    The "Hardcore" base

Some people should. Why? Because the masses are stupid and lazy. I'm not being elitist here. I am very stupid and lazy about a good many things. I understand the concept of an internal combustion engine but I'll be damned if I care to learn enough to repair my car. I don't know what is best for my car and so take the advise of those with the experience in fixing my car. You wouldn't want me pushing legislation through congress that states that all cars must switch over to diesel fuel without understanding the difference in how that compared to gasoline affects the engine. However if an expert found a great source for Bio-diesel maybe it would be best for everyone if he did help push such legislation through even though I personally prefer gasoline(or in my case a Hybrid) cars. People who can't grasp concepts in game shouldn't dictate a watering down of gameplay to accommodate for them. It's a game. There are dozens and dozens of games that are not as "hardcore" as DayZ but similar in style that you could let us have DayZ as dictated by our choices instead of the masses.
  2. Which is plausible if you actually pay attention to such things and read up on virology. At least something approximating the infected we have in game.

    The "Hardcore" base

I'm not labeling myself or expecting extra entitlement. When I state something I give reasons for it. What I don't do is state that just because someone prefers something that preference is fine contrary to evidence. As I stated earlier, Hardcore/Casual is probably a scale with a lot of factors moving you up or down it. Do we want to quantify all the factors so we can put people precisely on the scale? I don't think so because I don't think it matters where you fall on it. However it would be silly to proclaim that two people with all other factors of the game being the same are playing with the same difficulty level if one game had nametags on and the other does not. TPV is similar. This isn't strictly a TPV thread, it is about "Hardcore" the phrase and using it. Is playing on a No-Nametag server more "Hardcore" than playing on a Nametag enabled server all other consideration equal? Yeah, it is. You can't tell there is someone lurking if they disguise themselves well and use cover. Does that make a player on such a server a "Hardcore" player? No, but it does mean they are a bit more Hardcore than someone on a Nametag enabled server. It also gives them insight that someone who doesn't play on that sort of server might not have. For example, Thermal sites on a Nametag server might not be a big deal because they only reveal a bit more information and the limit your field of view. If you sweep your aimpoint around you can trigger the nametag for someone hidden in a bush that the Thermal scope would also notice. On a non-nametag server though, that thermal scope might take on a whole extra level of power because there really is no way someone without one can otherwise detect the careful lurker. So the balance of that scope varies depending on how the game is setup. Thus an opinion that Thermal Scopes are fine and dandy and give no real great advantage can be formed by someone who is on a Nametag server and be completely wrong when discussing if they are powerful over all.

Yeah, actually it does, because, and here is the novel idea for you, ~opinions can be wrong~.

    The "Hardcore" base

Yes, but at the same time some people don't want the Stand Alone to become an experience like CoD where you go, "I'm out of ammo. I'll commit suicide so I can get a gun that has ammo because death doesn't matter." We also don't want people committing suicide because antibiotics are only in very limited locations, extremely rare, and you get infected every hour of play or so. The main reason that some of us arguing for harder restrictions at least at first in DayZ SA is because it is ALWAYS easier to loosen up restrictions than to tighten them if you find something is not working. So let's start with some of the more difficult setting and then loosen them up if that seems too hard. Why is it that the "harder" setting in the game remove TPV? Could it be that TPV makes the game easier? Making the game easier is more or less hardcore? While TPV is not what separates Hardcore from Softcore it is still a factor that leads to a more difficult game. Doing everything else the hard way in TPV is still hardcore and doing everything else the easy way in FPV is still Softcore, but TPV is an easier way to play a game and all other things equal makes the experience a bit less hardcore.

    *DAYZ SA SKIN SUGGESTIONS*

I don't know... if I have a gas mask like that I'll probably end up walking around asking other players, "Are you my mummy?" in a British accent.

    The "Hardcore" base

Context makes a difference. As to difficulty of the game the one in FPV will find Zeds more difficult to deal with than the one in TPV so if you are talking about something like Zed balance it is important as to if you are on a FPV server or not. Same with flying helicopters and such.

