If I recall correctly there was a problem with the new spawn-selection feature. In a few words it wouldn't work along the gender selection screen. So maybe that's it, they disabled the gender selection screen in order for the spawn selection to work. I could be wrong though. Check this and this post. Apparently it'll get fixed on 1.8.1 as it says here. Until then, patience.

Exactly. I've been murdered/betrayed/shot in the back after a nice "friendly friendly" in chat more times by survivors than bandits. Shit, I've even teamed up with bandits and guess what, they didn't try to kill me at all. I too consider survivors more dangerous than bandits. I commited my first murder last week. I've just been killed by one survivor and one bandit, trying to get to my corpse and as soon as I got back I found a survivor in the area. I remained hidden, but he had to come over, so I did fire a couple of rounds at him with my g17.

I'm pretty sure eveyone would like to see some kind of a small single engine plane in DayZ but you must not forget pipers and cessnas are made in the US. So maybe a small Yakovlev would be a better approach. Especially a 70ies-80ies model, nothing too modern and hitech. Something like the YAK-18T (4-5 seat) or the YAK-52 (2 seat). When it comes to floats I think an AN-4 would be better. It's basically an AN-2 with floats. So it'll be much easier for the dev team to just add floats to the already present model in the game.

[New Mod] Quarantine (or DayZ Quarantine)
h3l1x replied to purplish's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Anaconda gold? Seriously? There are many variations you could have used, red dot sights, telescopic sights, realtree finish. Google them up. But a golden one? Meh. Also, a somewhat silly question. From what I've read, you've already made one mod called "Civilian" and now you're working on another mod called "Quarantine". So you do have the time and the know-how to work on a mod. Well if this is not an attempt to gain fame or make money, then why don't you volunteer to help with the vanilla mod instead of starting numerous other mods? What I mean is, the vanilla needs work. Think for a bit if all people like yourself worked on it. It'd be 10 times better. Not to mention the community wouldn't be scattered across 50 other mods. Not criticizing, just expressing my thoughts. -
First of all, the title is wrong. A hive is more than one servers sharing the same database. So private DayZ hives consist of multiple servers, not just one. Server hopping/ghosting/teleporting is still possible there. What OP is talking about are private servers. I'm playing currently both on public hive and on one-two private servers and each has it's own advantages. But I have to point out something. For people that want to survive for days/weeks/months, private servers involve a big risk. Waking up one day to find out it's gone. Could be the admin got bored with DayZ, he ran out of money, he got a life. So you could be playing for months, gearing up only to lose it all because the server is no more. This risk is not present in public hive, whatever happens, no matter how many servers go down, you'll still have your character and all the gear you carry. And another thing. Whenever an update is released, most private servers take their time to implement it. This can be translated to a few days, a few weeks, a month, etc. Some people may not care, but if one has a tight schedule like a job or university courses then even one lost evening/weekend counts.

Sometimes I scare myself. I posted this ten days ago. And no, I've never played any mod except vanilla and had no idea there were actual tanks. Scary.

If this was in the off-topic section, then yes, I'd reply to you in a psiloshophical way, but it's not. I'm not here to discuss what freedom is or how I perceive it, you, or someone else does. Neither to talk about flying. There is a topic and this is zed kids in DayZ. I was being specific when using the words freedom and such. I did provide arguments, examples, and metaphors. In case you missed my points you can read again my post.
-
Did you even bother to read what I've just said? Seriously now, did you? I talked about people "not being able to handle the freedom". People who have no limits, who will abuse stuff for personal gain, trolling, ego, fame, griefing, etc. People that need someone to supervise them because they are unable to be responsible for their actions and the future consequenses. There are many of them. If you think people are already enlightented/mature enough to appreciate true total freedom then this is your opinion. There are legal/copyright/ratings/banning and other kinds of factors involved concerning both the spraypaint feature and the zed kids feature. And to be more specific. Freedom is not doing whatever you want. Freedom is doing whatever you want AND not harming/causing damage to someone else. Under the legal/justice system we have, there are rules to be followed. I am free to choose how to live my own life, but I'm not free to enter your house and take your computer. Same thing here. We should be free to do whatever we wanted in the game, BUT if I started spraypainting your mom's personal phonenumber all over cherno I should be banned. Can you grasp now the difference between freedom with boundaries and total freedom? Was that really hard to understand? No. You just had to post something that looked clever.
-
First of all, topics about head on spikes and stuff are not relevant with this thread. This forum is full of idiotic suggestions, let's not get into that. Second, so there are some immature guys which will abuse this feature. So what? Exactly the same complaint is present in the spraypaint thread "people will start drawing penises all over, so it's a no go". Ok then, let's leave all the brilliant features out of the game because 300 people are douchebags and can't handle the freedom of a game. Well, not. NOT. This game has potential, and it must evolve. I've already suggested a logging system concerning spraypaint abuse on that thread. Douchebags can be punished, we shouldn't be punished because we want a deep game.

