    Stable Branch - 0.59 Discussion

Seems with the small update last night [like 5mb] that zombies are back.
  2. If we're getting bears then I want a .44 mag revolver in game. For obvious reasons. Make the ammo harder to get than .357 and the spawn rate about 1/3 to 1/2 of the Magnum and about 1.5 times the damage with about a .25 to .5 increase in recoil (N-Frame smith with a 6 in. barrel is quite heavy compared to a 6 inch Colt Python) and it should be fairly balanced. Numbers used to find muzzle energy comparison... http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/megraphs/357mag.html Used Federal 125gr JHP out of a 6 inch barrel. http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/megraphs/44mag.html Used Federal 240gr JHP out of a 6 inch barrel. Both are fairly common loads for a .357 and a .44. Infact the .44 load is similar to the original designed by Elmer Keith (The father of the .44 Magnum).

What is a average pc these days?

Yep. This is also why I'll be running a full case of Linus Tech edition Noctua fans. (Antec 300). CPU needs all the help it can get to stay cool during summer.

What is a average pc these days?

Intel's stopped throwing in stock coolers with the K series Skylakes (Might have started before this) and I'm in Australia. Even if I ran a non-oc cpu I'd be looking at aftermarket cooling as it can get over 40 degrees Celsius here. Don't want my Idle temps to match people's loaded temps. I'm planning on running a Noctua NH-D15 for when I eventually build my PC. With a I5-6600k but I'll be overclocking (Eventually) and in the summer my room can get to 40+ degrees with no AC available.
  5. Does not shooting people when I have the chance count? Cause I used to do that alot... then get shot at by them. Only reason I don't continue is that I don't consider my laptop worthy of gaming anymore.

VSS shots over 400m its possible ?

This is true. But past 400m I doubt the enemy in the target zone hearing the shot will be an issue.

What is a average pc these days?

I'd say an "average" pc build these days (if you can even define an "average" gaming pc) on the intel + nvidia side (I don't understand the AMD numbers yet. I'm a little shaky on intel/nvidia too) would be... 2-5th gen I5 or I7 (Skylakes going to start creeping in here as it gets cheaper/more available) 8GB+ of DDR3 ram (DDR4 with Skylake cpus) A GTX 660-780 GPU (some 970's might sneak in here) Whatever Mobo fits what you have and has what you want Decent air or AIO water cooling (eg Corsair H100i ish) PSU that runs the hardware and doesn't break the bank. SSD as OS & select games with maybe a HDD for extra storage. EDIT: Actually this is possibly over "average" by a bit. Don't really look at other people's builds often enough.

VSS shots over 400m its possible ?

Look it's entirely possible to shoot any firearm over 400m. It's just how much angle it needs to be on. For this you could just use some holdover to get the longer shots. The round is perfectly capable of it.
  9. So I'm planning out a build with running DayZ at 30 frames minimum everywhere. No set budget but I'm not wanting to spend the $2.5k australian to get everything I want at this time. Current idea is: CPU: i5-6600K 4.0GHz stock but I intend on OCing it a bit. Mobo: Not too fussed on this, but package deals with various components will be my first choices. PCi slots, ram slots, brand and cooler compatability will be given priority Cooler: Noctua NH-D15(s?) (Running air cooling because I'm not ready to like the idea of a quantity of water inside my PC case but 40 degree summers mean I won't skimp on quality) Ram: Whatever DDR4 16gb (or more) clears the cooler, has good speed and is cheap from a reputable maker. Graphics: This is where I'm a bit out of it. I'm thinking a used GTX660 which is a crime to run with this setup but I can't afford the cost of a new 980 or 780TI. Better performing cards will be given priority if availible. PSU: Haven't done the numbers on this yet but will have enough over head to run this setup with a 980ti attached with a water cooling setup if I ever do this. Will also be a reputable brand Case: TBA (thinking sleeper build) Case Fans: As many Noctuas as it takes to get positive pressure and good flow. I'm in Australia and summers are hot. Peripherals: Intend on running triple 1080p monitors, Logitech G430 headset, decent but cheap mech keyboard, Laser wired mouse with enough buttons and i think that's it. As you can see I'm mixing cheap with expensive but I have some reasons. One, I intend on upgrading the GPU at a later date as I am under the impression that DayZ/Arma is CPU intensive and a better CPU will give me better results than a $1K GPU. I am planning ahead with my choices though with the PSU. Not all that up to date with current PC gear as I've been out of it for over 6 months and I was running a laptop before I decided it was too sh*t. Preparing for schooling.

A pc built to be upgraded

Ok, back again. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/rfvKvK Planned build minus mouse, USB front hub, monitors and an OS. Notes: 980 wouldn't be bought straight away, a stop gap card would be sourced used. (GTX 660-770 is in the stop gap gpu budget) The Antec case was chosen because it's sitting on my bench right now, thus the need for a USB hub. Noctua fans were chosen because I'm getting limited edition LTT versions because reasons. Also I heard they're good. Would probably run Win10. Gotta pull the key off a dead laptop to use. M.2 SSD is being used because I have the port on the Mobo so I may as well use it. I don't need an i7 for just gaming. No real colour scheme. I'd probably end up getting Cable mod cables in black/whatever colour I don't have when/if I get them. More likely to get more HDD down the track. Don't trust AIO water cooling or kits on my first ever build. G430 Headphones because I've used them and love them. No plans for mouse. Probably whatever I like on ebay/newegg/local computer store that fits my "needs" (read: wants) Looking to run 1080 triple monitors but they'll probably end up being what ever is cheap to source at the time of build.

