopter just passes above said town my FPS drop and it sometimes looks like a cartoony frame by frame animation. I don't mind the zeds they spawn, it's the massive framedrop which almost makes it not possible to defend yourself against another player. This situation is causing players to run away so their FPS improve, or just camp with a rifle somewhere waiting/scouting for other players which I think is leading to more KoS.
  23. Well, most of these ideas have been already suggested and discussed. Also why so big fonts? Made me feel like I was 80 years old.

    Slower Walking Animation

Slower walking? Nope. Dynamic stamina system dependent on nutrition/hydration, encumbrance, fatigue, health. Hell yeah.
