Helicopter stolen again... le sigh....

There are additions to servers that can locate vehicles and items on the map. If the admin has access to the DB they can look up the game world coordinates and using a map editor figure out roughly where it is from that. However, if this is an official Hive server then the admins do not typically have any access to that sort of thing. What is more likely is not that someone is running into it on foot out in the middle of nowhere but that someone is flying over in a helicopter and noticing it. Typically it takes a long time to find a chopper and get it fixed up with my friends but when we do we then start canvassing the map. Since you can fly from one corner of the map to the other with less than a 1/4 of the fuel a helicopter can survey the entire map one a couple tanks of fuel and it would only take a few hours to do so even stopping off at helicopter crashes and such. It is VERY difficult to hide a helicopter from another helicopter. -
Give me one logical reason why gear destruction will delay KOS

You mean like in "The Road" where the father is too scared to come out and get help and dies and the kid then finds out the dog they heard was owned by the people who were kind enough to take him in and help him out? <_< -

Might have been interesting if you had ever been in any danger. Your recorded engagements had you outgunning your opponents. 50 cal shielded HMMWV versus a Vodnick - Advantage HMMWV by a LOT. Lapua vrs... well you were never really close enough to see what he was armed with and that is a one shot kill gun you were shooting. A challenging fight is more interesting than running down some guys trying to escape a bunch of bullies with better weapons and more people. -
Vanilla 1.8 is solid. I have an Epoch server because it entices a friend to play with us. He is an absolute loot whore who likes to gather up tons of resources. The base building portion of Epoch as well as having traders he can sell junk off to makes this play style more fun and viable for him. He will literally go, "What do we need? Oh, building supplies? I'll go loot some industrial spawns. We are low on blood bags... time to go to the hospital." and with the locked safes and base building he can stash his excess for the rest of us. I like 1.8 but I like the Base Building. So I play both.

Epoch server without AI Ghosts of the Apocalypse

SARGE's AI are horrible shots, unless someone is setting their stats higher. -
I cant find bloodbags in hospitals :/
mercules replied to audax's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pick the Tin Cans up. Leave the area. Come back again later. What is happening is that people have grabbed the "good" loot and left the junk. If you and they keep leaving the junk then there will be nothing but junk in the spawn points and nothing new will spawn. -

"Look harder..." Seriously... last few times I have visited a hospital there has been at least one med box if not two and they contain bloodbags and antibiotics. -

I'll chime in as one of the people who doesn't KOS and typically only kills other players when the risk is high or shot at. Now... anyone with a Bandit skin or crawling around on Sniper Hill in a Ghillie is probably going to be shot with no questions asked. Others with survivor or hero skins are given warnings and only shot if they disregard them or fire at me. I've let so many people run past me without likely knowing I was there I can't keep track of how many. My typical response to the presence of another player is to get eyes on them and then avoid them unless they have a Bandit skin. I for one, would like it if people were a little less quick to the trigger, shooting anyone they see. I am at the point where I almost have to respond in kind as I have been trapped in locations with another player a couple times and they almost went bad. Entered a barn at the same time as another guy. We both went "Friendly" at the same time and exited out where we came in and moved away from each other. That could have been bad but there are those of us that actually don't shoot on site but are sometimes forced into situations where it is almost stupid NOT to because of game mechanics and the KOS mentality. We will welcome anything that makes someone pause and gives us a moment to make contact. The KOS you are describing happens because some players can't take the risk that others might be friendly. Protecting your own gear is really just someone lacking confidence in their ability to take another player out without having the jump on them. I've run into dozens of people and while we were both nervous we went about our business without shooting each other. Some people really do KOS for their gear. Check the Bandit threads there are people who typically just get a semi-decent gun then camp and let someone else gather up a bunch of things then shoot them and take the gear. Those people will have to get a bit more creative about it and it might slow them down if they have to headshot that guy but body shot the next one and what if the one he body shot had something good in his sweatshirt? Now the bandit will be like, "Dang I shouldn't have shot him there." What now? Leg shots then hold them up? As long as it changes something a bit it did it's job. It's also realistic and so worth going in just for that alone. ;) -

No one ever said it would stop douchebags from being douchebags. It will give those who might consider another player a "gear upgrade" pause though. -
Responsibility and shame: A intellectual observation of the hill camper
mercules replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So you're a douche then? Got it. There was always a chance for High Tier Military Grade weapons to spawn there. I got my first DMR with 2 whole clips from a Firehall when I first started playing many updates ago. Then later I got an M4A1 CCO, AKs 74 Kobra, and such from firehalls. -
How close do your typical engagements start? Because mine typically start at over 250 meters all the way out to 1k and there is NO way you are hitting someone with a 3 round burst at those distances. Now the M4A3 CCO can engage at that range, but typically needs a very good person to do so. The M16 ACOG is versatile but really not very good beyond 500 meters between the damage drop off and bullet drop which also happens to be about the effective range of the M14 AIM which will still be doing solid knockout damage. The SA58's optics don't work with NVGs while both the M14 and DMR do. All the weapons have good points and bad points but to say that the M14 AIM isn't all that good compared to other weapons is slightly laughable.

