  1. Okay, an admin message just now confirmed that it was a hacker who killed everyone on the server and it is now getting a restart. Props to the admin for informing us. Edit: I must also note I can't really complain about it, since I've been lucky enough that this was only my second death from hacker after playing for some serious hours.
  2. No idea. I think death messages are turned off on the server, so I couldn't tell. That's why I'm making this thread to see if anyone else went here to rant about it or look it up. Don't want to make a bug report if it was a simple hacker.
  3. Well, I was already at the coast and just messing around. While I did have some valuables (matches, compas, tent, etc) I was really just surprised and annoyed. For once I wish to just be able to survive for a bit. I just keep dying to bugs and no-life snipers. I want to feel immersed in the world and connected to my character, and that is not possible when my character changes identity every other day.
  4. Deny servers the ability to connect to the HIVE if they are not running the latest patches, please. Only 10% are running 95168 and <1% are running 95208. How am I supposed to test the game if the servers aren't running the latest version of it?

    For all private servers adm

Retarded thread. It was important for me to say this before I left.

    I thought 225km was big.....

I don't understand you. Can you explain where he was being silly? Aside from maybe failing the search function? Edit: Balota is right next to Cherno and Cherno is a lot bigger. Don't act stupid, unless you aren't acting. Then I'm sorry. And no, NWAF is by far not the north-end of the map. Look at the map again and tell me there is nothing above NWAF. You can run for a good 20 minutes extra up north from NWAF before you reach the "end" of the map.
  7. Because if games tried to realistically simulate the events of a persons death, the kids wouldn't think killing people would be so cool anymore. So they remove all the actually nasty things about death and keep the cool looking and sounding guns, explosions, pretty physics and the challenge of getting headshots just so that the FPS-gamers can keep enjoying their headshots and high kill-scores. I don't blame the gamers, though. If developers make war and violence into a light-hearted sport for gaming, I'll play it and enjoy it as a sport. Anyone who thinks that any game is showing realistic effects of killing people is a full-blown retard. No sane person who knows anything about actual war and death likes it, and therefore wouldn't want to experience it in a game either.

    DayZ Inventory Redesign

Nice design indeed, but in the end, though, I want to see an inventory system more based on the actual physical attributes of your clothing and bags. So for example you could fit some guns, depending on their sizes, into some pockets of your alice-bag and you would actually have to rearrange your cans to fill up the physical space of your bag. I honestly don't think it has to be overly complicated to implement such a system. It would be a sort of minigame when you open you back pack to move around the items and make them fit. Also weight being a factor, affecting your stamina and speed.

For those who don't know, ghillie suits

    As if stats mattered anyway.
  10. The only time I will ask for something to be changed because of balance issues rather than authenticism: Please remove NVGs and Thermal scopes. Ok, I don't really care about the thermal. If someone wants to stay scoped in for the entire play session then good on you. What I am concerned about are the NVGs. How is the dark night ever going to be an actually creepy and exciting atmospheric experience when only the poor unknowing noobs and NVG people are joining night-time servers? I love playing at night, but I'll just get killed if I don't have NVGs because others can see me clear as day when I think I'm being sneaky and invisible in the darkness of the forest. I'm sad because of this.