    DayZ Origins

I agree, but I have seen servers that specifically state that Section B is PVE only and anyone shooting at players while in Section B will be kicked and banned. That is probably why a few people think there are "No PvP" areas in DayZ Origins.

    Self bloodbag?

Bloodbagging is about the ONLY reason to be social in current DayZ. Far too few people can be trusted but bloodbagging is a highly desirable thing and can only be done by another person making grouping have a bit of value.

    The "Hardcore" base

Well, this isn't always a false assumption. If I chose to play DayZ so heavily modified that it turns out to be CoD with zombies I don't care about, I'm really not playing DayZ and my opinion of what happens in DayZ shouldn't have much weight.

    Loot em or leave em?

That would depend. While hunting bandits I could really care less about looting them if I already have the gear I want. I'm not going to go to the place where I just killed him and make myself a target, especially if he was camped on a firehall shooting bambies as they run through Elektro/Cherno. When I am gearing up, if someone comes after me and I kill them I will see if they have anything useful. When geared I won't always bother.

    The "Hardcore" base

Look, Hardcore is not an absolute, I will give you that. However, it is a scale and people can be more left or right on the scale. I won't use up or down because for some reason up is considered good in many people's eyes. Far left we can set Extremely Hardcore and far right we can set Extremely Casual. We can then set up a scale that is 20 to the left and 20 to the right with 0 being really balanced between the two. I can then very much state I am more Hardcore orientated than Billy and more Casual than Tommy. Am I hardcore? Maybe. We would have to define 0 and then if I was 1 to the left of 0 I would be "Hardcore" but not strongly hardcore. Some of that would be what server settings I choose to play under but the rest of it could be what conditions I decide to play under. If I only join servers with 40+ players on them and stay away form empty servers that would make the experience a bit more hardcore. If I join a passworded server that only I and my friends can log into, that is less hardcore. If I only join serves that are in their day cycle after 10AM and before 4PM that is less hardcore than joining servers that have full night and moon cycles and joining during that time. If I join 400+ vehicles, self blood bag, and so forth servers I can hardly call myself hardcore DayZ player even if there are 60 people on the server. It is subjective and while it is not black and white a person can actually state they are more hardcore than another and it shouldn't be an insult. You are not necessarily less skilled if you prefer 24/7 daylight, self bloodbag, starting gear, nametag, servers but you probably are not challenging what skill you do have on them. Some people just want a relaxing release and others want something that is stressful in a good way. What I want is a stressful game that challenges me... most of the time... Of course when I don't want to be challenged I hop on Battlefield 3 which has less stress to it. If I die I respawn with full gear. Sometimes I consider making suicidal charges so I can get certain special items back to use again. Casual games can be fun. I like Tower Defense games, but I would never consider them "hardcore". Some are more challenging than others but none of them eat up resources to try again or make you start over other than starting that level over. I like ME1-3 but they are not "hardcore" since you just go back to a save point and try the same tactic or a different one. BF3 could be a bit more hardcore, if the maps were better. A sprinkle of vehicles instead of a deluge of vehicles or total lack of them would be nice.

A few of them don't allow PvP on the island.. Um.. Section B?

Worst bandits you have ever seen?

Shot a guy in a bandit skin who wandered up and was looting the backpack of a guy who stopped in bush to apparently AFK for a few minutes. Sniped him and he started complaining because I didn't shoot the AFK survivor instead of him.

