I've made plenty of posts suggesting things where people, especially noobs, would complain for being "too hard". Therefore, you have my beans! This is no game for noobs, for those who give up easily, for children. I hope it stays that way

When and where from did you heard about DayZ and what forced you to buy it?
Lewf replied to borntobewild's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was telling a friend about ZombiU, when he told me about how he liked to watch video on this mod game called DayZ, after watching all SideStrafe videos i felt like i had to buy it -
On the wait for the next update.... Damn, you guys must be having a lot of work there for all this silence and time

I was thinking about making some suggestions and this would help me understand how do most people play in their first few hours (deaths) and what your experiences are with this game. Thanks for voting!

There i was, reading through my facebook feed, and among many smart asses, hipster wannabes, and just plain stupid people, I find this text by IGN: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/20/why-gamers-are-gluttons-for-punishment And you know what? What a perfect way to explain why do I love DayZ so much. Sure, hackers everywhere spoil the game completely for no good reason other than to piss people off, and the PVP has gone out of control... But why do I still play? Call me a masochist, but the punishment of dying "permanently" keeps me going. I actually feel bad if I'm living for too long in this game. It is somewhat satisfying after days of survival to be shot by some KoS douche bag, and start all over. Zero itens, as I don't keep tents anywhere. I like to think of what will I do next, what should my plans be, wonder what awaits me in the wonderful world that is DayZ. All I can say is I can't wait for the standalone. I'm sure this feeling will be multiplied by the fantastic new features that await us. We are counting on you Rocket!

I really like the apranoia, but its been talked about a bunch already...

Replacing the epi-pen for an adrenaline shot would be pretty cool. Good idea!
-
Shit! you got me...
-
He is just a plain asshole, apparently, who adds nothing to the game or the forum
-
I would love to hear more of the car jacking one! sounds fun and exciting
-
Be careful with the hackers!
-
This game has no place for cheating other than simple, idiotic trolling of people who have nothing to do with their lives
-
In case you don't know, that building was probably a firehouse and you wer ein a big town (either cherno or elektro), most definitely. Especially cause those are the 2 big sniper spots nowadays
-
Zombies need to be the main threat. I completely disagree when people say "what about the poor little defenseless noobs? QQ" I say this is the "real world" and those who cant live in it will have to either learn or GTFO
-
Is your tent still there? The tent itself? If it is, you were robbed by someone, probably
-
I liked the idea until this magical barrier... why would you need fences and wires if there is a barrier? lol. Now, putting a flag claiming an area is a nice idea, as long as other problem can, in some way, infiltrate or destroy your base. Then we are talking

Hello everyone, and thanks for visiting the topic! You may skip to "my proposal" if you don't wanna read all this Today i wanna be specific about the loot in DayZ. I just wanna point out something before I begin: DO NOT consider duping and hacking. That has been way exhausted, everyone knows they are an issue and they are being worked on. Now that we got that out of the way, let me start by making an statement, and I believe i speak for everyone when I say: LOOT IS TOO COMMON Yes, yes, that has been exhausted too, I suppose... I mean, look at this guy's post, note he is a new player: So yeah, he's got an m16a2 and an m9 in under 15 minutes being a "noob", I guess you guys got the point, right? Now take that, and multiply by the factor that we have a huge public hive, in which people can easily go to a small populated server out there (we have plenty of them available), go to a big town, or heck, maybe even the NWAF, and EASILY get everything they need and want, from a can of beans to a freaking l85, and move on to a populated server and do what they want. Now here's my comment on that: It kills the whole point of the game. This is not CoD, BF3. You are supposed to have a hard time gearing up. As someone said in another topic of mine: screw them, that doesn't affect me Well, it actually does in some ways, and I'll leave that for you guys to figure out by yourselves. Besides, this is a game that shouldn't be played like that. People are missing the point of this game. Also, noone other than Rocket and his team can do anything to change the game, so our "job" here is to make suggestions, discuss them and maybe they will be introduced in the game. I know, I know. Much of what i said has been said so many times.... But now let's get to the new part: MY PROPOSAL: Balance the loot so it is easier to find in servers with more people and much harder to find in servers with 0-10 people. That would help stop those who gear up in low-pop servers just because it's there and it's easy. Some will say: QQ my playstyle is forever alone and I like to play with few people. I say FINE, this could only be applied to the big public hive and the private hive servers could be out of that, as some simply prefer to play with less people. Why not? So.... I wanna hear what you guys think! Thank you for reading

Do you have a blood bag?

Some basic survivals items, such as matches, should have some chances of showing up in some other buildings, I agree. However, food and water is way too common, and should be more scarce (IMO). But again, that's not the point of my topic. The point is: solving the problem of people going to low-pop servers to get high graded gear easily And btw, yes, at a bussines stand point, it is not good to keep casual gamers out. But again, I don't see Rocket worried about them. I see Rocket wanting to make the game real, scary, difficult and for those who want to spend some time on it. I may be wrong, but that's how i see it, and I make my suggestions based on that.

