Wait can't everyone still talk in side chat? -
yeah that sounds like the typical dayz response. i remember seeing a guy running around by the shore outside of cherno with a train of zombies.. making a huge ruckus. he sensibly ducked into a house and the zombies gathered outside. i was across the road with my cz 550 and without really thinking i started picking off the zombies outside the house. when they were all dead i said in the side chat something like hey guy in the house the zombies outside are dead, i killed them for you :) he didnt respond but i saw him come out of the house and look down at the corpses in what i imagined to be surprise.. and then he ran off. i figured he probably just wasn't paying attention to the chat and that i wouldn't get a response but that was ok.. i just went on my way. but i do stuff like that because it feels decent to randomly help someone (especially in a game like dayz), and who knows, maybe he will pay it forward.. and down the road someone may help me randomly when im in a scrape. its easy to be a bastard in this game. wether intentional or not, rocket was kind of a genius how he set the game up. choosing to be "good" in a world like dayz is not only unsafe, but in a lot of ways detrimental to your survival. maybe that's why it feels so rewarding when you help someone out in spite of that.

EvE Online' date=' nuff said :P (Heart pumps every time in PvP, even if you have been in a gazzillion fights) Then again you usually have a some "ISK"/more ships to fall back to if you get popped. And oh you can't DC and hope to live (agression timers :P) [/quote'] you know i was a long time eve online player and for a while i was a pretty big carebear. but amazingly i somehow hooked up with a zero-sec merc corp (rage of angels in case anyone remembers) and found myself in the thick of 0.0 pvp. I wasn't super hardcore about it but I was in my share of fleet battles, and yes dayz and eve online have a lot in common. what's funny is that pvp in any other mmo feels laughable after eve online. tried to get into the old republic and it wasn't terrible.. but pvp was a joke and it always amused me when people talked about how hardcore they were on there lol.

the thing about the m9sd though is that you can take care of zombies in your way with silent headshots.. that would make it worth it to me.. but yeah ammo is scarce so you'd have to constantly be searching for it. the revolver seems to have the most abundant ammo of the more powerful handguns. thats why many people prefer it to the 1911. i kinda like the 1 extra bullet per clip of the 1911 but both are good guns. revolver seems a little bit louder than the 1911 but both work fine and won't draw too much of a crowd. sounds like you would do best with a revolver. one hit zombie kills (anywhere on the body) and really plentiful ammo.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.. I just had kind of an amusing and weird experience and wanted to share :) I was running around looting a smaller town and I thought I was the only one there. Suddenly, I happened upon a building with a survivor in it sho looked frozen in place, staring at a pile of loot. At first I thought he was dead but as I got closer I realized he wasn't. At this time the server I was on was acting really flaky; lots of red and yellow chains, stuff not going into my pack right away, etc. so I figured the guy was just lagging and any moment he would "wake up" Now up until recently I've played as mostly a true neutral survivor. I prefer avoiding contact with anyone if possible. I used to be willing to join up with people I met but lately I've had a run of pretty painful betrayals.. Which is fine, it's part of the game.. But it's been making me much more paranoid lately. So without really thinking I raise my 1911 and offer a single gunshot to his forehead. His forehead accepted my offer and then suddenly he disappeared. So I just figured he disconnected and I was a little annoyed that there was nothing to loot but, oh well, moving on.. A few seconds later someone in side chat says "omg how did I died!!?? D: there were no zombies or players anywhere!". So I walk into a nearby barn and sure enough, there is his body lying dead with lots of much needed loot. As he ranted in the chat someone suggested that maybe he died of a brain aneurism.. So it was the perfect crime really.. To him it looked like he just fell down dead for no reason so it's a mystery :) I've had my fair share of frantic gunfights but this was my most amusing encounter I must say

Haha yeah I thought about that.. If he reads this and finds out it was me.. Sorry man, just know all the food you were carrying was sorely needed because I was super-low on blood. And for what it's worth I felt, like, REALLY bad about it afterwards...

Personally I've had the best luck finding those rarer guns (like the glock) in deer stands. Mil barracks and airfields seem to never have much when I look there. Maybe I'm just unlucky though. Also the airfields and such tend to attract lots of players so not worth the risk IMO

Fuel tanks lots of times are outside of industrial-type buildings.. I saw one outside of a barn to so they can be anywhere.

