World too big for own good?

What? You mean too few are at the east coast? Well.. not true. If you mean islands on the ocean - hell yes, and preferably big islands.
  2. It's now a regular server? There's 3DP and CH enabled... EDIT: Aaaaand it's crashing again. EDIT 2: It's now back. Still noob-settings enabled and my tent is cleared out. Unless someone needed binos and every can of coke I had as well as ammo for low-end weapons, it's the fault of either the server or HIVE. I'm migrating to another server for now. If the server becomes reliable later on, I may or may not come back.
  3. Before the restart my tent was gone. It is unlikely someone destroyed it (wouldn't I be able to see the remains, then?). Hopefully it's back after restart.
  4. The last scheduled restart saved my vehicle just fine. But congratulations to whoever took my pick-up truck after the server went down while I was traveling. You will never starve. I fixed all but the right-hand windshield for you. And sorry to the guy with the camp up north with 3 tents, a white off-road and a wall of sandbags. It's your truck I lost there.
  5. I can almost hear the sound of someone driving off with my pick-up truck and all supplies I had in it :P
  6. I have had two "no message recieved for x seconds" disconnects since yesterday. EDIT: The server is down? I was driving a car :(
  7. I'll gladly pay good money for the end product, assuming the design philosophy and design approach doesn't change.
  8. I'm a bit too lazy to read all posts, but how are restarts performed? Manually? How long between each? If possible, maybe a restart once every 6 hour or so would be cool. Getting some lag after a while. An automated restart warning would also be cool, if not only to avoid delayed or premature restarts. I'm liking the server otherwise. Having little to no issues.
  9. I'm more concerned about whether those cool new features coming with Arma III's engine are ever going to make it into DayZ.
  10. I have two bad news and one good news. The good news is that all my tents are back again. One of the bad news is that all my tents content are wiped, worsening the next news, which is that I was sniped this morning and lost two of my pairs of NVG. The third pair of NVG taught me that the contents of a backpack put into a tent will disappear. Sorry about that. I would gladly have left a pair or two for pickup. Bragging news: I stumbled upon a group of 5 just south-east of Krasnostav (when I was moving to check if my tents were back) who started shooting at me. And so I finally aquired a compass and an MP5SD6! Pretty awesome fight. Was only hit by a single 9mm bullet. To be fair, though, one or two of them only had melee weapons (which was kinda wierd since at least one of them had two primaries on them. Was anyone here a part of that group by any chance?
  11. It's a sim set in post-sovjet. Learn to read russian.
  12. Maybe he watched Yogcast or whatever they are called.
  13. Keep telling yourself that. Your post was vague and i was aggroed by the displayed retardation, whether genuine retardation from your side or miss-communication from both sides, it matters little at this point because there's no way to decide what is what or who thinks what about what who did because of what. I stated why I was startled--I never seize to be surprised by the levels of retardation that exists both IRL and on the internet--and my reaction was logical, at worst premature and uncontrolled (not surprising due to my sleep deprivation). I still think you are retarded, though.
  14. Good point. However, it is multipurpose and so the system needs refining and to split up into more specific health indicators. You don't die from blood loss after being shot through the heart or head, you die from loosing vital organs. Health is rarely related to your blood level, IRL. Bleeding out happens a lot and causes a lot of deaths, but not statistically significant enough to warrant DayZ's health indicator system to be based on it.

