This thread actually helped my irrational fear of carrying and swapping main weapons.. What I used to do was drop something on the ground that wasn't a big deal in case I lost it.. Then used that as a loot pile to dump everything and put it back in my pack. Worked ok but took a long time.

The fal gets a lot of hate but putting aside its rarity it's a decent weapon. Power of a dmr with a lot faster fire rate. Sights are no worse than any other gun IMO just depends on your preference. The nv scope is what really makes if valuable though for me. I prefer playing at night so it's invaluable.. At least till I find some nvgs. But if you only play daytime servers you won't find it useful. (until the fix the switch to turn nv off and on as it should be.. Kind of a basic thing to have worked out you'd think)

Yeah the sound and vis distances have been changing a lot with all the patches. People are right it really is most effective to just get in and out as fast as possible and never hang around one place for too long. Zombies are easier than ever to give the slip now though so that's something. You can still screw yourself if you are out in the open and aggro zeds in the daytime though. But pretty much any town with a barn or something you can run through solves your problems easily enough.

Yeah I think it updates the beta and works instantly through the six launcher.. But I tried just going into the game and it still wouldn't let me join certain newer beta servers until i manually updated. So yeah if you only use the six launcher you're fine.

same thing happened to me only it was a fal with nv scope, and it was in the stary mil outpost. dunno why someone threw it away; guess they found something better.

I lost a fal mag this way. I was sad :(

WAY better that he takes big risks trying to make an overall better game IMO.

you can find the nv fal in the military camp at stary. i found one of mine there. the other was in a heli crash

i just think it boils down to preference really.. the point of the game is to have fun.. some people have fun going for the rarer weapons. i personally am having a blast with my m249 mowing down towns full of zombies. i generally stay away from people but i'd say it's more about the level of skill of the player than the actual gun. its pretty easy to kill people from long distance, but to use an mp5sd and get in close takes skill. some people like the extra challenge. guess it depends also on how close you are to the "end game." finding as many weapons as you can and trying them out to see how they feel is pretty fun imo.

I think your only mistake was expecting any other outcome.. Of course not having any chat now is kinda getting to me. I'd prob do the same thing if someone said something in direct to me like that (no one has yet). I'd just go over there assuming I'd probably die. No big deal. If I don't die then hey great, if I do no biggie ill have fun starting again. He/she better not miss though if they shoot at me. Of course I could shoot them first but what's the fun in that?

Ah yeah I could see the mk48 absolutely dominating in a pvp ambush.. I really want one now :P Also the penetration factor.. I bet you could take a guy out behind a concrete fence with that gun

So yesterday I came accross a wrecked heli inside one of the smaller towns up north.. Thought it was kinda weird as I didn't think they spawned in towns and there were no extra military zombies or anything that usually accompany helis. At any rate I find a bison sd and a dmr; loot them both, then threw the dmr in my tent and took the bison as my main About 24 hours later I'm in a different server and I log out and back in really quick (it's lame but I did this because I only had one bison mag and it was almost empty.. And I was approaching a town and wanted a full clip.. I know, I'm a terrible exploiter). I guess it was karma though because when I log back in my bison is totally gone. Not on the ground either. So I go back to my tent and the dmr is gone too. Weird thing is I still had the bison mag in my inventory. And my tent had a few other good guns like a m249 and fal, but nothing else was gone. The dmr ammo was gone too which makes me think someone just took the dmr and ammo and didn't want the other stuff.. And I guess the bison disappearing was just a weird glitch. I wondered if maybe the heli had been seen as "illegal" or something and the game just decided to vaporize the loot that had been spawned with it; but if that's true it's weird that I still have the bison mag. Anyways just thought id report it. Also was curious if other people came across downed helis in towns.