    Ideas for new weapons

Guys, as good as some of these suggestions may be (i haven't read them or I'd be picking at least one apart right now), please put this in the suggestions thread.
  12. Well.... actually you can. The typical saw down of a tube mag firearm is cutting the barrel down to the end of the tube. So turning this: into this: The problem with this suggestion is that (to my knowledge, haven't played in a while) we don't have a tube mag firearm with a barrel significantly longer than the mag. Going any shorter requires skills that the typical person wouldn't know and tools we don't have in the game. Yet.
  13. Triggers aren't exposed. Mag release should be above the belt line as should the hammer. Safety is just as unlikely. String goes around the barrel/slide and is stopped by the trigger guard if sized properly. The sight is the most likely snag point but pockets are worse than this. It isn't a quick draw setup but it's more secure than stuffing it in your belt. Retention is important.

    Problem whit GPUS

This also you need to have the card powered (It's been a problem before on here when somebody had the card but not a 6 pin to it) and the settings up high enough that it'll use the GPU.
  15. To be perfectly honest, this is a viable form of carrying a pistol. It's called mexican carry. I'm not at all against this as long as you couldn't do this with certain pairs of pants. The major problem is not that they would be too tight, but they would be too lose and wouldn't be able to support the firearm. So no doing it with tracky dacks. It is a dangerous form of carry but it can be done. But there is a trick that makes it easier if you have a belt. Which I wouldn't mind being a requirement. It's a loop of string which provides a place for the firearm to rest so it won't slide down your pants and keeps it in one spot. Just a piece of string or a shooelace is all you need. Oh, some history on the subject.
  16. Technically you aren't supposed to aim shotguns, except with slugs. You are supposed to "point" it. The bead is there for when you start out. That's assuming the shotgun fits you, but if we can have magic self-zeroing scopes then why not? People also get desperate, I'd rather a pipe shotgun than a improvised bow. More likely to find ammo than the gun it's for the last time I played. Of course you can't aim, but you can guess. It'd be extremely close range, last resort weapon. For balance sake I'd give it about the damage of the MP133 but with no cross hairs at all. No ability to aim other than a mild guess, and the possibility for explosion on the high side. Because it's actually realistic.

    Military loot system

People are assholes. Especially when they aren't responsible for their actions, like on the internet. That's why we have a KOS mentality. The motivation shouldn't just be the gear, it should be the journey. On top of that if your motivation is the gear then why make it easy? That takes the challenge out of it, which makes it boring. People are too careless because there are no zombies (except the three that inhabit each server). There are people who don't want to find weapons, but they make their own. The improvised bow is one of them. But they tend to try and stay away from the rest of the player base. You're eating the wrong berries.

    Military loot system

Well let's begin... One: This. Is. A. Survival. Game. Things are supposed to be hard to find, it isn't Call of Duty. Two: The M4 exists in this game along with attachments, they're just hard to find (AFAIK) Three: Hordes are on their way, they should be in when the zombies come back due to better AI being worked on right now. (AFAIK) Four: If you want AI soldiers then there are many versions of the mod and arma which allow you to do this. DayZ is supposed to be entirely player driven, thus no AI. Except Zombies and animals. Fifth: This is not a shoot-em-up, this is not a FPS, this is a survival game. Weapons aren't everything. Sixth: Please don't double post. Did I miss anything?

    Anyone else dislike ragdolls?

I'll pay that. But I wouldn't take it out. It's still better than the guy just laying down. Just as long as they could stop the sliding.

Concept of what I'd like to see in-game

It doesn't actually take that much force to stop a semi-auto pistol from cycling. The cartridges are notoriously weak due to their size and not holding it tight enough will cause a failure to feed. That's how picky these things can be. Not believing me that these cartridges are weak? 9mm is just about match in energy compared to light to mid .38 special. 10mm is getting close to .357 magnum spec but it won't match a hot loaded .357. 45ACP is about .44 special, which is a long way from a .44 mag. That's just "pistol" rounds. .308 is exponentially more "powerful" than any pistol cartridge yet isn't guaranteed a one shot stop. Nothing is guaranteed a one shot stop though, And don't bring up "stopping power" that's a stupid term that means squat in reality. Muzzle energy is a better gauge but that's only gospel at point blank. I'd say a rag good enough to hold that flashlight isn't going to break, it's going to keep the slide forward.

So the lifeless crumpling of a non-functioning hunk of flesh is "not what death looks like"? I'm pretty sure that's what death looks like.

Concept of what I'd like to see in-game

No. You are physically holding the slide forwards with that setup, even in a 1911. The front sight makes sure of it. It could work on the Magnum but I'm not in favour of ever doing this to such a beautiful firearm. Would rather one hand the pistol and hold the light with the other. Speaking of which. Why the hell can't we do that yet? or can we...

Concept of what I'd like to see in-game

It's not the fact that the light will fall off. It's the fact that the pistol wouldn't cycle in a new round after you fired it. The slide would be locked up by the duct tape. But a duct taped on red dot would be about as useful as cutting out a circle in cardboard and sticking it to the gun. If you can't use irons then you have major problems.

Sweet. Been keeping off the wiki's until I get back into the game. (building a PC atm) I like to be in the dark with this game. Makes things interesting.

Concept of what I'd like to see in-game

Well that flashlight just turns the FNX into a single shot. No ifs buts or maybes. A better Idea for the scope would be to let us use it in our hands (Can we do this yet? I've been away for a while.) because there's no point in sticking a scope to a weapon purely so we can use it to look around. Also scopes are sh*t for CQC. Red dots and irons and no scoping is where it's at. If you need zoom in CQC then get some glasses or you're not in CQC. If you want to be able to duct tape the scope to the rifle in the hope that you can use it to aim then that won't work. The point of aim is going to shift with every shot until it flys off into your face, it'll be useless.