    Day z mysteries/storyline

I wanted to start a thread about something semi-related: Horror elements. When I first read that radio thread, I had chills running down my spine and I was immersed while reading on the forum. I also had similar radio transmissions running in YT to learn a bit more about those types of transmissions and the sounds/voices creeped me the fuck out. #1 immersive game so far for me has been Amnesia: Dark Descent, and I didn't even finish the game because I was too much of a nerve-wreck. Fear of the environment directly immerses the player into the world. I think DayZ has way too little horror in it. I was quite frightened by zeds when I was a noob, but after a few hours/days it all became "meh". I think it was my second or third day playing and it was nighttime--pitch black--and I was lying in the woods close to Rog or Zub castle. I couldn't move a mm because of severe paranoia and fear of roaming zeds and players, and it had more to do with the fear itself of the experience of meeting someone or something you do not wish to meet than it had to do with any kind of gear or whatever, that made me want to survive and stay hidden, safe. I can't stop playing this mod, but only because I constantly try to convince myself I can progress in the game by building myself a base or just being creative and adventurous. But in reality, alpha state considered, I think there should be more focus on atmosphere, all that comes with that, and more sandbox tools (the underground structures for example, or camouflage for vehicles and tents, a bigger and more dynamic world, shovels and a way to stack objects to create walls and structures, etc). I want Rocket to try and make the atmosphere as similar as possible to what is portrayed in the front-page trailer (just rewatched it, I had forgot how awesome it is) while giving as fundamental tools as possible for players to change the world within the game (hello empty plains). I'm a little tired, atm; haven't slept for a day or two, so sorry for any incoherence in my post. I have so many ideas, suggestions and observations about this mod I don't know what to do with my head. I'm just ecstatic about playing with this project that is created and developed by someone who thinks so much like me. Everything Rocket says in interviews and such is so hilariously close to what I want to hear (and I am mindful of the selective hearing phenomenon, lol) that I want to log in for another play-session every time I listened to him, even if I've been playing for nearly a full rotation of the earth.

World too big for own good?

The world is too small. I'm not only scared of getting shot at while lighting a camp fire; if I take longer than absolutely necessary to cook my meat, I WILL get shot at if it's a little dark out and there's around 50 players on the server. I like the atmosphere the front-page trailer is giving. Lighting up a camp fire for an hour or so at your camp shouldn't be 80% certain death - the risk should be around 5-10% of someone spotting you, and the risk of getting shot at in that case in a realistic sense would probably be very low in itself as well. IRL, survivors would be more scarce and more packed into groups. I personally play as a lonewolf, but IRL, that would lower my chances of survival drastically. I'd be ok with this being the case in DayZ, too. Two things needed for better immersion is a larger, more dynamic world and more horror elements. Psychological traumas, social needs causing depression and paranoia and for the world to be more... terrifying. Maybe it's just that I have played too much, though :( I want the feeling back that I had when I was a noob and tried to handle the zeds. Scared shitless most of the time. Also, I loved the chill running down my spine when reading the first few pages in the "I found a radio" thread and listening to creepy distress signals on YT in the background. I want these things happening in-game. Making me face go pale and chills running down my spine when I find an old note from some relevant now-dead scientists or some mysterious lore-piece. Sorry, went a bit OT.
  17. I could see resurrecting being possible in the future. Not in the magical MMO-sense, but like in real life, unless you are braindead, you could be saved. In theory and sometimes in practice. I'd say that unless the player got shot right through the heart, any vital arteries, or the head, he/she could be resurrected/saved using epi-pen or defib. Maybe even CPR? There should be a considerate amount of down-time after that, though. Maybe his/her friends would have to drag the person around until he/she is ready to walk again. As long as it tries to resemble a realistic scenario, I'm all for it.
  18. "These statistics" is vague and implying you are asking for the general collection of statistics that people are talking about in this thread. I don't think you were simply asking about "current players online", but you say you did to seem like less of an idiot.
  19. Are you fucking retarded? How did you manage to navigate to this forum without even glancing at the other buttons or features on the first page of this website? Are you even able to tie your own shoes? This goes for OP as well, but he's likely just trolling purposely.