Starting without a gun kinda blows but look at it this way, it'll be way more awesome when you finally DO find a gun

If I had to spawn and go for a pvp load out ASAP it would no question be the cz550 (handgun wouldn't be that important but id prefer a 1911). I also agree its underrated.. The mil dots on other sniper rifles are good but with practice you can get the job done without them. This is if I was going solo, though. I think in a group is where a gun like the m249shines. The suppression that the gun dishes out is no joke and in an urban battle it can deal with zombies and humans very effectively. You don't usually need to worry about becoming overwhelmed by zombies when you're carrying a saw. You're vulnerable to snipers though, so if you're by yourself mowing down zombies in a town, bandits can hear and come running.. The fact that it's relatively rare and you can pretty easily identify it by its sound doesn't help either. It's still incredibly fun though so I've been using it as my main and never staying anywhere very long (a good strategy no matter what, though). Recently found a bison sd and its great for stealth zombie killing. I like the big clips.. But I wouldn't really want to pvp with it. What I like about the saw too is that because of how many rounds in one clip, you can take out multiple people easily if the chance arises. It's usable in pvp for sure.. Setting up an ambush for instance with the m249 can be devastating. But the range of a sniper rifle is better for solo work really. Better not to have to get too close.

Whats even more good is to use M9sd ammo in Glock since its less crappy then M9 in general. of course you're right, i'm just using an m9 now and didn't know that was the case. as soon as i can get my hands on a g17 i'll switch for sure. yeah the crossbow is pretty much useless.. only slightly better than nothing at all imo.

damn.. so you can use m9sd ammo in a normal m9 and it will be just as quiet to zombies as the suppressed version? good to know.

I didn't notice the glock to be any quieter when using m9sd ammo.. Is it supposed to be?

Do what I did when I found my Nv fal.. Hide in the bushes in the middle of nowhere paranoid and not having fun.. Until someone randomly kills you and you can lament the loss of your sweet-ass gun, but then get back to having fun :). Or you can be normal and go have fun with it without being ultra paranoid lol

Also agree about the m9sd. M1911 or revolver are my sidearms of choice. The g17 is kinda nice because of the light but it becomes kind of a crutch and can give you away if you get careless. Plus the lower power.. One hit kills are more important to me than noise or light

After using both the akm and fal it seems to me that the fal is a bit quieter. I may be wrong though. Of course, the fal with nv scope is awesome mainly because of the scope.. But yeah a normal fal vs an akm.. Not a big difference I don't think. I found a fal with three ammo clips though so I'm giving it a go. I like it better than the akm generally but not sure exactly why. Seems quieter like I said and I loathe the akm sights for some reason. The fal iron sights aren't THAT much better but yeah. The akm on full auto is kinda useless IMO and the three shot burst of the fal I kinda like. I mostly use it on single though.

Yeah stary is terrible.. I used to run around north of stary raiding hunting stands and occasionally popping down to the military tents if it seemed safe enough. No matter how careful you are there, and even on the blackest nights it's a death trap it seems. Most humiliating death though; earlier in my dayz experience I'd been killed a bunch by players and decided I'd shoot the next person that came near.. I was prone in some bushes and a guy comes running right at me.. He gets close and I unload a whole makarov clip at him, which completely misses. Up until that point he hadn't seen me. He then quickly blows me away. Up until that time I'd never been killed where it was clearly my own provocation. Weirdly enough that encounter made me go back to trying to play as friendly from then on.

So theres a little trick I've found to see more easily if there's loot on the ground around a heli.. Get a ways away from it and look at it through a scope or binocs. If you're far enough away the grass around it won't render and you can see everything around it. It's a good way to see if there's a gun or if it looks like its been looted/bugged and/or not worth the risk of getting close. This doesn't work as well at night but sometimes I'll risk throwing a flare on it if I'm pretty sure nobody else is around. Now though after seeing this I suppose it's good to always check "inside" the heli with your method just in case. Also, the best loot I've found seems to spawn from the medical helis. They're bigger and usually have more loot. I think they're a lot rarer though. Just found an m240 saw with 3 ammo boxes on one :)

I recently found an m240 saw and I've been having fun with that.. It can mow down a town full of zombies with very little trouble. I also have a fal (not nv sight) in my pack; yeah I don't have any more room really but I can't decide which to give up. My sidearm is a normal m9 but I only have one clip for it so I mostly use a military flashlight in that slot. I'm in the wilds a lot at night, mostly raiding deer stands and looking out for heli crashes.. Been pretty lucky so far. I've found 2 in the last couple of days (one was glitched and didn't have any loot) and a week ago I found my fal at another heli crash. I've found that running through wide open fields between towns and constantly looking to all the edges is the best way to find heli crashes. At night it helps as there's always a point of light from the glitched guns. I'm betting luck is the biggest factor though.
