I don't believe there should be any "picking" of traits. Only that you would get better or faster at certain things the more times you actually do them in-game. and only very slightly after lots or practice. But still, I take your point.

2000 across the server.

In the early days of the mod the zombies were an immense threat, and the player interaction was much more tense and interesting as a result. It feels like most of my player interactions are goofy and trivial... Standalone honestly won't feel right to me until the new zombieAI and numbers are in, and a stealth mechanic is implemented.
-
Which is why I am in favor of a slow and relatively minor improvement in skills such as bandaging, or building, or fishing, or whatever. It can add a little more weight to a characters life without jeopardizing the level playing field when it comes to player interactions.

Neither of you are contributing.... Scatter, they'll move it to stable as soon as it isn't shit. What they're doing is difficult and there is no way to predict the nature/duration of issues that might arise. Iron, don't be a douche nozzle back to him just because he was being a douche nozzle to the developers. An eye for an eye etc... oh and its in the forum rules somewhere...

You really needed to go for that guy with the farming hoe right from the very beginning. He was the only real threat since you were wearing a bike helmet.

DEADLY Ricochet Mechanic Proved True
TheLastEmp replied to BadContrakt's topic in General Discussion
Soooo. I was on top of the tall apartment buildings across from the grocery store in Berezino. And I fired off a mosin shot at a player on the top of the apartments by the police station north of berezino. From a crouched position. Clear line of fire. The bullet ricocheted off of thin air and hit me in the leg. I was thoroughly surprised. -
Fuel for it will be an interesting element. I'm assuming it will take just straight gasoline as opposed to the 50/50 Gas/oil mixture their supposed to get. I'm down with the chainsaw so long as it's loud and obnoxious but you can just hold down the trigger and let zombies run in to it.

I know of an admin who has utilized this. Its pretty easy for them to do.

Can someone tell me the parts I need to build a pc for dayz SA and minecraft?
TheLastEmp replied to Michael_42's topic in Technology/Programming
I don't think problems is the right word.... It won't be as pretty. But your fps would be excellent. I'm not advocating the set-up you hypothesized, I would simply make purchasing a quality cpu my priority when building a pc for this game. -

I don't think you understand how cpu intensive these games are. My point is that if you spend equivalent amounts on both CPU and GPU, there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of getting anywhere close to 100% gpu utilization. If you want good fps in cities you pony up the extra money for a fast i5, then spend whatever is left on a gpu. if its 100 bucks, fine, you'll have to turn some texture quality down and stuff like that, but you'll still get 45-55 fps in Cherno. If I buy a better gpu and a worse cpu, it won't matter what I change my settings to, I'm still gonna get worse fps in cities. Edit: The game was developed on an i5 if I recall correctly. -
So! Just a quick PSA regarding Energy and Hydration levels. Reaching "bright green" hydrated and energized does not mean that your energy and hydration "bars" are full. Upon reaching Bright green you are still only about 25% fully energized. This means you can continue to eat... A lot! And you won't be wasting the food. You're simply stockpiling energy giving you longer periods or "healing" without having to eat as regularly. I only carry food with me if I'm completely stuffed. And I eat it at the first available opportunity. This is the best way to heal quickly when injured and it frees up space in your inventory! Happy Hunting!

I believe I heard it mentioned by Sacriel42 in a stream. He's a friend of Rocket. My own in-game experiences since learning this has pretty much confirmed it for me.

The reason Zombie clipping isn't fixed.
TheLastEmp replied to Dontstealmycheese's topic in General Discussion
I knew there was going to be a shit-storm after they beefed of the zombie speed and respawns. It's identical to the people who said it was impossible to effectively melee in the mod. They refused to believe that there is a way of doing things other than the way they happen to do things. They got comfortable running around completely ignoring zombies and now they don't know how to adapt. Edit: I think the zombies are fast enough... There needs to be more of them... and it needs to be possible to sneak around them. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
TheLastEmp replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Bro there are plenty of us who are managing the zombies just fine. We went through this exact same thing with the mod. You have to learn how to adapt and handle them. Stop being so fucking judgmental, Sometimes other people have valuable information and you should listen. Edit: You can outrun them. You can run through an entire town with an axe and kill every single one without taking a hit... then again, I've been knocked out by one in a single zombie punch after they glitched through a wall... That's Alpha though... Zombie speed is fine, they just need to add more and fix the respawn mechanic... and fix the path-finding -

TheLastEmp replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
LOL Wot? They're not hard to outrun. They stop pursuit after a minute of running away. -
Yes, but with bad fps in cities until optimization (beta). Probably. I'm not sure if thats a dual or quad core you have listed. If it's a dual, you probably need an upgrade to play. You're good for Retail without upgrading. Especially if you overclock your cpu any.

I think the speed is fine. Zombie alertness should be closer to what it was in the mod. Audio/Visual range and sneaking mechanics need to be effective. Zombie respawning needs to happen further away and on a countdown instead of instantly and right next to you. Zombies need to not be able to see/run through walls. Oh and there needs to be more of them still. -
new player since 2 weeks just my opinion.
TheLastEmp replied to rigz's topic in New Player Discussion
These are primarily issues that are a result of the game being in Alpha. Your "blurry" vision issue may be the result of a number of things. Make sure Bloom and Rotational Blur are all the way down in your video settings. Blurred vision is a side effect of being hurt, but is dependent on the "bloom" setting in your video settings. Sometimes, when you join a server, if you are injured, you may need to open your video settings for it to recognize that your "bloom" is all the way down. They aren't very regular with their updates, sometimes it's one month, sometimes its two... but they have lots of planned mechanics being implemented soon and they expect to be in to a stable Beta stage before the end of the year. -
Even the "armored SUV" with the gunner on it had protection from the sides... Still seems like it would be a little much... maybe not though.
-
The only reason I'm okay with weaponized vehicles is because the gunner is always a sitting duck. They definitely need to be difficult to repair/maintain/rearm. Just so long as the gunner can be shot out, I won't complain.
-
I too, loved the vehicles from the mod. DayZ Origins even allowed you to attach sheet metal to certain vehicles to help make them more robust/armored. I believe they will be completely reworking all the vehicles, though some of the forms (or models) of vehicles will be similar. I would be surprised if they didn't include a bus and a utility truck. Quite frankly, the only vehicles I really care about being implemented in to the game are bicycles.

A Little PSA About The LRS And SKS...
TheLastEmp replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Well. That was the most useful PSA I've heard in years, Thank you kind sir. -
1.) There is a known glitch causing players and zombies to sometimes be "invisible" to your client. This may be what you're experiencing and should be fixed very soon. As far as distances are concerned, all servers default to somewhere between 1200 and 1400 meters (they're all the same I just can't remember exactly) and there is NO WAY to change this value. Even if you change it in your settings or your config file, the SERVER ALWAYS DETERMINES VIEW DISTANCE. 2.) You will never have to pay anything more to continue to enjoy DayZ in all it's glory.
