DayZ standalone suggestion: Seasonal loot balancing. "Hunger" season, "Cease fire" season, "Zombie infestation" season etc.
JuX replied to DZR_Mikhail's topic in Suggestions
In my opinion this is pretty worthless topic. Having actual seasons of spring, summer, fall and winter with their weather are the only worthy things added in this aspect (which are suggested on their own topics), but this is just mix of a bit confusing scripted events that most pretty much fall in the category of weather. -
It actually currently works as secondary weapon, which requires 10 slots on your backpack. It really isnt effective weapon, even at 5-10m range doesnt kill with buckshots, which is really weird.

You keep forgetting the fundamental purpose of the ALPHA stage. Playing the ALPHA is simply a condition where our "job" is to find out the glitches within the system and character reset are part of that progress, so data remains fresh for better analysis and trials. Besides how can we examine the early survivor gaming and general loot balance, when everyone is already fully geared out? You shouldnt gear up your character ridiculously within the ALPHA anyway, since you can manage with little amount of ammunition, supplies and clothing. If you collect insane amounts of ammunition, then your simply doing it wrong. The odds are you will never spend all that ammunition on that characters life time and there are no places to store that ammunition. Its actually funny, when you eliminate a bandit or server hopper and discover he has over 200 ammunition on his body he never got to use.

Rivers, Canals, Bridges: Survival Resource, Transport Medium, Natural Chokepoints
JuX replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in Suggestions
@Lidskjalf There will be more archipelago added to south-east coast, which will include at least Utes from ArmA 2 and current area of the map will not be containing such naval use rivers, since rivers are already implemented the way they are. Northern territory doesnt look promising either on the subject, but possible expansions on western territories are unknown. -
Topic was already suggested, before DayZ [sA] got its own section in the forums. Having seasons seems like something that should be eventually in a survival game such as DayZ.

Keep in mind helicopters are far more valuable vehicles then biplanes ingame. I think biplane could be potential civilian aircraft you could find in large barns in NW fields of Chenarus, rather in risky areas of the airfields. Their limited landing areas also offer better opportunities for people to steal it, rather then try shooting it down on sight and settlers of distant camps and Utes island would find this vehicle useful.

Rivers, Canals, Bridges: Survival Resource, Transport Medium, Natural Chokepoints
JuX replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in Suggestions
If you would travel around Chenarus, you can see there are rivers pretty much everywhere. They are simply badly dried out, but still contain sufficient amounts of water (not for naval travel however). -
You should drop this subject, there is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop 3rd party communication.
-
Navigation itself is a survival skill and not to mention those nav points were used by snipers to range distances without range finders. Also this topic isnt a suggestion at all, unless you want them bring it back, which would rail against the whole purpose of the game.

Once i played "The Last of Us" the horses seem liked good idea to put in DayZ. However i do not believe it would work well with ArmA's engine, but wouldnt mind if Dean proved me wrong on this, so let us see how complex the animal aspect becomes (mod animals are pretty braindead).

This topic is pretty obsolete considering there isnt a single high-powered weapon in the game.

Within apocalyptic scenarios there usually are bulletin boards with pictures of missing people and notes, so i suggest adding bulletin boards on each town in Chenarus for people to leave messages and other notes for trading opportunities or anykind of information, such as location of known bandit camp. These bulletin boards should remain untouched by server resets and can only hold limited amount of paper and maps in it, which players can read or remove from the board. It could potentially add new layer of social interaction to the game. Rather then interacting with others through hold ups (of course radios will become operational later, but already not easy to find). [There already is topic called "bulletin board", but not the same idea]

This idea pretty much beats the purpose of having cloud of servers to jump with your character. <_< Would be much better not to restrict server switching to play with friends, but you can still make counter-measures to stop ghosting and looting, such as having timer with different factors. Last time when played and population of the server you are trying to join in, also once you are connected to different server you cant join previous one for a long time to prevent ghosting.