I don't believe KoS would change that much with my proposal. I mean, the way loot spawns are today, do you see people letting go of others if they have better gear? No, probably not. I think that issue would be addressed in other ways, but those solutions are for another topic.... Sometimes i feel like I'm not playing the same game and reading the same Rocket posts, etc, as other people. I mean, am I really getting this wrong? Since when is DayZ a game for casuals? And I'm not suggesting for them to make loot rare for ALL SERVERS. I am suggesting to making them rare for public servers on the OFFICIAL hive for servers under 10 people to stop the people who server hop (in many cases) or go to small servers JUST TO GEAR UP. Most of the times i do find a gun in a firestation or a barrack, btw :/

Trial by combat FTW!

Again, I don't wanna talk about hackers or dupers here... Those have already been talked about and Rocket already said he is gonna do his best against those. I want to add one thing, to those who say noobs wouldn't like it: 1-Read my first post entirely, specially that little quote right there 2-The game is supposed to be hard. Its not for QQs or casual gamers

As the old topic kind of died and no real conclusion was made, I decided I wanted to give this topic another try, this time with all the ideas summarized in my first post for the people that only read he first post then comment. So here it is: PROBLEM: As people play the game and learn to survive, they tend to not fear their deaths anymore. When you are fully geared up, you know you will have those tents of yours, so when you die, you can simply go to them and get your gear back. Another way to get your gear back is simply going to your old body which, in many cases, will still be there (as many bandits kill people and don't even have the decency of looting their victims). So I ask you. What is the point of permanent death? This is what made the game so new and exciting for most people, and it has lost its essence as people get geared up in a matter of minutes. However, what I want to focus more about is the lack of fear of death when you have just spawned. When you spawn, you have pretty much nothing, so what is the problem if you die? NONE I would say. I see people running around the towns (because zombies will never kill someone who has spent more than 1 day in this game as zombies are easily lost) like they don't even care if they die. It is the permanent death concept losing its value! Why should I be careful if in a few seconds i will be back to exactly what i had? I believe the permanent death is what made this game so different from the Call of Dutys out there. Right now i feel like we are losing it, and we need to get it back! So here are some of the solutions I thought of and gathered from some other topics: SOLUTIONS: 1 - The timer The first solution that came to my head and most people hated (and so did I) was to add a timer to relog in the game after you died. This timer would be higher (let's say, but not necessarily, 1 hour) if you died in the first 5 minutes of your life. I had this in mind due to people killing themselves so they could spawn in better places (which removing the respawn button did absolutely nothing to stop) and also so people would be more careful at least in their first minutes of life when they have nothing to lose if they die. Many problems came with this solution, of course. Let's say you just spawned and an asshole killed you right there in the spawn location. You would have to wait an hour just to log in because of something you couldn't even dodge. Also, what about the new players? Those would be really pissed and in a huge disadvantage by dying in their first few minutes. Not to mention many of us don't have much time to play at all, and wasting our precious times because of a silly mistake or an asshole would be awful. Anyway, this brings us to a next proposal of solution: 2 - The debuffs What if, when you died too quickly (let's say 15 minutes) you spawned with some problems? Here are some examples: -Less maximum blood (temporarily) -Less accuracy -Making more noise -Make your character slower -Less visibility -More prone to being incapacitated, especially by zombies -Faster bleeding Someone in the old topic also posted this: -"Start with half the blood you would normally start with if you died 3-5 times within an hour?" This would give you enough incentive to not kill yourself so quickly and not to run around like you don't care about your life and die quickly because you would respawn anyway. 3 - Getting temporarily kicked out Another suggestion I made was to make your permanent death really permanent by server. Let's say you are fully geared up and die. Today, many would simply run to their bodies (probably respawning many times to get the closest location to where you died) and simply get your stuff back. Now what if, when you died, you wouldn't be able to get into that server again until it restarted (consequently your body would disappear). This is viable today becasue we have around 5000 around, and one can easily find another server to play at. It would also help cut the "killing yourself just so you can respawn" problem, because noone wants to keep changing servers every 5 minutes. 4 - The discriminative timer An idea thought by Flybynight1: 1. New player >24 hours game time - spawn as per usual 2. Novice >48 hours game time - may spawn XX minutes after death 3. Expert >60 hours of game time - may spawn XXX minutes after death On the noob problem: Now many would say: what about the noobs? Then I say: noobs are more careful. They would survive for more than 15 minutes. Take a look at this poll i created: http://dayzmod.com/f...es/#entry873682 As you can see, more than 70% of noobs (at the time I wrote this) were living more than the first 15 minutes of their play. If you read the comments, you will see that many of the ones who died before their first 15 minutes were due to playing at night (complete darkness) or maybe those who died too quickly even saw something positive in it. It gave them more will to learn to play the game. This game is all about being difficult, being hard to survive, fearing death. A couple months ago many would say Rocket was being sadistic! But look at what the game has become: over 1.2 million players, with a standalone coming out! Thank you all for reading, if you even read. I hope this goes somewhere with a real solution this time!

I do agree those issues need immediate attention, and i'm sure Rocket and the Devs are working as we type. However, those issues have been exhausted now, we all not them. I'm talking about AFTER they get fixed

There should be no high grade weapons in standalone
Lewf replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well said! Some people need to understand they either enjoy it or leave it. This game has become super popular and people are trying to change it to the average game we have on the market. This is NOT an average game, it's a hardcore survival simulation (as far as i understand) which might have gotten too popular now.
