A more realistic CAMPFIRE ingredients that is already available in game
h3l1x replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That's what I was about to say. You want to make building fires more difficult? Have some dynamic variable so when it rains all wood becomes moist for a couple of hours and it's almost impossible to start a fire without adding some gasoline for example. Also true that moist/fresh wood produces much more smoke than dried up/dead wood. Also a nice idea would be rain putting off the fire. Or even strong winds. But for balancing reasons one should be able to make fires inside every enterable building (maybe with a chance the whole building goes up in flames, but that would need a lot of dev work and I'm sure it would get exploited much). -
Help! New player coming from the SA, have got a question for you veterans :)
h3l1x replied to kayotte's topic in New Player Discussion
Well, first you have to understand the difference between official public hive servers and private servers (could be part of a private hive, or not). Official public hive servers are all linked into a central official database where all "saves" (character data, gear, progress, position on the map) are stored, Not vehicles and tents though, these items are server specific. So every time you join a public hive server you continue with your character. Private servers are not linked to this database, each one has its own database, usually are modded (1000 vehicles, self-bloodbags, added buildings etc) so each time you play on one, your progress is stored in its own database. Only by joining the same server you can continue with your character. Sad thing is that there are a few (last time I checked, which was long ago, so I could be wrong) public hive servers which are modded. Anyhow, try to filter servers with DayzCommander, check hide unofficial, check hide wrong arma/mod versions, look for servers starting with lets say US349 or UK283 depending on your location (random numbers, just showing you the naming scheme) stating in the server name "official" or "public hive" and you should be alright. Be sure to try multiple servers, because server lag and framerates fluctuate heavily. So try a few, see which one suits you, and stick to it. Also beware of server hoppers, people spawning in high loot areas from other servers, praying on other people. Epoch is a mod based on DayZ mod, with some additions, like base building, safes (I think) etc. You can read more about it here. Welcome to the mod. -
There are already dozens of FPV vs TPV threads. Most of them got locked, for a reason. Concerning the famous dslyecxi video, back then I took some time to upload some caps from said video. FPV field is not the same as the TPV field. Look especially the cap in front of the house.

Need an Admin here..what the hell just happened?

Now it actually makes sense. The wrecked ship is the Amistad. -
Werewolves are fictional hybrids of humans and wolves. I'm pretty sure there won't be any werewolves in DayZ, zeds are more than enough. As to wildlife, I recall reading on some rocket's quotes that PvE is going to be implemented but obviously sometime down the development long long long road. So don't hold your breath for it.

As others have already said, you are losing all the adrenaline of exploring and discovering new places. In a couple of weeks you'll know the map by heart, you'll end up bored, and resort to KOS as the only thing left to do.
-
Anyone tried or knows if it runs on winxp?
-
This is the DayZ mod section gallery. There's a gallery thread at the DayZ standalone section too.
-
Then again, people will get tired of surviving and fixing vehicles and stuff and will also end up KOSing. Same story with the mod. Not much to do, lets KOS. Veteran player, already explored the map and geared up, lets KOS. It'll always be like that people.

Cable car, Aerial tramway, Gondola lift (same thing, different names)

Another suggestion for a new vehicle type. Didn't find anything related suggested already after searching so here we go. I'm talking about this system utilizing small cabins, transporting people up and down mountains. Some run on petrol, others on electricity, so one could either fuel them up, or fuel up a power generator once they are implemented. Also I think it would suit Chernarus, if it's made a bit old fashioned, some rust on the cabins, etc. Pic following, more pics here. It may seem to some as useless since it has a fixed location and a predestined route, but I think it would add lots of fun in DayZ. Imagine having the chance to go up and down a really high mountain in one of these cabins, thinking one could start shooting at you, or stop the power generator, turn off the main engine, and trap you midair (yes this is exploitable but I'm sure the devs will figure it out somehow). Or pulling the emergency brake, stopping the cabin, and starting shooting down at people. Just try to imagine the view, and being able to move inside these cabins while they travel slowly along the steel cables. Not to mention, this usually works with two cabins, when one goes down the other goes up, so in the middle of the cables' length the cabins meet each other. More encounters midair. Also imagine hearing the cables squeaking and the air blowing while you're hanging there. Or watching cabins moving during nighttime, everything is pitch black and you see small lights 100 meters above your head. Now, don't get me wrong, I know that modelling, texturing, coding, tweaking such a project is a lot of work. It's more of a luxury suggestion, I strongly feel though it'd worth making. Feel free to share thoughts/ideas/suggestions but also try to keep the thread clean please. -
It is a simulator after all.

I'm still laughing, not cause of the image but that message.

I thought gearing up was supposed to be hard in standalone, yet one day after release you're all equipped with endgame gear?

"Confirmed" DayZ weapons, and ideas
h3l1x replied to thedogfoodyayho's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like to see slingshots and slings. For slingshots, the usual handheld Y type with the rubber thingie. You could find one ready at a store, or craft one with a few parts. For ammo one could use either stones or steel balls (bearings) -better accuracy, more damage- found in places with industrial loot. Good accuracy in small distances, low damage -except in case of headshot, where one could fall unconscious or even bleed to death. For slings, crafting, piece of cloth, or rope etc. Ability to launch larger things, big rocks and stuff, longer reach, worse accuracy than the slingshot (if a skill system through repetition gets implemented then one should have better accuracy with each successful hit with the sling). Pics for reference in spoiler. Oh, and before anyone argues they'd be useless in such a situation, take a moment and think about it. Say you have no guns, no crossbows, nothing. What's the easiest ranged weapon to aquire/craft yourself? A slingshot/sling. Also it's not about PVP, it'd also be useful against zeds. Say you are near a zed which has not aggroed yet. Shoot it in the head with the sling/slingshot so it falls down, then run over and kill it. Also the ammo availability, stones, bearings, rocks, so easy to find. Not to mention one could use it to distract players/zeds by shooting projectiles on various surfaces to make noise. -
You say "I honestly love finding small bugs" but there are massive bugs for the time being. For example having two instances of your character spawning at the same time, both controlled by you in real time. Or the server handling multiple people without crazy ass inventory lag. They're just trying to make the server somewhat reliable, not fixing small bugs.

Wrong. Buzzards are medium/large birds of prey, aka hunters, like hawks, eagles, falcons, etc. Vultures are usually larger, not hunters but scavengers, they eat the carcasses of large mammals.
-
Well, apart from the lack of mention of scavengers/vultures and the fact that vampire bats only live in the US and in tropical/subtropical areas, it kinda looks good.

What is 1 clothing item that you would want in DAYZ
h3l1x replied to thedeathstroke's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ponchos (raincoats) in multiple colours and patterns. I know it's gonna be a bitch to make but it has to be ingame to protect one from rain and stuff. -

I'll just leave this here.

Hundreds of men in white lab coats spawning?
h3l1x replied to Ironwolf21's topic in New Player Discussion
Same here. Good to know it wasn't just me. -
Being able to choose where you spawn sucks.
h3l1x replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Does that mean there's a chance it'll be fixed in an upcoming major update (say 1.9.0), or since it got implemented already at this state it's just as is and we move on? Edit: Yup, I know the spawn system works, I'm asking about the actual spawn limits which weren't implemented as intended. -
Perfectly said. Have my beans.
