If you combat log don't play, quit.

I recently held someone up at night at the NEAF. Told him not to move and not to switch out the flashlight in his hands. He told me he was scared shitless and I was about to assure him that "If I wanted to kill you I would've alre---" and then he combat logged... He took all the fun out of the encounter for the both of us. :/

Did you get KoS a lot?

Only been KOS'd once since SA released. 60+ hours of game-time.

    Dealing with zombies unarmed?

The two posts above pretty much covered it. The zombies are fairly slow and if you're in a town breaking line of sight with them is fairly easy. Make sure to run with your fists up as it makes you faster. You'll learn what it takes to break line of sight and lose a Zed and wherever you end up in the town is where you start to loot. I don't bother to attack zombies until I've found a fireman's axe and some sort of head gear. The damage/health system is complicated, but you regenerate "blood" and "health" if you're very well fed and hydrated. Just start by focusing on evading zombies and getting fed. Also the better the condition an item is in the more damage it'll absorb (if clothes) or the more nutrients it will provide (food).
  4. DON'T GO WITH AMD, It seriously won't be able to handle all of it. DayZ ARMA etc. are extremely cpu dependent and you won't get good frames. I just picked out parts for an intel build for another user that we kept under $900 and could definitely stream and play DayZ in 1080p and solid fps.
  5. Fundamentally flawed = Built on an engine with too many limitations. They're going to stuff as much in to the game as they possibly can but Dean is already recognizing that he's having to make sacrifices. He's having to limit his vision to continue to build the game. Or maybe you're right... maybe he was talking about the "concept" of what the game is at the moment. I don't think that's the case. I think he still plans to add mechanics that will balance out the advantages of not shooting on sight.

    Why should street lights work?

We'll say solar cells/wind and really effective and durable battery technology :P There has been a lot of discussion about having some sort of Generator in the larger towns (or multiple generators) that you can restore and put fuel in in order to get more of the street lights illuminated. We'll see what happens going forward, but I can't foresee them disabling the couple street lights scattered around the place that do still work somehow.

Cant see direct chat or hear player voice

Check in your sound settings that you don't have VON turned down all the way... If that's not it then I have no idea. :|

2 years on and nothing has changed

Good idea, lots of other people should follow your lead. "Alpha" still hasn't sunk in yet somehow.

Look, I'm going to try to break it down even more... DayZ SA had a complete engine overhaul last year. They needed to radically change the way things were bring handled by the server. THAT TOOK A LOT OF TIME. They've got a fairly stable Alpha at the moment. But because they wiped the slate clean last year, they completely changed the way zombies and loot are spawned and "handled" In order to not waste too much time and not stress the servers too much, they used Placeholder spawning mechanics until they could implement it exactly the way they want to. They are being a SMART dev team and are only getting shit on because they released it as an EARLY APLHA to far too many unknowing people like yourself. EDIT: TLDR It hasn't been two years. They had to change lots of stuff "under the hood" in order to implement all the cool shit they know needs to be in it.

His particular complaint wasn't necessarily about the condition of the game... more or less it was about the progress they've made over the past two years. Which is a shit ton!! OP just wasn't aware of that fact and so is pissing and moaning. Hopefully he understands now.

2 years on and nothing has changed

If they'd have released SA in 3 months (which would've just been a fixed up version of the mod) you be pissed as fuck because it would still have been weird and buggy and shitty... welcome to the RV3 engine. NOW, they've gone through and completely changed the way the game is handled by the server and moved away from script based commands. This has taken a lot of time and they are continually fighting against an engine that wasn't designed to do what they're trying to do. That being said, they've made a shit ton of progress with it and now that they've gotten the majority of that out of the way they're going to be piling in a ton of content and focusing on tons of different gameplay mechanics... did you watch the most recent devblog? educate yourself or shut-up until it's a finished product. Sorry, not trying to be a ranting asshole, but if you aren't aware of what's gone in to it over the past two years that why are you bitching? You have no idea how much work has gone in changing the way objects and AI are handled and what that's going to allow for in the future. (just two tiny examples.) I would be pissed too if I didnt know everything that's gone on behind the scenes... on the surface it doesnt look like much has changed... but that incorrect. Edit: gonna suggest this get locked... It's not going to get any more productive.

Alright, IRZERO... that was when SA was just a cleaned up version of the mod...

irzero. You have not been following the dev process very closely. That much is obvious because of the inaccuracies in your post. Please do everyone a favor and wait until it's a beta before you criticize. EDIT: I've never had a character wipe on the mod or the SA... now, I've joined different hives and had to start at the coast... but thats not a bug... I've enjoyed the obvious visual improvements in the SA and have been following along closely enough to know that they've done a lot of work "under the hood" so to speak, to prepare for all of the shit they're adding in. I would bet everything in my checking account that by November we're going to have a very content rich game... likely only needing another 4-5 months of refinement.

    other types of zombie?

I think it's safe to assume the damage model on zombies will change once they have the zombie population at a number they like. Ammo will become much more scarce as well.

    Dear combat loggers.

Before the 30 second timer was implemented I tried to hold up a survivor at the NEAF. He told me he was shitting his pants he was so scared. I figured I'd mess with him a bit and then maybe try to team up or just see if there's anything he needs. Before I can even say "Don't worry, I'm not gonna kill you", he fucking combat logged. I really don't understand why. Player interaction, whether good or bad, is what makes the game interesting and fun.

You can't even trust trees anymore.

It's almost like I can hear your frustration as your trying to pick the SKS back up... I've never experienced that bug myself, but it sure as hell looks annoying.
  18. If you know the correct way to go about pressing "wasd" it definitely takes only a couple seconds. I've Houdini'd myself out of a couple of pristine sets. I believe it's not supposed to be that easy and is, in fact, a glitch. But, we'll have to wait and see.
  19. #Alphaproblems Its a bandwidth issue, they know and it should be much improved soon... In my experience it seems to vary from server to server though. If I'm getting a lot of desync I change servers and it usually goes away.

[Reuploaded] DayZ SA : 400m+ Sniper kill w/loot

Nice shot indeed.... I'm inclined to believe your friend missed all of his shots. Was his scope buggered or is he just that bad :P
  21. The amount of damage they absorb is directly related to their condition... Your motor bike helmet absorbs more of the damage when its pristine than when its damaged. Your ballistic helmet can take one round from a mosin leaving you unconscious for a minute or two but otherwise unharmed ONLY if its pristine, otherwise you will take some damage. A Jacket or vest will absorb damage from a zombie causing it to degrade further. And all items loose their color and become faded as they wear down making camouflage less effective. That's it for now... could be that in the future badly damaged clothing has a chance to drop an item or something... who knows.

    Will my PC run DayZ?

I've some people complain about low frames with the AMD A10 CPUs. I'm not positive, but i think it's only until the optimizations come in from AMD... I get friggin horrible fps with my AMD FX-4100 Bulldozer... AMD cpu's can be all over the place with their performance in ARMA... just depends on how good the hyper-threading is

    Swearing....

Swear Thread is full of swearing The fuck is that about? Cause swearing is fun. Edit: Yeah I swear from time to time on this forum and have never seen it altered... Shitfuckcockandballs :)
  24. I've honestly had more friendly encounters than hostile ones... I know its hard to believe but its true. Might help that I'm usually completely unarmed or much more heavily armed than the other person when I run in to a player. I'd say 65-70% friendly encounters.
