Help with PROPER install instructions for STEAM

So can I run DAYZ with an ICON or something from my desktop without having to launch Steam and click PLAY on AO Beta? That works, but I want to exclude Steam if it's possible. btw, I moved everything to a different hdd successfully.

Help with PROPER install instructions for STEAM

Yea, BattleEye was installed when I ran OA the first time. Which fixed that issue. I was wondering also, I have Steam on a portable 500gb harddrive. If I want to change my OS, when I reinstall Steam, won't it overwrite the folder it's in now and erase all of my games in the common folder? I just want to replace Vista with 7. Maybe I can just run the Steam exe from the portable hdd. But wouldn't the app need to be installed into the OS? I'm trying to avoid redownloading/installing all of my Steam games. This is another reason I put it on the portable hdd, so I wouldn't have to worry about this.

Help with PROPER install instructions for STEAM

OK well, I just copied the dayz file in the KEYS folder that came with the @DAYZ files. Obviously I moved the @DAYZ folder too. Everything seems to be working! And without the 3gp.performance error I always got as soon as I launch the game from desktop :) However just a side question. When I ran ARMA II first, it said mygamename WAS BANNED in the bottom right corner above the version # on the ARMA II main screen. I was freaking out. But when I closed it, ran OA first time, it installed BATTLEEYE. And after I finished the steps, it didn't say I was banned anymore. I suppose that's because I had no battle eye? Anyways, seems to working good now, except my is still crap!! lol thank you so much for your help and I'm sure i might have a few more questions!!

Hey, I'm at the part where you say "copy the DAYZ files to steam\blahblah\OA\@DAYZ In the zip file that you linked, there is the @DAYZ folder yes, but there is also a KEYS folder. You didn't say anything about moving a keys folder. So why would it be included if it's not needed? Unless u want me to add the KEYS contents to the KEYS folder in steam\common\blahblah\OA\@DAYZ or somewhere.

Help with PROPER install instructions for STEAM

People are telling me that I don't need to install the beta patch!! lol And that it is normal to get the NO ENTRY PATHNAME\file 3gp_performance That is the main reason why I'm uninstalling so I can remove that 3gp error and maybe fix my framerate!!

And Nih, I'm gonna head out for an hour but when I get back I'm gonna continue my installation. Remember, I have downloaded/installed ARMA II and OA through Steam, and nothing else. That is where I plan to continue when I get home. So when you say "install Beta patch" in your steps you mean through Steam just like I installed the first 2?

Help with PROPER install instructions for STEAM

Hey, to save time, in case I want to reinstall again. Can I make copies of the folders in the Steam/apps/common or whatever path they're installed to? Basically, I install all my Steam stuff onto a 500gb portable drive. I currently have ARMA II AND OA downloaded and installed through Steam. I haven't touched the Beta part yet as that's the part I have stated repeatedly, I am scared of. So could I copy the two folders and make copies? That way, if I ever reinstall, I can just delete the messed up versions and replace with the default ARMA II and OA from scratch without downloading for 7 hours again? Get it? thanks It's just to save time in case I screw up the DAYZ/beta installation from the point I'm at now. Thanks

Help with PROPER install instructions for STEAM

Here is, yet again, another confusing tip: NOW BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING DONT FORGET TO LAUNCH ARMA 2, ARMA 2: OPERATION ARROWHEAD, AND ARMA 2: OPERATION ARROWHEAD BETA FROM YOUR STEAM (or retail place thingy) TO VALIDATE STUFF, AND THAT'S IT'S ALL UP AND RUNNING AND STUFF! So, this guide is telling me to run/install it from Steam (the patch).
  9. I know a lot about Photoshop, but obviously not enough if someone made that in Photoshop. Where do they get the zombies? Where do they get the survivors? Is it drawn by hand with some kind of funky USB light-pen? This is why I made this thread. I'm wondering where they're getting their images to make up the image. Are they hand-drawn?

Launch? I don't know. All I know is the way I did it before was install ARMA 2, OA, then the beta all through Steam. Then I went to commander and installed DAYZ. That was about it. I'm cringing at the fact that I have to deal with that OA beta patch on the Steam list again. Half way done downloading/installing OA, then I'm at the crossroads lol

Is the beta patch a small file? I can't remember.

Help with PROPER install instructions for STEAM

Yea I have gotten it working before but I kept getting a 3gp_performance error whenever I would run the game (like right before the game loads and is still on the desktop). However I always thought that was normal until recently people said they don't get that. So I wiped all traces of the game off my system. I hate the beta patch option to install on Steam. Why can't it it just be: ARMA II, OA, DAYZ, done. The patch part messes me up!!
  13. There are many images out there with DayZ themes and I would like to know how they are made! They are NOT screenshots of the game. They look awesome and I'm wondering where people are getting them or how they're making them? Here is an example of some:

So on Steam, I'm NOT gonna install the 3rd option: Arma II: Operation Arrowhead Beta. Rather through Commander.
