Tents are NOT crashed helicopters
Finkle replied to ArrThePirate's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The other day I found out someone had generously left a g17 and mags for it while relieving my tent of the m9sd I had put in there.. I was grateful actually.. Having the m9sd made me want to actually use it, which was more of a hindrance than anything. Kind of a useless gun IMO. -
Just found a fal with night vision scope on the ground near one :D ..yeah I'll be checking every heli crash I see again lol. The crazy thing is, about a week ago I found the fal with nv scope in a tent at the stary military outpost.. I couldn't believe my luck.. I put it in my pack and ran out of the tent and was promptly sniped and killed. Thought id never find one again but I guess I got lucky :)

(Another) Trading Post that might actually succeed?
Finkle replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
glad to see things rolling along. i'll definitely be at the ts meeting. been gathering some weapons up; once we have a firm location i'll start bringing them over. -
It's Impossible to See at Night! - Other threads will be locked/deleted!
Finkle replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dont really think it's that unrealistic. Keep in mind, after a real apocalypse there wouldnt be any light reflecting off the moon. The moon is the only reason we can see at night in reality.. if, we were out in the middle of no where -
The only Complaint/Bug I have to report
Finkle replied to gusmanak's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's funny I've not seen a single mountain dew ever since I started a couple of months ago.. No idea why.. I find cokes and Pepsi all the time. Anyway yeah I've been noticing some weirdness with loot too.. I figured they just made stuff less likely to spawn though. -
How to Evade a Zombie While Unarmed (1.7.1.1)
Finkle replied to gusmanak's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Also, the confusion of the zombie is priceless.. Almost makes me feel bad gunning them down now.. Almost. The updated able-to-be-confused zombies are way better than the previous see/hit-you-through-walls-and-chase-you-to-infinity-zombies -
How to Evade a Zombie While Unarmed (1.7.1.1)
Finkle replied to gusmanak's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is actually groundbreaking for me.. I knew you could lose them in the newest update but now I'm going to give this a try. I dislike firing my gun ever if I can help it.. Probably wouldn't help if you were being chased by a handful of zeds though -

I agree with those saying they prefer the darker nights. I admit I was one of the gamma whores but now that I don't have that crutch to fall back on, I can play the game how it SHOULD be played at night. Night time is definitely playable, it just isn't as easy as it used to be. I understand the reaction of "this new thing makes it harder for me so they should change it". ..I do that sometimes too. But when you quit complaining and think about how you can adapt and give it a chance.. In a lot of ways it's better now because I can be pretty sure everyone else is having just as hard a time seeing as me. You just have to use your light sources more carefully. And once you do that the night is perfectly manageable. -
I've been raiding deer stands mostly here lately and the pitch black works fine for that.. If you have a compass and know the area generally you can navigate without having to see at all. Having a g17 helps because I can click the light on for a few seconds here and there when I need to (and if you accidentally aggro a zed having the light on your gun is really helpful). If I don't have a flashlight, chemlights and flares do the job, you just have to be a lot smarter about using them than a lot of people are. But yeah I don't think I would attempt to loot someplace like stary or the airfield without actual night vision. Then again I don't usually go near those places in the daytime either.

Your Experiences with Other Players...
Finkle replied to usszim's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it depends a lot on where you are as others have said. There are too many crazy encounters to list.. Yeah most of the time it's random people shooting at me out of the blue. Granted its kind of my own fault because I like to frequent those areas that tend to be the most unsafe.. Even after some of the worst deaths (like the time I had packed all my gear in my quad and was about to head off north when someone randomly stumbles into me and blows me away).. I still try not to kill if I can help it. I used to try to meet up with random friendlies but after a few betrayals my main strategy is to stay the hell away from everyone. -
So I shouldnt put a marker in the middle of the wilderness that says "FREE LOOTZ COME GET IT!!!" ?

Download Beta Patch and see the difference :)
Finkle replied to combatcomm1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So I managed to get the beta running (thanks to the person who posted the link to the instructions).. And sorry if this has already been said but when you see people still doing some kind of "global" chat it just means the server isn't up to the beta right? And in that situation you can read their txt but not txt back..? And I haven't been able to get anyone to talk to me on direct yet. How close do you have to be to someone for them to hear? If you're a ways away does it sound faint to them? Just a thought but if anyone wants to meet in game and test it out I'd try to make it worth your while.. -
Lets do this, Trading Station Delta - Edited
Finkle replied to combatcomm1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thinking about this, it seems that what is really needed first is a core group of seasoned pvpers.. Even potentially a clan or something to act as guard duty. The problem is, say a big clan wants to meet and posts the time and location on their forum. Could they even protect themselves well enough in that situation? I know big clans have camps that they manage to keep relatively well guarded. The trick is to find a way to do this so that the general public can somehow stop by to trade. I'm thinking though that secrecy is a big part of how that works. It also seems like the amount of people you'll need for protection will be a big part of the server just by themselves. You'll need enough guys to be able to hold off potentially groups of people and have enough people to fill in the gaps when (inevitably) some go down. I'm not a really seasoned pvper so this is all just speculation. I liked the idea of not using any external communication but Im beginning to think it would be impossible without it. I think if vent (or something) was used and you had enough people willing to fight if need be.. It might work. But idk.. Again im up for helping out whoever does end up taking charge -
The night is great for me mainly because lots of people just refuse to even try playing in it. More loot for me. :) yeah it's harder in some ways but you adapt. People always talk about NEVER use flares at night, etc.. But no, sometimes flares can be a nice distraction. Green or blue chemlights are decent enough light without being too easy to spot..must be ready to drop them and run if you need to

