  1. Possibly the funniest unintentional humour I've seen on this site.
  2. Yeah the second one's a Mosin I'm pretty sure, and I'm also pretty sure that will be in the SA.
  3. Type: Predominantly AM style talk-show Language(s): English Time Zone: Around +10:00 GMT, but open to any I'd prefer someone from the +8:00 to +12:00 time zones, but I'll be happy to work with anyone provided they bow down and submit to my will don't mind some of the hassles attributed to time zone differences. We'll brainstorm ideas if I reply to you, but I want it to be some sort of talk show. If you'd like to apply, submit a short paragraph on why you want to do this, maybe some suggestions for the show and if you seem interesting I'll PM you back! I imagine about 3-5 people would be good for this, but absolutely no more than 5.
  4. Personally I hope the radios have a channel devoted to the lives of Worker & Parasite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR7m-4Vc3MU Some great ideas here though. I love that crafting will be complex enough to encourage specialists. I made a post a couple of days back about wanting crafting books in the game, but if it's like this then that would be way better. When I saw stuff spawning under the bed.... hells yeah! Simple but realistic features like that are always good. Complex medicine system, heaps of different meds for different diseases. LOVE IT. With the ability to closely examine items, you'd soon see what treats what, but at least this is a step towards bringing us back towards that uncertainty that made almost everyone fall in love with the game when we first started playing. This is making me really excited, although there are a few basic mechanics that people have mentioned - running speed, zombie pathfinding - that should be cleared up by now, or at least soonish. No excuse for a pathfinding system shown months ago not being in the game by this stage. On radios again - if there are a few people wanting to do an AM-style talk show, I would love get something started with you!
  5. Preferably this entire get-up, but I'll settle for the flip-cocking Winchester 1887 :D

    Magnum Revolver

This is a pretty small suggestion, but I think it would really make handgun play a lot more interesting. Instead of (as well as?) the revolver using .45 ACP ammo, I think it should take some form of magnum ammo. This is more in line with what I - and I'm sure many others - imagine when I think of a revolver. Either some form of iconic calibre, like the .357 or .44 ("It'll blow your head clean awff"), or perhaps the newer .460, which it seems could tear through an entire person. Obviously this would increase revolver strength - possibly one shot kill, at most two - so revolvers would have to be more rare. Or if .45 ACP is kept and Magnum ammo is like a secondary type, then the Magnum ammo would be rare. And maybe make it a single-action, i.e. you have to manually cock the gun before firing the trigger. But this would make handgun play alot more interesting. All handguns are now are barely even zed killers; you'd be lucky if you knocked down a viral with an entire round of anything other than a G17. Suddenly there would be a handgun which can be hidden like a secondary and lethal like a primary, plus with the longest range of all secondaries (100m), this would be quite an acceptable primary weapon. Plus it would be so badass, and I don't think I would ever get tired of the Dirty Harry impressions.
  7. So just to get things clear: The SA itself wouldn't be able to block the programs, or just the servers wouldn't be able to? Not asking for the pros and cons of either, just a simple answer.
  8. Yeah I'm not that knowledgeable about computers, so I don't know to what extent programs or servers can block other programs. But when Inception ruined the poll with his bloody post I had to add another option! - Kidding Inception :)
  9. You don't? :P Yeah it's a touch unrealistic, but more authentic. That's right, I went there. Realism calls for a 30cm whisper channel and 5 metre talk channel. I think the shout is realistic, I am imagining it more of a coo-ee/emergency style yell as opposed to something just louder than talking.
  10. Thanks to you I have to edit the poll now!