Does anyone else think the tractor is hilarious?
mercules replied to Jex's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Incorrect. I've flipped an ATV once... and it was literally launching myself off a steep drop off I didn't see coming. I didn't die, and was able to get back on the ATV and keep going although it needed serious repairs. They are not nearly as bad as they were at first. -
1. Shares ammo with a DMR which means you can carry the DMR in you backpack for long range firefights and not have to pack two types of ammo 2. Doesn't matter if it only kills with a headshot if it typically knocks someone out with one bodyshot. The follow up shot then kills them, even to the body. 3. DMR ammo is actually pretty common as it can spawn in ammo boxes and techincally you get 12 clips if you convert the m24 over to DMR. It is a very useful gun and fairly powerful. Should it be spawning in firehalls? Maybe, it looks to be a rare enough spawn but spawn points seem to be a bit broken right now which will be hotfixed.

I call bull on this because I have passed a Zed within 20 meters crouching but not moving perfectly slow. Then again I was on grass and it was looking the other way. The only senario I can think of where a zed agros on a crawling person would be if it was facing you and you were not in tall grass but crawling across a road, sidewalk, backyard devoid of cover. You have to use cover AND cross open areas when they are looking the other way. Stealth is not broken but it is harder in some cases now, and easier in others. Personally I will sometimes wait outside an area until the rain starts or I have taken to running around at night or during very dim light like dusk/dawn to loot areas with more zombies since they agro on you that much less.

As soon as you used the phrase, "End Game" you lost the point of DayZ.

AED batteries are rated for 2 years or so. Yes, using one drains the battery but an unused one can stay active for a couple years. The Zeds are Infected, not undead, and so THEY won't survive as long as an unused AED. You can find them in stores, malls, office buildings, and more.

What I am attempting to state is that whomever holed up in the firestation would have likely barred the doors to keep them shut. I don't know about where you live, but I can't walk up to such a location where I live and just open the door, they are locked and secured. Zombies would have had to break their way in or an infected but not yet showing symptoms person would have had to have made it inside. Firehalls are cinderblock with metal doors. They should have been hard to break into, thus a good place for people to hole up in. It would have been fairly secure. However it isn't for us because Zombies can glitch through ~walls~ and you can't lock the doors. Closing them means they just walk through them. Oh, and they do not always gltich through them because you were closing them. Sometimes they just simply walk through them for no apparent reason. They walk through unopened doors I've never touched, for instance and not just one Zed.
-
Technically the Zeds should be stopped by those doors, it's the glitch that they can walk through them that makes the Firehall less defensible.

How do you enter town safely as a lone wolf?
mercules replied to Donair's topic in New Player Discussion
Whelp... I entered Elktro twice in one day as a Lone Wolf (more or less). First time was because I was not having any luck finding matches, hatchet, or anything else I needed from up North. Worked out because I upgraded to AKs74 Kobra and found a DMR with some ammo. My approach was from up by Msta so I went up over "sniper hill" and carefully checked the trees and bushes up there before continuing on. It was a lower population server so even though I was surprised to find the Firehall at the power plant untouched in default state I probably shouldn't have been. So my route was Sniper Hill, down to the firehall where I checked for a possible sniper, then quickly into the city proper. I went through the houses on the outskirts to get more cover, through the grocery store, out to the school where I did NOT go onto the roof areas, out to the hospital where I paused behind the reception desk to let some agro drop. From there I dashed through the backyards and around into the church, again tried to lose agro and avoided the few zombies that followed me. Then I hit the other firehall and was forced to hit the roof of that but got out of there quick and headed for the industrial side of Elektro by way of all the little houses and back yards. There I found my hatchet and was better able to deal with zombies so I reversed my path and got out of town. The second trip was because my friend got him self trapped in the corner store without a quiet weapon and was simply swarmed by zombies. He wanted to try and get back to his body and started on the east side of Cherno so he simply ran straight that way and I moved down to meet him. Same procedure, flush sniper hill. Now, I don't expect someone to be camping sniper hill on a low pop server, but you never known. The time when I don't check is when I am going to be shot in the back of the head. So It was down the same way, check the firehall, then through the market and this time into the school where I have multiple escape points and can see the corner store. So I watched his body till he came and then held off the zombies while he looted his corpse... and there were a LOT of zombies. My advise is to still avoid these places if solo. One hostile player in any of the locations I visited could have ended my day very quickly. Someone running into the store with a gun out while I was hatcheting down zombies, or someone who had moved onto sniper hill after I ran through it watching me in the firehall, or even someone on the hills opposite "sniper hill" would have had a not easy but not impossible shot at me at several points. Those big towns can be high reward, but they are very high risk between the zombies and other players. -
Well, the "Rage" virus used Ebola as a base but was man-made. Which explains the hemorrhaging of the eyes and vomiting blood. Ebola does create a heightened state of agitation to the point of Psychomotor Agitation which is similar to late symptoms of Rabies where the individual can't sit still, will wring their hands, pace, and may even become harmful towards themselves and others. Not that one of the Ebola viruses would cause our Zeds in DayZ naturally, but it does have the basis for further tinkering. It also creates some of the same neurological issues Rabies does including swelling of the central nervous system. Technically any virus/bacteria/parasite/fungus that causes the swelling of the CNS you see in Rabies can cause the aggression and anxiety that Rabies does. If you want to listen to the kooks on the fringe and conspiracy theorists out there there are plenty of claims of "weaponized Rabies" being developed and even tested.

No... I have respect for myself and like to play DayZ.

It figuratively literally did that huh?