Is it worth keeping the PDW for my friend?
Finkle replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hm I wanna like the pdw too.. But after spending some quality time with it, yeah I like my glock better. And I even feel like the most responsible handgun is the revolver or 1911. Hard to deny those 1 shot kills. But.. Putting the pdw on full auto with the 30 round clips is pretty damn fun. I feel like the fire rate could be a little faster though. A real Mac 10 spits through a 30 round clip in a stupidly fast period of time. Then again you absolutely can't hit a damn thing with it unless you're aiming at a wall that's right in front of you :). Now if it was silenced then yeah it would be my first choice for sure -
Either FIX zombie speed or REMOVE the knockdown
Finkle replied to bjarnidk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
so it's pretty rare to be in a place where there are zombies and not at least 1 place you can run inside.. and for those few times when i'm unable to go into a building.. my tactic is to run like hell away from town.. turning occasionally to fire a few shots and run some more. a "clean hit" is nice and all but sometimes you have to just spray and pray. i don't mean to sound like a jerk.. just trying to convey that there ARE ways to deal with that threat. also, i too try to be as tactical as possible when going into a town to loot. that's why i usually spend a good 5 or 10 minutes waiting and watching outside a town to make sure no one is there. (of course you still can't do this with someplace like stary where bandits like to wait and snipe people for hours) ..but depending on where i am, how many people on the server, etc. i can be pretty sure there's no other players around and i can loot at my leisure. -
If You Could Add 1 Weapon to DayZ...
Finkle replied to zak757's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd love an as Val. An an-94 wouldn't be bad either.. But I just wish there were more options for weapon attachments.. Mostly optics.. But it would be nice if you could find a grenade launcher to attach to your gun.. Rather than just having to find that version of the gun -
I prefer night if the moon is out and you can see a little. I sometimes like the pitch black rainy nights too depending on where I am. Most people will throw out a flare if they're looting a popular spot which makes them easy to spot. Zombies have reduced vision too which helps. If its dark and rainy i feel a lot safer that I won't get sniped randomly if I'm looting some place like stary or the airfield. But if I'm out in the middle of nowhere going for hunting stands I don't mind daylight as much. I recently found a Remington 870 shotgun with a flashlight on it and it really helps a lot in the dark. Of course you don't want to keep it on all the time, but being able to flip it on and off while still being able to shoot in an instant is nice

Either FIX zombie speed or REMOVE the knockdown
Finkle replied to bjarnidk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In fact I pretty much DID figure out a way to avoid aggroing Zeds 100% of the time. By crawling through towns prone. When I was new I realized that I had to deal with zombies if I wanted supplies and I found that by crawling you can get within feet of them and they won't see you. Granted this takes a ton of patience and you have to be careful if you think other players aren't around.. But I was a long time arma player so I knew how to be patient. Now I mostly crouch run and walk when I need to and I do pretty well. The trick is getting a good feel for how close you can get to the zombies in any scenario.. For instance when it's dark and or raining you can get a lot closer to them without them noticing. And yes, after that happened I was MUCH more cautious around zombies and instead of standing out in the open shooting at them, I would run into the closest building. It worked pretty well. Like I said though I completely understand the frustration -
if you can get them in the head you can take down zombies silently with 1 hit.. the lack of sights though is the biggest problem for me. i can hip fire with it pretty accurately (if crosshairs are enabled) but yeah, as it is, not really worth it.

Download Beta Patch and see the difference :)
Finkle replied to combatcomm1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow interesting.. Sorry for the noobness but I'm not sure if I have the beta for the core game.. I downloaded the oa beta and installed it, but it was saying you have to use the beta oa exe file and I didn't know how to run it and dayz at the same time.. Is there a thread or something that explains this? -
Either FIX zombie speed or REMOVE the knockdown
Finkle replied to bjarnidk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I feel like if this wasn't part of the game, it would remove some of the threat/uncertainty with dealing with the zombies. As it stands they're pretty easy to deal with.. Any easier and I don't think it would be as fun. When something like this happens to you (and it did happen to me; zombie knocked me out at full health and ate me till I died), yeah it sucks but you learn from it.. I admit when this happened to me my first reaction was the dev dropped the ball here.. But i realized until they changed it i would have to be more careful around zombies. Now I think it's a nice unpredictable element and makes dealing with zombies a bit more precarious for me -
I wish zombies were more deadly, and survival more difficult.
Finkle replied to everyone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't know I get what the op is saying but I feel like the zombies are at a pretty good level of difficulty as they are. Especially the military ones. The zombies around the mil post in stary for example act as a decent obstacle I think. I can still take them out easily enough but I'm conscious of every bullet wasted and every sound/movement that could give me away to other players. Ultimately, zombies are just part of the scenery. Also, it's rare but they CAN knock you unconscious at full health and kill you.. I've had that happen and unfortunately my knockout timer kept me out pretty much till I was dead. Of course I felt like this was/is pretty cheap but the fact that it's happened make every potential aggro zombie a real threat. But yes, the long stretches between towns can be very peaceful and uneventful.. Enough so that it doesn't fit with some people's view of what a zombie apocalypse would be like. But I can't help feeling like that isn't what this game is about, it's about human interaction more than zombies. Just my 2 cents
