I don't think the agents in my office appreciate me blasting the A-Team theme at max volume... But the thread deserves it goddammit.

Pretty Sure we've all done that at some point...

A Gun You Never Found Before?
TheLastEmp replied to Devon206 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've never found a DMR from an actual spawn point. I've found 'em stashed away and on dead players, but never from a loot spawn. Which sucks 'cause I love that friggin' gun. Also, satchel charge. -
What's your Day Z playstyle?
TheLastEmp replied to andrewmont's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
On Vanilla servers I play as a Medic/Hero/Bandit Killer. On pretty much every other mod except for DayZero I play straight up KoS. Unless they're a fresh spawn and moving in a different direction from me... I do the above-mentioned because it makes sense to me given the inherent differences between mods. Vanilla is hard and loot is scarce making people more likely to team up and/or need help. Most non-vanilla servers/mods just have too much damn stuff and aren't hard enough for players to actually need to team up to survive. -
Who is your favourite DayZ youtuber?
TheLastEmp replied to Skypill's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is great by the way!... I have several new youtubers I'm going to have to check out. Personally: Frankie - simply for the play-style and entertainment factor (I know his ethics may be questionable) Jack - If you watch Frankie it's almost requisite you check out Jack as well PsiSyndicate - He's probably my favorite, and it was his video "guide to installing DayZ" that got me started playing, so I'm biased. Shosho - Really entertaining banditry and trolling type videos. The exact opposite of my play-style but super entertaining to watch. Blackmesatech - I think he only has one or two DayZ vids, but I have to throw him into the list because his Battlefield footage is simply phenomenal. Really top-notch stuff. -
Who is your favourite DayZ youtuber?
TheLastEmp replied to Skypill's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I feel the term "scum" to be a bit harsh... "Human" might be more appropriate... He felt WarZ was better and wanted more people to play it so he supported it. Then he changed his mind, realized DayZ was way more fun and went back to supporting DayZ. Changing your mind and supporting things you like make you a scumbag? -
Good story. But I gave you beans for your avatar, which is excellent.

Seriously... No sarcasm on this one. Keep it up!

I was playing Origins yesterday and picked up an SA58V with a sick sniper scope on it (first time I'd found one with that scope). Was heading away from Novy with my newly found weapons when I hear a vehicle headed to the military camp. Double-time it back to the military camp while staying in the woods on the hill above. Watch a player loot around the camp for a minute while I catch my breath. See that the player is a bandit, ready myself for the kill. Player stops moving for a second to pick up some loot. Squeeze the trigger. Once. Direct hit. Expecting to see player drop but instead watch as he sprints behind cover. Fuck. Remember I'm using an SA, not a sniper rifle. Should've just turned the gun on myself right then. Instead I tried to flank left behind the barn. As I'm sprinting to the barn I see in the bottom left of my monitor : "4 minutes till server restart". Fuck. What do? Watch the military camp for a minute or two. See no movement. Figure I'd rather disconnect in the woods somewhere than disconnect in the open behind a barn. Sprint back to the tree line. "1 minute until server restart" I'm about 10 feet from the tree line. Player back in military camp fires off a dozen shots in my direction. Sounded like AK. Three of the bullets land home. I die. The server restarts. realization of what just happened settles in. Commence facepalm.

I originally had my Voice Com. bound to the "~" key. Worked great, had no issues. Then went to play wasteland, realized I can't use "~" for Voice in Wasteland for whatever reason so I changed it to "tab". When I went back to playing DayZ, I forgot that changes you make in wasteland carry over to DayZ. Every time I alt+tab'd in order to move around the map on my dual monitor,I was inadvertently and unknowingly spamming direct chat. A couple days later I was playing with a friend and they mentioned it to me... 9 months later I still haven't bothered to change it. It keeps me from "map cheating" anymore though... so at least there's that.

Why do peoples actions need to dictate their appearance?
TheLastEmp replied to GBTP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Everyone looks the same in a Ghillie suit :) -
I get it perfectly. You didn't ever get to feel like you "won" the argument and when you realized that you never got the satisfaction you wanted you decided you post again and see if you could get the whole thing going again so that you could "win" the argument. You were the LAST person to post on the thread a year ago. You weren't responding to anyone... Sarcasm or not, the fact that you posted at all gives you the maturity of a 12 year old.