    Romero Zombie vs Rage Infected

Doubtful. What makes DayZ is the survival aspect and sandbox aspect. Those who merely want to shoot or interact with zeds are better off elsewhere, anyway. Not saying that to be a jerk - I really think so. If I wanna spray bullets or hack 'n' slash my way through hordes of zeds or whatever, I'll genuinely look someplace else, unrelated to DayZ. DayZ for me (well what I imagine it as, both now and later on) is a Zombie Minecraft with textures that require a gfx card to render (not hatin', just statin'). A place to be creative and strategical. It is also a psychological experience for me, both when playing and when observing the overall progress. But most of all, DayZ is to me a science project being performed in public. Participating and brainstorming together with the brilliant author of this mod and his team is also a great experience. Basically, loving science as much as I do games; DayZ is a love-child of my two favorite things in this world. Therefore, to me it is critically important that Rocket stays with his vision involving maximum authenticity and minimal Hogwarts miracles (not for sake of experiment, but for my personal preference :P and its nature as a sim). When or if DayZ starts balancing/developing features and mechanics with anything other than realism, science or psychological experimentation in mind, that is when I will find something else to do with my time. DayZ is the first game I can finally start excusing my gaming habit by saying "for science!" (still not 100% rational, but it's getting there, the industry just need a little more time to get it right :P).
  21. That is actually very impressive in that case! Unless you are consistently using Steam (and the standard shortcut from Steam) I don't think there is any way of knowing the amount of hours played. Lucky/unlucky me I used a few different ways of launching the game since I started, lately using DayZ Commander which launches the game via the standard shortcut in Steam and therefore recording my hours. Not sure I wanna know how much I really played :P FML. I understand your playstyle. Personally, I'm stealthing around the world looking for tents and vehicles to loot (not being an ass while doing it - I only take what I need, usually trading what I have for what I want from their tent, but I guess if I find a vehicle and then a tent, I might just take all I can fit in the vehicle). I wish I could call myself a pirate, but I guess that requires actually approaching other players and looting them then and there.. I'd also need a vehicle. I guess I'm just a looter. The cool-factor is just not there in calling yourself a "looter", or worse, a burgler.. I keep associating "looters" with those jerks raiding the digital stores during lesser catastrophes IRL. Oops, getting sidetracked. That's my ADD kicking in. I guess I just grow impatient and understimulated after running around the map a couple of times, at which point I should just go back to RL for a while, but I just keep on playing and eventually killing myself by being reckless.
  22. I keep hearing the sound you make when going prone in a forest as soon as I read or hear the word... Oh, yeah, you know you played too much when you associate common words with the corresponding sound-effect in DayZ. Or when you try to visualize a RL scenery and are unable to not use textures and/or models from of DayZ. Thanks, I am not alone in not seeing other humans in RL for several days or even over a week. Steam overlay = autorun. I have fallen asleep I think twice while traveling (once on a bicycle and once when crawling with broken bones). To be fair, though, I really wanted to find a good place for my bicycle and I was not in a good area... I really liked that bicycle. I think it was my second one, out of like 4. That alone is an indication of time spent...

    Regenerating blood

Just as a sidenote, if for no other reason to change the blood system, I find it disturbing because for some reason I feel extremely nauseated by the bare thought of blood. I don't consider myself a sissy and I didn't know this myself until a few years ago after an accident, but it's pretty hard-coded into my brain and unlikely to change unless I actively expose myself to some extremely bloody situations for several intense weeks or so (to cure the phobia through psychological treatment). Maybe it adds to the experience to feel about as nauseated as the character itself when low on blood mainly thanks to the loud and rapid heartbeats (but really, the thought of the heart beating/the blood/blood loss is enough), but then I will call for a nerf like a real noob because everyone not suffering from this has an OP advantage over me... emotionally.. I'm sure it affects my performance, too! Seriously though, could we use a different health-indication system, like in my previous post? For science..?
  24. Indeed, that is quite misleading a lot of the time. I play intensively more or less every day and all in all, I'd say I survive for more in-game hours than at least 80% of serious players, but the max amount of days I had listen in lower right was 8 days, and that was because I was away for 3.
  25. I was personally successful when migrating to 1.7.2.3 from 1.7.2.0. Can't speak for others, but it seems to be rather stable. EDIT: To be more specific: I am wearing ghillie and it's working fine. I own a camo but have yet to use it as I don't know whether it'll fuck me up or not. I had a ghillie in my inventory when migrating from 1.7.2.0 to 1.7.2.3 and kept it throughout the updating. I was and am running Beta 94876 - no issues so far. Only thing to note is that the server I was playing on had my tents wiped. May or may not be related to the fact that it ran 1.7.2.2 for a while (I never used that patch, but I tried the experimental 1.7.2.1 on a test server with no issues, but later rolled back to play on my "home server" which was running 1.7.2.0). That's all I know.
