I personally have Direct Voice Chat bound to one of my mouse buttons. Partly because I started back when global chat was on most servers, and switching was annoying and something I'd forget to do. Partly because I find it much more convenient as a button.

Possible Tent Hack (Persistent Weapons)
HNicks replied to HNicks's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ah, that's it then. The server did restart somewhere in between the first and second visit. Thanks for the quick reply. -
So yesterday I was playing on my regular server (UK9) and happened to come across a tent in the woods. I looked inside and found an M107, and MP5SD6, 3 mags for the M107, a few for the MP5SD6 and also various other mags, blood bags and assorted stuff. I derped around trying to loot it, and just as I was about done I got shot and killed. I didn't think much of it - it wasn't my tent, it would make sense someone might be guarding it. So I respawned, spend most of yesterday evening and this afternoon getting back to the tent. I get there around 10pm, and I only have the backpack space to take the M107 and one mag. I run away a bit and then log out. About an hour or two later, I log back in with my friend, drop the stuff off at our tent, and we then head back to raid more stuff. When we get there, around 12:30am, the tent still has a M107 in it, and three mags, despite the fact that I took the gun and a magazine for it. The idea that the tent owner might have gone back and replaced a M107 and a magazine in the space of about two hours seems incredibly unlikely, and I feel it's far more likely that this was either some sort of glitch, or that the tent is somehow hacked to always hold certain things, presumably so if the owner dies he's got a reasonable decent kit-out to fall back on, and nobody can take his stuff in the mean time. That said, I'm not sure if such an exploit would even be possible with the way tent data is stored, so it may well just be a glitch. If it's not possible to hack in this way, then fair enough. Or if people want to try and find and check the tent out for themselves (we took the M107 for a second time) then they're welcome to.

If you spawn prone under a tree in a forest somewhere, and someone just happens to be on top of you right when you spawn in, then that's incredibly unlucky and that sucks, but really I doubt this happens often. If you spawn stood up in the middle of a field/city somewhere because that's where you decided to log out, and someone shoots you, then that's not a fault of the game. That's your own fault for picking such an ass-backwards unsafe place to log out. If there's a fairly straightfoward fix to people exploiting logging in and out to kill players and avoid death, and the only casualty of that is that people who choose stupidly dangerous places to log out occasionally die before they get control of their character, then personally I think that's fine. If someone complains about being shot as they log in then really the only situations I can think of are exceptionally unlucky/rare or a result of their own incompetence.

Date/Time: 21st June and 22nd June, multiple occurrences What happened: Three times now I have found a body, looted it, and then hidden the body only for the sound of flies to stay around for a good 5 minutes afterwards (and I then left the area). On top of this I've had about half a dozen encounters now where I've been able to hear flies indicating a body, and have searched around for multiple minutes and found absolutely nothing. Where you were: In/around barns for a few of the instances, the rest being on the coast near the spawn points. *Current installed version: OA Beta 93965, DayZ 1.7.1.5 *Server(s) you were on: UK9 and UK6 (both run by the same guys)

Unable to use items in gear menu
HNicks replied to leothedrummer's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I had this problem for the first week of playing DayZ. Any right-click context menus would appear behind the gear screen, meaning I could only use items if they were on the right hand side of my gear screen, where the context menus would poke out from behind and be clickable. I actually bled out twice due to not being able to bandage myself before I realised what was happening :P I was using the beta launcher shortcut to play and as a result was only playing the game as Operation Arrowhead beta with the DayZ mod. Faffed around and got it set up so that Steam would use the beta and DayZ mod, and that way I could launch it as Combined Operations in Steam. Suddenly I've no longer had this problem. Loading screens also look different, and the server select menu is brown instead of green. If any of you are having this problem, and aren't launching the game as Combined Operations*, then I would suggest doing so, because it was what fixed this issue for me (and a few other bugs in the interface). *One way to tell is that in the main game menu, if you've launched as just OA, you'll only have the OA logo in the bottom left. If you've launched as CO you'll get both the ArmA2 and the ArmA2:OA logos.