I think you are missing the point. It's not about wanting to kill kids, but wanting to have to moral dilemma and the guilts after killing them. What do I mean by that. Personally I see DayZ as a social experiment, a medium that brings out someone's emotions/instincts. No rules, no scripted events, it's you and the world, you are choosing your path. Decisions, instincts, fear, excitement, loyalty/betrayal, guilts, cautiousness/carelessness, etc. All these emotions are the core, the driving force of DayZ. Let me give you an example from another game. Have you played Bioshock? Do you remember the little sisters? You were given two choices, either harvesting them (killing them, getting all their blood) or saving them (getting a very small amount of blood). Personally I couldn't go on and harvest them. It was just wrong for me. And this is exactly why there should be zed kids (and player models) in DayZ. So people have a hard time killing them, being forced to either die or flee. Do you understand what I'm saying? I don't want to kill kids in DayZ but I want them in the game for the psychological pressure they'll bring and all the other moral implications.

[SA] or [MOD]: Move the HUD to your inventory screen
h3l1x replied to BC_Hawke's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Very nice idea OP, have some beans. -
I'm not a programmer neither a game developer but I'm pretty sure there are ways. For example, use really dense (coloured) bulletholes as spray cannister output. Make them not disappear in a few seconds, but at another timed interval (or on server restart), done. What does this take? Duplicating the bullethole model, one time for each different spray color, registering the spray cannister as a weapon shooting centered -not damaging- bullets like an mg, creating a different profile for such bulletholes so they remain ingame for X amount of time. Doesn't seem like an incredible hard task to me. Also concerning the logging/reporting system, all it takes is a system that registers said bulletholes and copy/pastes them onto a transparent dynamic png uploaded on the database. Or even easier, just register their x,y,z axes' positions as values and having one app which admins would use, taking these values and painting them locally on demand, so they can check out every reported painting.

Well, copyrighted songs and the involvement of RIAA/MPAA isn't something relevant me thinks. Say I draw my version of guernica. Or some big company logo as a matter of fact. Who's going to sue me? It's my depiction of something. My own creation. I didn't steal it, neither I'm making profit out of it. I think this kind of situations can be easily avoided by the logging system I just proposed. Although, one penis shouldn't be such a reason. I mean it's ok to have some kind of supervision, but not strictly so people can't be creative. And I'm not saying drawing penises is creative, I'm just afraid that if this kind of supervision gets too strict then there'll be too many rules and complaints and it'll all go to hell. The mods will get their hands full all the time and finally will just disable the feature and say "well we can't keep doing this".

Freehand only, CS style spray/tag images would ruin the immersion.Nope, freehand only.Walls, billboards/sings, roads, treebarks. Vehicles would be sweet too.No restrictions. Maybe rain would wash them away. Or crafting = gasoline + rug = You can erase them.Offending maybe, but illegal drawing? Can't see what defines an illegal drawing. Anyhow, maybe a system could be implemented so everytime you spray paint on a surface this gets logged/saved somewhere in the database (as a transparent texture with paint on it) along with your guid. So if someone sees something offending/illegal there could be a place to report it. Admins/mods would check it out, give a warning for starters, second warning, then I dunno, suspend your guid for like one month. And if you keep doing it then permaban.