    More vehicle parts

I think apart from batteries - which we definitely need - most other things are too nitpicky to add before they improve other issues with the game. And don't we already have fueltanks? If a weight-style inventory is where we're headed, then it will be nigh on impossible to build/repair a car without a proper base system. I'm a small details kinda guy, and I think in a real apocalypse people would fit their cars with all kinds of accessories and add ons like metal armor for instance. But DayZ right now doesn't have any capacity to keep cars safe. If we're talking realism - and I hate to use this argument in an apocalypse game - people would be hiding cars under makeshift ghillie tarps, inside abandoned buildings and whatnot. People would mod their cars because they could keep them safe. Right now it'd be pointless putting add ons on a car when you know it could be stolen within a day or two. I do think though, with an advanced base building system that improving cars will become an increasingly important aspect of the game. A car will become an extension of the people using it, and become the pride and joy of a group, as well as being the most badass piece of machinery around. And I do mean people. There is almost no way with a weight system that one person could realistically repair a car within a reasonable time frame.
  12. While the coding is unbalanced, the actual effect is zero at the moment. In 1.7.7.1, all pistols (with the possible exception of the revolver, although I think that too) are doing 889 damage. It has taken me two rounds of an M1911 to kill a viral. But yeah there is a problem with the balance issue at the core of it. For those wondering, the damage system works like this:
  13. To be perfectly honest, it wasn't the knock down either for me. It's a nice idea, but a little too useless in its current guise. Definitely needs to be made tougher. For me though it was that you simply could not lose agro. The fact that they were no longer a nuisance, that you had to deal with them, and they completely gave me in-the-moment immersion. I didn't worry about what was next, all that mattered was getting rid of them somehow. With PvP, unless it's a CQC gunfight, I have so many thoughts running through my head. "Have they seen me?" "Are they a threat?" "Could they be a threat?" "Are they friendly?" "Do they need help?" "Who has the advantage if I approach?" "Are there any environmental advantages I could utilise?" "What's my entry plan?" "What's my exit plan now?" "What's my post-approach exit plan?" And there's so many sub-questions within each of those. That's what makes the game great. But the awesome thing about zombies in 1.7.7 was that you had two choices: avoid them unless entirely necessary, and kill them if you can't avoid them. They wouldn't give up. There was no chance they were friendly. They hunted in packs. They were killing machines. Because they were so singular, all the questions above are answered. No time to worry about some other threat. I want them like that again!
  14. They weren't 'just a nuisance' in 1.7.7, and seeing as that's exactly what you described as 'getting stupid', I'd say you do care.

    The Best Looking Gun?

When I saw that badboy in Hitman 2 for the first time... pants did need changing.
  16. This might be the best 'sit down shut up' post I've ever seen. And I'm one of the dudes who vouches for 1st person only! EDIT: Getting back to OP, who it seems is no longer with us due to death by bad suggestion, that is a very bad idea for all the reasons listed above. No.
  17. I couldn't agree with this more. And that's not a knock on the game, it's just a natural outcome of familiarity and experience. To the OP, if you're looking for that feeling you felt when you first played DayZ, I don't think you'll find it in the SA. It'll be a great game, but nothing can compare to when we first started playing. Everyone had seen a few videos before they played - my first was Frankie's Ep. 29, housemate showed it to me - but you didn't really know what to expect. Daytime was creepy, like an apocalypse should be. Empty, broken civilisation and untouched nature. Just follow the roads! But nighttime was out of this world. I had nothing. I knew nothing. I would occasionally see a road and giggle with delight, but every other time I would just head for the highest ground, hoping to see something. The smallest find would bring out the biggest joy. Little unnamed villages now aren't even a stopgap on any trip I take, but back then I would search every house and every backyard feverishly for any item. Those were the days when you didn't know how long you could last without food or drink, or how many hits a zombie could dish out, where exactly items spawned in buildings, which buildings you could go into. Before you knew where anything was or how good a certain weapon was. We won't feel anything like that again with DayZ. A new game, maybe, but that's it. But that's what survival would be like. The first few days, you're happy just to be alive, every discovery is worth tears of joy. But as you get older, wiser, more cynical, with less hope, you know what to expect from things. You know how to do things. The magic is gone, but now you live longer. You live outside of emotion now. After making it past the first few days, you can't rely on luck anymore - you're a survivor. You don't have the luxury of living, of letting your emotions get in the way. You only survive. Intense narrative there, but seriously. We don't find joy from finding things anymore, but we still find joy in the small things. You just have to discover what that is for yourself. One thing I do is imagine every vehicle as a military sortie, sent here to exterminate any moving object. The 'me against them' mentality almost helps bring me back to the early dayz of DayZ. Hiding from any loud noise, waiting in a bush, deciding whether to strike or to slink away. That is what gets me now. Make your own story and find your own small joys :)

    The Best Looking Gun?

