  1. Like I said earlier though, Rocket isn't one of them. I really don't know why people make opinion threads so often here. Who are you trying to convince? If it's other players, why bother? And if it's Rocket, well, do you really want him to base his game off of opinionated posts in these forums?

    The PvP Discussion Thread

You make some good points there, and I think this argument (like many) is more a matter of which direction Rocket wishes to go, so it's probably best we simply agree to disagree. I doubt we're doing much good arguing about this anyway when we could be shooting at each other in-game! :D But I'd like to point out you're using 'descriminatory' in an argument about game mechanics, which, again, should be based on direction, balance and overall fun: Not feelings.

    The PvP Discussion Thread

The issue here is just that: fair balance. I agree that people should be free to do as they wish in the game. That is, after all, the entire idea of DayZ! But since, as I have previously said, word of mouth does not work from server to server, and that currently the deck is stacked hugely in bandits' favour (After all, it's hard to get a group of four together and try and construct a car - not so hard to snipe survivors in Chern), fair balance WILL discriminate, no matter how slightly, against bandits. The bandit skin system isn't perfect. But it's a good start.
  4. I'd just do so in advance, Oktyabr. ;)

    The PvP Discussion Thread

Pretend killing someone in a pretend scenario in a pretend environment does not 'really evil' make. I think the romanticism has gotten out of hand here, the idea of bandits being some kind of chatoic evil as opposed to just guys sitting at keyboards killing other players is a bit overboard. Same goes for nice survivors being some kind of savior, as opposed to just being friendly guys. Acting as if this is a realistic simulation of the downfall of society is just plain silly. I understand that role playing is an important part of this game. But keep in mind it is a game. While playing, sure, pretend all you want - but when it comes to game mechanics, it has to be thought of in terms of the game and that alone.
  6. First: I agree with you entirely. Second: So does Rocket, evidenced by practically every one of his posts. Third: I don't really think we need a thread for this. That being said, it's good to see people are aware of what DayZ is meant to be. :)

    The PvP Discussion Thread

The only issue is that it's very hard to spread word of mouth across so many servers. While you may become well known as a bandit on one server, with or without your costume, on another server, no-one may know who you are. But there are other issues tied to server hopping, and this is one of the minor ones.

    No girl characters?

Haha, damn right. I agree that there are plenty of females out there who can kick (my) ass. But when it comes down to this scenario, it doesn't matter who's stronger: It's about who's the one with the gun. The only difference between a female and a male is that a female is a much more valuable commodity, if you get my drift.

    improved map

Very nice. My only complaint is the icons could be smaller, to give more of a precise location - but then again I'm a picky bastard. ;)

    No girl characters?

Actually, STALKER 2 was planned to have females. Why, I have no goddamn idea. In all honesty, does anyone really think a female would last very long in the Zone? It's got nothing to do with how tough or smart she may be, it's simply the fact that when you put a girl into a locale with a few hundred men who haven't seen a breast in months, she's going to be worth plenty of beans.

    Map is too big?

I fully agree with Mr Delicious. It's like I always say to prospective mates: It's not about the size, it's about what you're doing with it.
  12. Well, looks like I can't trust you after all. Anyway, this is becoming much more personal than it needs to be. I think that for the most part, the argument has run its course: It's more up to Rocket now than anything else.

    No girl characters?

Of ALL the threads to repost, you had to pick this one? Reported, and goddamn, use the search function.
  14. If you've really played the original Shogun: Total War, then you'd know that at best you could call it a flawed masterpiece, and at worst you could call it a broken clusterfuck. Regardless, Feature Creep can be controlled well. But with a small team, it's impossible to maintain.
  15. It is both. PVP is an integral part of the mod, Rocket has said so repeatedly.
  16. Kenny, that's hardly a good addition to the discussion, and '/thread' just shows an unbelievable amount of arrogance and ignorance.
  17. Greyfuch's coast idea is a good one for new players, but once you start getting a better 'lay of the land', it's preferable to go inland a little or stick to the woods to avoid Chern and Elektro.
  18. Alright, just wanted a heads up from you, since I wasn't aware if on these forums reporting was reserved for bannable offenses. Shall do so from now on.
  19. Roadsigns are your friends! It also helps a lot to meet up with those other than your friends. Even if you split up with them later, it's always good to stick together in a group when going through a large city (Which you often will to find friends).

    Day Z Kickstarter

Already a thread for this. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1011 Please search the forums before making a new thread. As well as that, we have more Australian servers right now than we do for most non-professional games, so unless you're about to put out the dosh for another, I wouldn't be complaining.
  21. Are we free to report threads that are just reposts of other threads?
  22. Console guy? Console guys are the PROBLEM. Instead of wanting a polished and complete game, they're content to have new 'features'. (Oh boy! The next Call of Duty has a remote control car bomb!) Regardless, what you just read is what practically every successful developer agrees upon. Gabe Newell and Sid Meier, two of the most prolific developers in video game history, have both described this issue in length. For example, the 'adhesive paint gun' which was originally going to be part of Portal 2, and was ENTIRELY coded, modelled and implemented, was removed before release, simply because it didn't quite fit in. Sid Meier described implementing more features as a negative issue as well:
