How do you think DayZ Standalone is going?

Lots of good points made in this thread. For me, I'll keep it (fairly) short and sweet: I've been a huge BIS fan since Operation Flashpoint demo downloaded on my 56k modem in the year 2001. Sunk hundreds, no, thousands of hours into BIS's games and of course DayZ mod. In the end of the day large amounts of money destroys even the most honest and community- driven studios. Money and ego destroy countless games (and movies etc). It happened to Blizzard when they got stupidly rich after WoW, and Diablo III suffered as a result. Now it has happened to DayZ and I've already accepted that I had my best dayz already in the mod, and the standalone will never reach it's potential. At least not at this very, very slow rate. When you have millions/billions of dollars in profit, the wishes of the fans who supported the game from day zero become irrelevant and the wishes of men in suits become king. Or it can go as far as the lead designer insulting the core fans of the game because of their huge ego (Jay Wilson with Diablo III) I'm sad about DayZ standalone, but at least ARMA III is still good and is well-supported and staffed... 2. Since it's going to take forever either way for this game to come out, why not just take a few steps back and build it with the ARMA3 engine? At least it will be a smoother and prettier experience when the game reaches full completion in 2015/ 2016...
  3. The fact that he has 10 months left wouldn't be a problem if it didn't take over a year to finish just 15-20% of the game. Unless BI pump some much-deserved resources into the game that made them rich in the first place, then it isn't going to reach its potential. I have a feeling the main problem isn't even with rocket, but the way BIS have handled the situation. Leaving the standalone to be developed by a small team while all the resources were spent on ARMA3. The correct thing to do, I think, would be to use some of the huge cash made from ARMA2:CO and ARMA3 to hire a large team to develop DayZ parallel to ARMA3, all using the ARMA3 engine and not wasting time with the tired old ARMA2 engine. Lack of foresight and negligence seems to have killed the momentum of this game :/
  4. My main problem with the whole thing isn't the price- it's the speed of development. BIS have huge funds from great sales of Arma2:CO, Arma 3, and DayZ standalone. But DayZ seems to advance at a snail's pace. I would happily pay $50 to $80 if the game had more content. Also, I would be happy to wait until 2015 if they were modding the ARMA3 engine to suit DayZ. But as it stands the so called "rebuilding the engine from the ground up" so far just feels like nicer textures, light shafts, and more object models. Otherwise I would say the experience is even clunkier than the original mod! *SIgh*
  5. Alienware is great... as long as you don't go for the full spec builds. If you wan to run DayZ really well I recommend skipping the m14X and going for the m17x with 7970m. Should cost you about $1,700 which isn't so bad
  6. Totally agreed, I gutted a chicken today and 20 zombies shows up like I had opened a KFC diner with blasting music playing...

What if we removed the crosshair?

Also I must say I enjoyed reading this thread- good arguments from both sides and well written posts. It's great :)

What if we removed the crosshair?

So, 20 pages of opinions, the vast majority want crosshairs removed. I think you have your answer Rocket ;)
  9. Well I'm glad you found a friendly Russian player- I only played once with a Russian who was friendly. The other 97% were ruthless and would just KOS.

DayZ SA: One Key One Character

Also for the clan dudes, there can be a field where you change your clan tag anytime, but your main name stays. For the people saying "but what if I want to be a hero after being a bandit" Do the time, sonny. Get a pile of bloodbags and bandages and get to work  B)
  11. Is this "30% chance to fail" thing still happening? Please tell me it isn't. As much as I love Diablo 2 this isn't Diablo 2. "Knife has 70% chance of striking animal" Ethereal (Cannot be repaired)..." "+3 Infernal matches of burning: Ingites campfire. 70% chance of not turning into a soggy useless box." If durability is a thing, it can just blunt gradually until it becomes useless and you have to pick up another knife. Then somebody who comes about the discarded knife in a supermarket can curse the guy that left it there. Same thing with empty cans. Every time you eat a can of beans or sardines you can leave the empty can behind, or keep it with you and discard it later so you don't leave a trail. In fact, maybe empty cans should never spawn and only be left behind by real players, and other players can inspect them to see how long they've been left there (wet sauce vs old dried sauce)... Knife sharpness and number of matches left in a box can be displayed as a green bar exactly the same as on an ammo clip/ magazine. Because in real life, just as you can check a magazine and count the bullets, you can also inspect a blade and count matches in a box. I think it's silly that my matches will randomly be wet even if I haven't gone swimming.