Yeah it works.. Unfortunately it happens a lot for me unintentionally when I'm in a town or something and zombies are nearby. If I pick something up sometimes I'll hit forward twice without thinking and burst into a sprint.. Even if you just take 1 step, any nearby zombies will hear/see and come running. That and when you sometimes automatically stand straight up.. Like when you refil your water bottle, or drop off a tiny ledge while prone. Those quirks have gotten me in trouble several times :P

Just managed to get myself an atv and it's great fun. Yeah after weeks of running miles and miles on foot, tearing through the countryside on a quad is pretty damn exciting. What's great about the quad is on roads it's super fast but it can go off road without much trouble when needed. Its also pretty easy to hide. You have to be careful about rolling it if you're offroading it though. One complaint is It seems to get pretty terrible gas mileage, but I haven't really driven any other vehicles so they might all be that way.

Honestly I get what the op was going through. No other game can get your heart rate up like this one.. That said I've never disconnected even when I'm pretty sure I will die. More because it just never occurs to me to log out;I'm too caught in the moment. Up until recently my main strategy was to run away and hide like a pansy at any sign of trouble. It's served me well enough but lately I've been standing my ground more and it's ever so satisfying coming out on the winning side of an altercation. Especially if it's one I didn't start. I try not to murder in cold blood so to speak but there have been a couple of times someone was in my way and rather than risk trouble coming back to find me, I took them out. I usually feel pretty bad about it later. But those of us who know what it's like to decide to be helpful/trusting and then be rewarded with betrayal understand the dayz dynamic. Overall my play style is really just live and let live if I can. I also sometimes impulsivelly do things like snipe zombies who were chasing another survivor.. I feel like people who hang around the coast with good gear and hunt the noobs are a sad bunch. They're free to do it of course.. It makes the game what it is. But sniping a player who just spawned in with a makarov requires absolutely no skill and bragging about it is beyond idiotic. Just my 2 cents.

Serge was it where you had rolled it? Or did it respawned back at its home location?

Very cool! Yeah, stuff like this is one of the more awesome things about this mod. You never know what you might find and there's the potential to find something crazy even after you thought you've found everything

Yeah I want to know if this ever amounted (or will amount) to anything.. Might be interested in guard duty if more are needed -
ARMA 2 regulars and people who got it for DayZ
Finkle replied to eddie820's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was a long time arma 2 player. Was pretty happy when I found out about the dayz mod as I didn't have to buy anything.. And I can honestly say that the money I've spent on arma 2 and the expansions was VERY well worth it. There's nothing much else that's really like arma 2 IMO.. Some games have some similar elements (I.e. dragon rising), but it takes some getting used to. You have to change your mindset pretty drastically from the 'normal' shooters to do well in the arma universe. It's really much more of a sim than a game IMO. I got a trackir specifically for arma 2 (mostly for flying helis) and it grew on me. Now I use the trackir with dayz and it's great. It takes some getting used to but I think it really helps your situational awareness. And if you're lucky enough to find a vehicle it's a huge benefit.. Particularly with the quad. Few things are as exhilarating as getting a quad running and flying through the countryside in dayz :) -
Don't think so.. Unless you are able to get another vehicle over to try to bump it over. My quad rolled and is currently sitting on its side with no way to right it that I can see. :/ I understand them not letting you turn over a car, but come on its an atv; shouldn't be any problem to tip over from on it's side.. Ah well

All servers seem to be desynced at the moment
Finkle replied to Omnishift's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Seems like there's always weirdness and lag issues on weekends lately. Makes sense because thats when everyone piles on to play. It'll probably be fine during the week -
So I found a quad and was able to get it going by just adding a tire. I thought I'd need a toolbox to put it on but apparently not. It seems to run fine but the engine icon is red and it seems to get really terrible mileage. It also generates a lot of smoke. Im thinking this is because the engine needs fixing. Anyone who's used the quad, is it normally a big fuel guzzler? And since I was able to fix the tire without tools might I also be able to fix the engine with just engine parts or something? I'm guessing I need a toolbox for that but they seem to be super rare. Anyone who has a toolbox (and didn't find it on another player) where did you come across yours? I figure factories would be the obvious place but I'm wondering if they spawn in warehouses maybe too. The quad is fun and it can go pretty much anywhere. They tend to roll over easily though.. It got stuck on its side once and you really should be able to push something like a quad right side up by yourself but not according to the arma 2 engine I guess.

Hah this happened to me once too.. I went afk while waiting a longer than usual amount of time to join a random server.. Came back to find myself a bird hovering above the trees. I just figured it was some weird mod or something for that server and left.