I'm a little surprised by how little gear you're finding on low-pop. servers... I'm not sure if you've read the thread about loot spawning, and how the system works... but it could be that you're inadvertently making it harder for yourself to find gear. It can take up to 10 minutes for loot to spawn in an area once you're within 200 meters of it (but not TOO close! if you're within 30 meters loot won't spawn regardless). I tend to spend quite a bit of time looting, trying to make sure that as much gear has spawned in as possible before I leave the town and move on. The same thing goes for heli-crash sites. I'd still love to hear reports on progress your making with your plan though. The concept of saying "fuck infection" and just storing up as much ammo as you can until the point when you can literally just mow down every zombie you come across is really appealing to me... Keep it up.

Wow, I dunno how I've never tried doing that to someone before... +1 beans

Unless you intend to regularly kidnap people and throw them out of airplanes... Then it is a brilliant option to implement...

I was tempted to believe kodeth wasn't an immature hacker... until his post today that made it painfully obvious that he still has yet to grow the fuck up

Some sort of system for making an IED would serve a nice purpose and be totally realistic given just how many things you can make an explosive out of.

Playing Origins (anything non-vanilla I play as a bandit). Find an AKM and some other basic gear. Start stalking two players moving South out of Mitrovice. Stay just inside the tree line while the two idiots I'm stalking head south a little ways out of the tree line, super exposed. Too focused on them, don't notice their third teammate above me further up in the trees. Get brutally murdered by an M4 or some other stanag weapon. Respawn and somehow end up respawning about 30 feet from where I died with all three of the players busy looting my corpse. Somehow still have all of my gear as well. Whip out my AKM. Raise up the iron sights. Forget the AKM has zeroing Wanting to be bad-ass and figuring I can't miss at this range, I fire off shots directly at their head-level. Miss every single shot over their heads. Get absolutely annihilated as all three of them unload their clips at me. I didn't use iron sights for a long time after that...

Was playing on a server that started every new spawn with an enfield and a satchel charge. Would drive up and down the coast till someone shot at me. Would get out and knock them out with the enfield. Would bandage them and set satchel charge while they're knocked out. Would tell them that they shouldn't have shot at me, but that it's okay. We can still be friends and work together. Once they start to wake up, start backing away far enough and give the player a *salute*. Touch off satchel charge. Loot new satchel charge off their body and repeat process.

What happened to the dayz mod ?
TheLastEmp replied to reuben5150's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The whole point of DayZ was to make survival extremely difficult... not to have a PVP mod with zombies. Yes the infection system is pretty OP, but I think spawning with 1 set of AB's would probably be all of the balancing that is needed... It sounds like you should start running Origins or one of the other Mods on your server... Origins is about as close as you can get to a merger between wasteland and DayZ and it is quite popular at the moment. Not sure what other issues you're dissatisfied with... it's a survival mod... -
I hear ya mate, The steep learning curve was something that really attracted me to the game in the first place as well... And the way all the non-vanilla maps are designed I agree that survival has become waaayyy too easy, reducing the game to pretty much pvp only. I love how serious infections are, and I love playing on fully populated servers (The harder the better, ya know? (pretty sure my gf feels the same way, lol (sorry couldn't help myself))). But there is still just an imbalance in the game... Infection is my only concern now everytime I play and that hasn't been as much fun either... I think something small... like starting with 1 pack of AB's would be enough to balance things out. and yeah, the 80+% of games that hold your hand the whole way through are frustrating as all hell... thoughts?
-
No, but a bandit might mark notches onto his rifle stock to tally up his kills...
-
I think you may be on to something KoS!
-
That's a harsh generalization. I play on fully populated servers and most times I go through a town to loot, someone is already there looting or has been through just before me. I rarely get hit by zombies, I'm stealthy and cautious and know how to lose a zombie if one does Aggro on me. Yet still, I've died from infection several times already as a result of zombies hitting me through walls, and not being able to find AB's within an hour of dedicated searching... Also, could it be that people aren't lazy as fuck or stupid, but simply haven't played the game enough to know where they should even be looking for AB's? If I were just now trying to get in to DayZ I don't think I'd have the patience to learn everything in-game, and looking up loot spawns and shit like that online kind of ruins the experience don't you think? Next time try stating your opinion like a rational human being instead of a douche nozzle and you won't come across as a hateful piece of shit (which I'm pretty sure you're not but it can be hard to tell via written message) Cheers

I like the idea of the seasons changing very slowly on the map... Log-in one day, the leaves are tinted with yellow and red and air has that crisp autumn smell.... Log in a few weeks later and most of the leaves are off the trees and there's snow starting to swirl around in the air... Man, that would be an awesome immersion tool. This seems highly unlikely to me for implementation any time in the near future... but maybe in early 2014 they can start making something like this happen!!