M9 SD. The Beretta is just beautiful, and a silencer on anything makes it look so good.
  19. Two main things I regret, both happened today. First: letting my guard down completely for the first time ever. I was playing after work, absolutely pooped. I put no value on my life; I ran up to two different groups in Solnichniy across open fields. My intentions were good - I wanted to help get them away from zombies - but my behaviour was that of a madman. Luckily, both groups were actually friendly. I then hung around with the second on top of the roof of the second tallest building in the factory north of Solnichniy. In other words, I was complete sniper fodder for anyone who knows the area. Again, I was lucky enough to not get killed somehow. My stupidity finally caught up with me though. Minutes after leaving the second group, I was running west up the hill near the factory when I saw two players getting chased by a zombie. I didn't even talk to them in chat, I just killed a zed, put a bandage on, and as I was bandaging myself one of them hacked me with his machete. I didn't even feel bad about dying, I knew I deserved it. Second: I respawned at Three Valleys, pretty close to where I died. So I thought I'd look for the survivors that killed me. After stocking up with a few weapons, I found two players outside the factory again, with what appeared to be my gear (one had a revolver, the other an Enfield). With about 3000 health and an infection, I managed to shoot one of them with my new revolver enough for him to require bandaging. They couldn't see me, so they just ran north towards Berezino. I followed them, because I was sure these were the people that killed me. So I was chasing them in the forest, from a distance of about 200m. They were pretty dumb, right next to each other and obviously not looking back because they would've seen me otherwise. Then they started shooting some zeds with the dinner bell - at this point I had about 1500 health so I thought I might as well kill them because I'm dying anyway. I ducked behind a tree, and (it was quite a good shot, might I say), with vision blurred and pulsing and shaking, managed to headshot one of them from about 50m. Then the other one flanked me and killed me, and I realised that she was a girl - it was two men who killed me originally. So yeah, first ever kill completely unprovoked, and in cold blood. Pretty average form by me tonight.
  20. You do know that's an urban myth, right? It was concocted by twits who don't like low-riding pants.

    Inventory system concept

Excellent work! I'd give you an MRE, but I only have beans :( A few of my thoughts: It's too big, covering the whole screen and blurring the rest. This will eliminate any perception of surroundings The item size system appears a touch complex. I like it in the sense that it's realistic, i.e. you would never think IRL wearing an ALICE pack 'oh I have 13 items in here, that means space for three more!'. But it needs to be cleaned up a little bit. For instance, even if all your slots were empty, judging purely by size, the jerrycan still wouldn't fit anywhere. The 'on the ground' tab needs to have item sizes resembling their 'in inventory' sizes. It seems that the bottom bar is essentially a speed dial for 10 different items. So long as this is only for items in your shirt, vest or on your body, it would be great. I think having it as a quick select for any 10 items is a bit unrealistic though. Other than a bit of constructive criticism though, this really is an exquisite design and layout. I would love to see this in the SA.
  22. Zombie Disguise Input: 1x Blood Bag (w/human blood) OR 1x Syringe (w/zombie blood) Output: Zombie Disguise Tools: Hunting Knife Failchance: 0 Enchantments: if syringe used 50% chance of infection ActionType: Clothing A few notes: In the patch/SA in which this is implemented, there should also be a 'zed stance'. This makes you stand and walk exactly like a zed - without zombie noises of course. This will be used to try and fool other players. Of course, if only the stance is used, very few survivors and no zombies will be fooled. However, with a ripped shirt and pants thanks to hunting knife, and some human blood on your clothes, face and arms thanks to a blood bag, the look will be very effective and you will closely resemble a zombie. Real zeds won't be fooled however, because you have fresh blood on you, and smell like a delicious snack. So for the people wanting to fool zombies as well, you can extract zombie blood from a dead zombie with a syringe and apply it on yourself. To make this a fair risk-reward scenario, imagine that there is a 50% chance the blood enters your body, either through eyes, mouth, nose, or maybe a cut on your arms, and infects you.
  23. Zombie #21 I like the addition of virals, but why did you audition new guys for the role? I've been here working my arse off since 1.62 and no reward! It makes me so angry. I just want to bandit other zombies now... Zombie #10024 Rocket said there were chicks on this island man, fuck this I'm going back to Walking Dead Zombie #755 Cherno gameplay is too easy. I mean, I like that it's PvP, and we just pick up the remains. But it was better when I was stationed in Msta and you'd really have to work for it. PATIENT ZERO Guys, didn't you see the Frankie video? I'm cured, we can stop this now. Guys?