    Romero Zombie vs Rage Infected

What I like about the atmosphere in that mod is the 'slow and steady' type gameplay. Everything seems so speed up in DayZ when you (and all other players) are sprinting all over and forever across the map and the zeds are flying across the screen at 20 km/h whenever aggroed. Add to that you are always traveling and are usually geared just a few minutes after a respawn. You become careless and the atmosphere becomes incredibly game-y after playing 50+ hours. I love DayZ and all, but I would appreciate a more serious atmosphere. I want more "life" in the world, especially at night. I want a burning campfire, or a lit house powered by a generator in the dark night to inflict a sense of hope and comfort in players and not "Players! Loot!". Seeing that broadcast tower being lit up and that computer up top running gave a sense of the world being alive or at least not completely empty. I realize DayZ Chernarus is supposed to be dead and deserted, but even with 100 players surviving in that 225km^2 it is still always just dark and dead. Stumbling upon a band of bandits only happens through NVGs or during daylight. I guess I just want more possibilities for organization and a more serious pace of gameplay. The infected plays a part in it. Their animations and pathfinding should maybe be prioritized. The testing of DayZ becomes more enjoyable and there could finally be some valuable feedback on the atmosphere, since it will heavily change with tweaks of infected AI and texture, making feedback right not useless on that aspect of that game. Sorry for getting a little sidetracked. But when it comes to the infected AI more specifically, I think they should be exactly as fast as the player while a stamina-system stops you from sprinting forever. I think there should be a "fuck fuck fuck fuck" panic feeling when aggroing (and please make ammo more valueable, resulting in wanting to try loose the zeds instead) because you need to be smart about where you make your turns. The zed is not getting tired, but you are.
  12. 95168 is 1.62 and is not compatible with any beta-build lower than that. At the moment it kind of sucks, because none of my favorite servers are using it...
  13. Still nothing about any change since 94918.
  14. Didn't notice much difference, myself, other than the fact that none of the servers I consider reliable are using this patch, making it impossible to play. Also, the changelog posted few posts above says nothing about what changed.
  15. Please don't have the game make use of random ambiance that does not reflect the actual environment. It takes away from the experience after a while when you start discarding sounds as literally being caused by nothing at all. If all noise in the game would come from actual physical objects it is sure to be a lot more scarier hearing a metal object dropping on concrete a dark and silent night in the center of a small town. I would love more scary background music, though :) I like the music currently in place, but I'd like more variety and something to make things feel a bit creepier. :)
  16. Right-click and save the link (from what they posted here, I just kept spamming it until it didn't ask)
  17. I am super-extremely happy you made this thread and that Rocket replied to it is sugar on the tit, or whatever. I'm lazy when it comes to making threads or write-ups, but I meant to make a suggestion thread about " I don't think Day Z needs supernatural horror but needs to be creepier (see the 'I found a radio' thread)". Now I can go back to tearing my hairs out over servers rejecting my bad version.
  18. Am I seriously alone in getting "Bad version, server rejected connection"? Maybe I'm retarded or just blind, but I can't find any solution to this. I've looked through the threads about the beta updates, did everything you can do relating to battleeye and beta patches (reinstalling, replacing files, auto-patching, over and over with all the different relevant versions, etc). Can anyone give me a pointer here?
  19. There are a lot of great suggestions in this topic. What I personally would like to see in the game (that would help to create a more authentic social experience) is first of all the removal of kill counts and such. I'd like a more personal and emotional connection between players interacting. Most importantly something like (I've read and posted on this before) logs that works like auto-diaries, logging your adventures and all that happens to you and the world around you and that are available for pick-up by whoever comes across your dead body. You should of course be able to write in it as well, writing some in-character RP thingy about family or hopes and dreams, or, while bleeding out, write about you feelings for the one that shot you. Also a deep character customization every time you spawn. Forcing the player to specify the personality and really creating a new identity every time you spawn would create a more emotional connection to your character which WILL be gone forever upon death. The goal should be to make the player care more about their current character more than their equipment. Equipment can be reobtained and stored throughout several respawns, but the character who died will be forever gone from the world, with the only sign of their existence to be found in the pages of their friend's or their own diary (the diary should never despawn from the world, or should at least somehow always be available to find in the world, and character bodies shouldn't despawn either, but rather decay and become part of nature, leaving old equipment and skeleton remains to be found). To implement more emotion into the experience, we must look at psychological research of what triggers empathy and emotional attachments to other people or living beings. One of these triggers I know to be familiarity. To recognize yourself in another person's situation or history. Logs would do this in retrospect of a murder (but having a lasting effect on future decisions in similar situations). Guilt is another trigger, which would arise from committing an unjustified act of violence or oppression against others who only showed kindness. This is more tricky, but the effect could be replicated by having the default stance changed from weapon-at-the-ready to being empty-handed (which is honestly the only realistic default stance) and thus forcing murderers (who we now mistakenly label as bandits) to shoot their victims while they pose no threat, just like on the beach (I was jerking around the other day after being killed, axing people in Elektro; I snuck up on a fresh-spawn with a flashlight and axed him to the ground while he pleaded for mercy in deep despair - it was heart-breaking and I ended up giving him morphine, bandage and eventually sacrificing my own life to save his by running up to and axing a bandit dead while taking bullets point-blank). This should create a sense of guilt in a normal player and as such weed out the non-sociopaths from those more fitting the role of a cold-blooded murderer in DayZ. Traveling with no weapon readily in your hands would also enable actual acts of banditry/piracy/robbery and taking hostages (or just bullying) and automatically creates a clear visual distinction between people looking for trouble and those who don't (no need for bandit-skins).
  20. Bad version, server rejected connection. I bet it's great in-game.
  21. "Bad version, Server rejected connection." That's been my gameplay experience since yesterday. I updated and back-downgraded BE manually. I've uninstalled BE and let the beta patches install it (tried 95054, 95099 and 95168) from scratch. I've deleted the beta folder and reinstalled all the beta versions, none of which solved it. I've tried different servers. Most will say "Bad version, server rejected connection.", others will say I was kicked because BE was not responding (at least I got past the lobby). Did I miss something or am I magically fucked in some different kind of way than everyone else?

This is a simulator not a game.

You get to have your own opinions, but you can't have your own facts. This game is being developed as a post-apocalyptic survival simulator and is built using an engine that is used to create simulators for military training and such around the world. Your understanding of the game does not affect its nature.
  23. Will this result in DayZ never getting ragdoll physics? :(

FOR SCIENCE! (NPC Scientists "develop" story)

I love every word of this post. I want more puzzles and backstory. I want the lore-pieces to be creepy, exciting, complex and lead to adventures for those seeking answers. I do support the use of NPC, provided they are not a central part of the experience in the game. NPC scientists though, I don't agree to. If they were alive, the players would only get frustrated because they won't be able to provide the answers one would want and expect upon meeting them. NPC's would also have to play simple roles, such as mercenaries to guard a camp in exchange for supplies. <- Would help with establishing bases, which atm lacks security even if you do find an awesome spot.
  25. Yeah, and because it's white, I was trying to find something less obvious. It's nearly impossible to keep a car when playing solo. I found an ATV (someone tried to cross the bridge S of Vybor.. :) I bumped it back on its wheels with the truck and spend over an hour hoarding parts to repair it. When I just needed two more wheels I drove it to Pustoshka, tried to park it near the warehouse, clipped a road light thingy and it stuck. Then it exploded. With my DMR and everything I was gonna take back to camp for the day. FML. It was after that I took the truck to go look for more vehicles and the server crashed and stayed down and I had to go to sleep. There went my AS50. Shitty day. EDIT: Oh yeah, did I mention my tent was wiped with the server crash? -.-
