    Uh actually I'd take one strap off and unzip it while walking and reach in real quick, I did this at school all the time for my phone. But that detail is a little excessive on animators so its no big deal. I just don't want them to need to be taken off, this would be a drag and drop simulator 2014

    That wont limit much outside of texture resolution, usually 1GB is enough unless you want to use very high detailed textures
  3. I love how dark night is because it stops people from gamma cheating, but the issue is it lasts way too long. Night is a fun challenge, but maybe if the day/night cycles werent so long itd be less frustrating. Nothing says apocalypse like a blackout Also sync all servers to the same day/night cycle (but make the cycle be 3 hours day 3 hours night) because switching to another server when your server gets dark is just as bad as spawn swapping

    And that is not good at all. GPU's are built for this, if they're not going to use it its a slap in the face.

    None of this is insulting Rocket. Rocket is a game developer not an engine tech programmer, there is a difference.

    I play on lowest as it is, turning some settings up has no change on my fps so I just turn them up. When I play games I always start on lowest and start going up by whats the most important to me. For example shadows disabled and shadows very high has no hit for me.

    They're under the same studio and are very similar engines. BiS has a terrible history with performance which is why I'm concerned for DayZ. ALOT of new people are coming into the game and if this clunkyness isn't ironed out soon theyll all part ways. 30k players at once is amazing, but not for long. People who aren't used to Arma aren't going to like it at all. And "get used to it" is not a good thing to tell people when DayZ/Arma is the odd one out If the existing code was working we'd all be running the game very well.

    What on earth are you talking about ~ Frell Bohemia has a terrible track record with performance, at this point it isn't insulting because its technically true. They can make games but when it comes to engine development they've been called incompetent a few times.

    I expected this from the start and told people so they don't get their hopes up. Its a shame its semi-confirmed to be a core issue. Surely the money coming in from DayZ can make Bohemia afford to try and speed it up?

  21. I wish everyone was forced to endure a little bit of night time. 3-6hrs seems the best for a day length and then sync all servers. Night time is definitely a fun challenge but not when it lasts too long.

    Distance in game engines is arbitrary, just because its far in human units doesn't mean its harder to render. It has to do with WHAT is being rendered and thats exactly what this thread is about. Just in case you aren't familiar with how LOD works, just because you see a house in the distance doesn't mean its super detailed. It's actually swapped out with a VERY low detailed model that looks like a cardboard box until you get close.

    Did you watch the documentary PS2 did on optimization? And I'm worried if DayZ will 'really' be optimized. I saw Arma 3 go from alpha to release with no performance increase despite all the complaints. It's obvious its an issue at the core of the engine and they couldn't afford to backtrack, but maybe the millions DayZ has dragged in can change that. You don't see the entire map at once. Modern engines hide stuff not in sight to keep performance up, and there are many ways to do this. Don't ever let someone make you believe DayZ is "too big" to run smooth. It's avoiding the real issues, it's almost 2014 and engine tech has come a long way.
