This game feels unplayable and to complicated to get into.
TheLastEmp replied to kealthkewk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Download and install DayzCommander to make joining a game simple and pain-free. Join private servers so as to avoid hackers as much as possible. Once you get comfortable with it (a couple of days for me), you'll have no problem finding a good server. (taking the time to get whitelisted may be worthwhile) You can still break a leg and die randomly by walking over the wrong surface... but it doesn't happen too often. I've played about 80 hours of DayZ and have yet to be killed by a hacker OR break my leg from walking on the wrong surface... The DayZ gods smile down upon me. :) -
Beans given to Anti for being upfront and honest... and because he is suggesting the server as a solution to OP's problem

Right, because when I'm crawling along inside a corner store and a zombie freaks out and hits me through a wall it's totally because I'm a dumbass and wasn't utilizing the stealth mechanic...

Nothing gets my adrenaline more jacked than coming across a couple of well kitted bandits when I've only got a measly Winchester or Enfield. I have more fun when I try to play as a hero than when I play as a bandit. I sniped a couple of bambies early on in my DayZ career, and got absolutely zero satisfaction from it. Being fully kitted while getting in to a fire fight makes me so anxious that I tend to make mistakes...

Its pretty sad when dying becomes a strategy... Antibiotics need to be easier to find. Any other suggestions for balancing the infection system?

Little late to the party but... Just installed Day Z, Now what?
TheLastEmp replied to Dools17's topic in New Player Discussion
Right now, DayZ is a bit of a nightmare for beginners and experienced players alike. The most recent mod update made it far too easy to get sick and die after taking a hit from a zombie. My personal recommendation. Download Commander (if you haven't already) and try out one of the other mod variations. Look for one that has a decent number of servers before you begin downloading it. Also, since its your first time, take a brief look at a loot map for whatever map you're going to play on and take note of where there is any high value military stuff (large red dots). This will give you some sort of objective once you've been in a server long enough to find a map and compass etc... Also, watching youtube videos won't hurt so long as you recognize that they cut down hours and hours of gameplay in to a 10 minute video. I pretty much based my playing style on one the youtubers and I couldn't be happier. I may occasionally get killed trying to hold someone up... but I'm normally successful -
why isnt there more push bikes in dayz ?
TheLastEmp replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You forgot the ' before the "Merica"... how very 'merican of you :) and IN 'merica, a "push bike" as you call it would probably be most akin to a push-scooter... A.K.A. a skateboard with handlebars -
IMO the attitude everyone should take is: "The game will be released as a finished product at the end of the year, but I can support them by pre-ordering it AND get access to the game while its being created so that I can see some of the evolution of it and get a leg up on everyone who hasn't pre-ordered it." I know people will bitch no matter how polished the SA alpha is, I'm just at a loss for being able to understand why. If I got an alpha version of Battlefield 4 for pre-ordering it, I would be stoked just to get a glimpse at what the finished product will be like, regardless of any errors or bugs or ugliness that exists.

Will anyone else play KOS in SA when it comes out?
TheLastEmp replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think I may have just pitched a tent... In my trousers... @Dgeesio: SA is not the same game in a different skin. Way more complex and dangerous. I DO believe there will be a slightly smaller % of KoS players, but hopefully not too much of a decrease... Every time someone shoots at me before I've spotted them I get the most insane rush of adrenaline. And then when I manage to survive their futile ambush and can take 'em out with my measly Enfield I feel like saying "fuck the heliocentric model of the solar system. Everything, in fact, revolves around my Andromeda-sized titanium balls." :) I prefer to hold people up/stalk/help as opposed to KoS... the uncertainty of what will happen is what makes the game so addictive. -
The whole copyright issue with GP is a little ridiculous. As is the bullshit extra load time for joining a server... Those things aside, it's a pretty damn good mod. More variety of weapons, more types of vehicles, vehicles you can attach armor to, you can choose from a number of different spawn locations, you can build a lockable base with a garage for a vehicle, separate island with lots of AI and loot. Plus other stuff I'm forgetting...

I heard someone argue that same thing for autos as well... IRL, cars are extremely common, and it would make sense to me if you could find them scattered all over a town. The catch would have to be that parts would obviously be difficult to find (as they sometimes are now), and I think even more importantly, gas should be super rare to find. In my ideal game, the vehicles in a decent state of repair would be easy to find... It would be finding fuel that should be most difficult! :) Love the push bikes though... would always love to see more of 'em -

Good call... I'll throw my vote for Rhino -
Given as nothing else has worked, I would suggest double checking that all of your audio/video drivers are up to date... I've never heard of this issue except as a result of bad latency. Also, what version of windows are you running? P.S. You had not mentioned that you had tried multiple servers when that guy brushed you off. Nor had you provided a clear thorough report of all the conditions surrounding the issue. Yeah he responded like a douche, but you countered with 1 part douche and 2 part raging asshole. Next time... kill 'em with kindness... it works better

I would much rather trade shosho or the "other" syndicate than Frankie... but lets be honest, he went after PSI because everyone knows he's the best! :P -

Sarcasm is difficult to convey through text... I agree that American humor is severely lacking in the modern context. I miss the likes of Mitch Hedberg, Also Jesse Eisenberg might be the new Bill Murray... Watch his interview with Romina Puga (spelling?) Brilliant, dry, biting humor that I so desperately miss... Some of us have a good sense of humor, but it is few and far between. -

I'm a frequent reader here, but hadn't ever bothered to create an account and post... this thread changes everything lol. This thread, and the one where everyone started apologizing to one another, have pretty much permanently altered my perception of the internet... Also... we Americans have the BEST sense of humor... does no one remember "dead baby jokes"... pretty sure we started that :P