Brand new computer, and i get the same frames as my old computer
h3l1x replied to falphaugh's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Server and server polulation plays a big role too. I'm playing on a c2d E8500 @ 3.16ghz with a 2gb version 6950 (sapphire reference with unlocked shaders), and 4gb ddr2 ram (3.6, since I use winxp) and on empty servers I get 60 fps easily (vsync enabled). As more people join the server my fps drop. With more than 20-30 people my framerare falls to 20-30, also lag/desync, unplayable to me. I'm playing on high settings all extras disabled (shadows, AA, PPE, HDR, etc). Could be the server, could be your settings, could be anything really. You just have to find the sweet spot for your settings, so more load is put on the cpu than the gpu. -
Back when I first started playing Arma used to crash on me every 20 minutes or so. So I found this random stranger, we teamed up and headed to NWAF. I must have crashed like 5 times during this session, and every single time this guy would wait patiently still where I got disconnected for me to rejoin. He also shared everything he had, bloodbags, bandages, food/drinks, etc. Another time, I remember teaming up with some german guy in a bandit skin (he said it was on defence), found a car, picked him up, and we rode around the north looking for heli crashes. When I got tired and had to log off I told him to keep the car but he didn't want it. About a month ago in stary some stranger gave me a gps he'd just found.

He's just trying to advertise his server, don't pay attention. Same thing here, and here. No matter what the thread is about, epoch is the solution :P

More info required in order for someone to actually be able help you. 1) Did you buy Arma 2/Operation Arrowhead and if so where from? 2) Did it use to work properly? You were playing DayZ online fine and one day this happened? Or did you just buy and installed Arma2/Operation Arrowhead? 3) Where did you download Dayz Commander from? 4) What version of Arma 2 do you have right now?

I thought silenced weapons were supposed to be rare?
h3l1x replied to xoiio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just to save people the hassle, OP is not interested in vanilla. As you can read on the other threads he's started, here and here, he just got the game to play sp and spawn whatever he fancies to shoot zeds. Also titles in said threads are somewhat contradictive. First there's the "this game feels too hard" (although he found multiple hummers and a truck with an mg, obviously not talking about vanilla), then the "oh well, I thought things were supposed to be rare" still not talking about vanilla, and god knows what kind of bastardised mod/private server he's reffering to. So OP, in the future make sure to mention what kind of game you're playing, so people can actually understand what you're talking about. There are many mods, many private servers with different settings and extra features, so saying "this game feels hard, the army tank I just found doesn't have a laser cannon" is not only confusing to those bothering to answer your questions, but it's also pointless. And to answer the title, yes SD weapons in DayZ are rare, and SD ammo even rarer. But you are not playing DayZ, you are playing on modified servers full of extra stuff, some of which are not even present (not talking about rarity) in DayZ. -
Before criticizing one should get his facts straight. Zeds are more dangerous than before, yes. Now they actually somewhat pose a threat. Before these changes they were just a mere annoyance, and this was wrong, since DayZ is supposed to be a zombie survival simulator/game. Infection is much rarer on 1.8.0.3, and also now there are antiseptic wipes which can prevent infection so you don't actually need antibiotics. All this time I've been playing on 1.8.0.3 I've only got infected once, used some wipes, no need for antis (I've found multiple wipes and 1 antis). Also you seem to think infection is the zombie virus. Well it's not, it's a simple bacterial infection, which if left untreated leads to sickness and eventually death. As for medical loot, I'm still finding morphine, epi-pens, blood bags in hospitals (medboxes are back) mainly -although a few days ago I found morphine in a firehouse-, so maybe you are looking in the wrong places. Oh and btw I'm also playing solo, and I can manage fine (without bloodbags/vehicles/stashes/tents and general support). If it weren't for people shooting me on sight I'd survive for years on this system :P

You don't need to have AI in order to have (dangerous) random events. There could be lightning storms on rainy days, falling trees/electricity poles on windy days, forest/urban fires on hot days, etc. Also poisonous snakes, wild dogs/foxes with rabies, packs of wolves, bears, you get the idea. PVE has so much potential.
-
Also new inventory UI, F1-F12 keys are finally unbound, weapon carry slot (now you can have equipped both a main weapon and a melee one and change either with 1,2,3 keys or with scroll menu), harder zeds and infection.