    Cold, Well Fed and Sick

I would offer to trade but nice guns are easier to find than antibiotics in Vanilla. If we had any among the 4 of us we would have used them the last 8 times someone was infected, died, and ran back to their corpse from the coast. The last time I lost everything because I died too close to a server restart, ended up about as far away as I could spawn, and got held up by the fact I had to detour for drink because I was flashing on water from the long run and was actually loosing blood from it. Found pistols and machetes left and right but not a single drink. Server reset with me about 300 meters from my body. :)

    A rare moment in DayZ

Last week I hopped on Vanilla to run around with some friends and found myself up North. I had a Lee Enfield and enough ammo but I still hit some barns looking for enough food and water to run and meet my friends. I ran into another survivor with a Hatchet out and covered him with the gun but since he didn't move towards me I did not fire. He said "Friendly, Friendly!" into the mike and I let him pass and shot a zombie agro'd on one of us. I moved quickly through the barn, grabbed a soda and a can of food and left the rest for him. I moved out of the area just in case he found a gun and decided he wasn't actually friendly, but I wasn't going to shoot someone who was not hostile to myself. Later on in Vanilla and in Breaking Point my friend and I have made it a point to hop onto busy servers and see if we can hunt down some of the bandits. We have 6 or 7 bandit kills under our belts(the one combat logged) but we also have 2 murders each. The unfortunate fact is that when someone switches skins it's impossible to determine their "alignment". Sitting on a hill overlooking Elektro with DMR in hand and bandit skin... easy choice. Running through the woods in Ghillie or in Breaking Point any of the other skins you could find all over the place, impossible to tell. The two of us ran into 4 guys. They looked geared up and had two vehicles. The had scoped rifles and were heading towards the ridge overlooking Elektro. Now, they might have been hunting bandits like we were or they could have been getting into position to shoot bambies. We couldn't tell their motives and 4 on 2 would go the wrong way if they were bandits and we announced our presence and our stated goal of shooting people preying on new spawn and hunting bandits. They were not "bandits" by the moral system in the game but it is remarkably easy to bloodbag your way to Hero status or at least out of Bandit status in Breaking Point. So we followed the best tactical assessment we could at the moment and shot them. ~IF~ the typical interaction was not KoS and the average interaction was trustworthy with the general DayZ populous we would have announced ourselves and tried to determine their actions, but the typical response to, "Hi... I'm friendly and I was hoping yo...." is *blam*, *blam*, *blam*!
  17. Oh no! When my kids were 6 they played much better than she. ;)
  18. My mom used to. She would bounce the controller up every time she wanted him to jump and lean certain directions when she wanted the character to move that way. Like I said though, lack of hand and eye coordination.
  19. That is a lack of hand and eye coordination. They can't translate the action and so end up swinging their body around. That is the sign of someone unskilled at video games, not proof that they are immersed in it.
  20. If it removes most of the exploitable issues then I wouldn't have an issue with it. I still prefer to play games in 1st person and I would in DayZ too but I feel forced to by the exploits that can be done and my friend's preferences for TPV. It looks like it might deal with the worst of them so yeah that wouldn't be all that bad, but how much effort, time, and money will they use developing that? What else could it go into improving or creating?

    joining server problems

Want to bet he doesn't look? I've had some guys hit my whitelist 4-5 times before they give up trying to join and it tells you you have to be whitelisted and the login messages tell you how to contact me to get on the whitelist.
  22. Not all opinions are valid though. That is what you need to realize. You can have an opinion that your next door neighbor is a horrible person but without VALID REASONS for said opinion you are not going to convince anyone else. Something is not valid just because it is an opinion. Something isn't valid just because you prefer it. You keep throwing up, "Because I prefer it that way." but I keep looking for a reason WHY you believe it is better. What valid arguments can you offer for TPV being prefered by you to FPV? "It's better because I like it." Okay, why do you like it? "Because it is better." This is what you keep saying.
  23. The advantage it offers over ZOMBIES ruins the immersion and they can't even use it in return.
  24. Hey, what perspective is Mincraft the "sandbox-survival-crafting" game in? :) There are a lot of RPGs that use FPV.
  25. However I have NOT bought games that were 3rd perspon perspective before. In fact it is one of the reasons I didnt' buy into the MassEffect series until I was about bludgeoned with a friends keyboard as he chanted, "ME 1&2 are on sale on Steam. Only costs $20 to try them both. Trust me you will still like them." I have to admit, I liked those games but I still found the TPV annoying. I get it though, with all the cutscenes that have you in 3rd person it makes sense, but I really wanted to the option to go into FPV while in combat.