I played last night on fully populated server (40 players) and i met several fresh spawns and found loads of bandits. Then huge fire fight broke out and there was at least 15 people on that same town shooting and freshspawns showed up running to crossfire like idiots, just to loot the dead during a fight (Needless to say the town was a graveyard afterwards). So its not matter player size, but where you travel. There is no reason to find people in areas that have absolutely no value, that is why traveling in northern forests is relatively safe way to travel, but if you head to coastline or western military bases, then you are bound to find other people on populated servers. Massive player scale would just break the game and cause massive graveyards i had last night.

Topic already exists. This does idea would not work at all, you could easily circle around it by suiciding on zombies and what exactly are the terms of "suicide" in DayZ? Intentionally getting sick and dying may be suicide, but how does game recognize something like that? If you suggest having cooldown on general death, then that wouldnt work either, simply cause spawn areas are WARZONES.

The current inventory capacity doesnt really cut it, when you wish to travel light and less detectable, which means traveling without backpacks and wearing high-tier clothing, assault vest that is barely enough to take basic equipment with you if you travel with mosin and secondary weapon, but possible with M4 (since you dont need secondary). So i suggest adding more light backpack additions to the game, such as satchels, messenger bags. Going light is pretty smart play in apocalyptic world and should be made more viable choice at the expense of unable to loot everything on a single go.

There will be no zombie or item spawning in DayZ Standalone. Everything will be implemented ingame on server start up, so technically you can wipe out the zombie infestation, until server reset. This mechanic cannot be allowed to be implemented ingame simply cause it has the same flaw as does DayZ mod, which is used to spot players. If you really want spawning zombies id recommend playing the ArmA 2 DayZ mod instead.

30s logout timer will definitely be added if nothing els, which is in the mod itself and think proximity blocking will be added as well. (I know you say, people will use it to scan areas, but are you willing to stand for 30s exposed just to scan if someone is nearby). Also in terms of sniping long as you fire at your opponent time to time you can block the logging out until you run out of bullets (combat situation). The proximity will definitely make sure the person doesnt logout from a surrounded building.

DayZ is aiming for transferable knowledge from real life to the game, so there wont be any perks restricting your real life knowledge to do something and frankly i do not believe it would reduce KoS at all, if anything people would become super protective of their skill sets and have a friend suicide non-stop to teach them all the possible skills and they teach him/her afterwards.
-
Think there should be random bird flocks in random trees after each reset and should spawn around course of the game. Their singing should be indicator to finding them, so people dont trigger them based on roll of the dice. Also the trees and bushes should make snap and other racket when touched by player, so going through every possible pinetree is less effective tactic of covering tracks or loosing anyone pursuing and frankly the trees should have shake effect when players go through it.
-
I have tried it and its still too big for traveling light.
-
Unfortunately this idea doesnt really work. You can always suicide to zombies and there just cant be some specific kind of suicide that gets you around the spawning timer. Spawn timer itself is not valid idea at all simply because entire spawning area is a WARZONE and you are more likely to die there as fresh spawn then you would inland. Its not fun to anyone if you die shortly after you start the game and have to wait for 5 minutes, just to be killed by bandits again.

Ear plugs for firing guns or else you get a loud ringing in your ears
JuX replied to joeymp's topic in Suggestions
People whom do not wish to become deaf and if you do not wear it, then your going to "restrain" your hearing anyway when your ears start ringing. Ear protection is pretty mandatory for military personnel now days. Also what does World War 2 have anything to do with this? -
Ear plugs for firing guns or else you get a loud ringing in your ears
JuX replied to joeymp's topic in Suggestions
Ear protection should definitely be item, from standard plugs and protectors to military quality protectors that are electronical and muffs out the loud noises and has volume setting if you wish to hear everything around you slightly louder then you normally would (useful if someone is sneaking up on you). Since this is video game the hearing damage should be temporary, rather then becoming deaf completely if not wearing ear plugs.
