My friend posts pictures of his wife on the Chive... so it isn't all that rare. ;)

As I have stated before: No amount of trouble and pain will stop a douchebag from trying to be a douchebag. There are just those that enjoy making others miserable and if they get any hint that they have done so they get tingles down below. There is a way to modify behaviour that works very well on this mentality and that is called Extinction. You simply ignore bad behaviour until they grow bored and start seeking attention in a more positive fashion or go away. You can tell who in this thread feels the need for the negative reinforcement... their chosen avatars tend to give it away in some cases and their quotes in others. Do what I do. Even if it is a hacker that hacked in a main battle tank and started shooting people in Chenro with it, ignore them. Go about your game and simply ignore them. Nothing burns that sort of person more than having someone ignore them. Stay off of side chat and direct chat and just don't interact with them. Then, later on when you are geared up go out and hunt the normal sniper locations. Usually they are not that hard to kill and don't even scan their surroundings while they get tunnel vision staring down their scope. The ones that actually move around in the towns and other areas themselves are the only ones that actually deserve any sort of respect. They take a chance even if they are geared up because at 10-100 meters a pistol can be just as deadly as an M4A1 CCO.

Give me one logical reason why gear destruction will delay KOS

Which is why we can't have nice things. -
Rog had a couple cans of food and a bandage... Firehall North of Elektro had an AK with no mags, some random ammo I didn't need, and a smoke grenade. I didn't check much further since I heard shots, it was late, and I really didn't want to deal with deciding if I needed to shoot someone or not. The server was empty when I started my wandering so I doubt either had been looted. Very little around.

yakfish, I will have to look tonight when I get a chance. My friend and I were at the Klen trader when we heard a vehicle. Guy pulls up in a Vodnick and we go through the whole "friendly" dance. He turned out to be friendly and while we kept an eye on him we went about our business. We use Klen because it is covered. Then a 4th guy shows up and the same sort of thing. We are all finishing up trading and boiling water, that sort of thing, when a plane goes overheard. That plane begins circling the hill making pass after pass and that starts to get us all nervous. My friend and I have purchased ammo for the guns, traded for some gear we needed, and were all set so we decide it might be time to head for the woods. Half way there we hear a helicopter. Next thing you know a Little Bird is flying over and guy hops out. The Little Bird starts to land as the plane flies over again spotting for them. The Vodnick takes off but the last guy in there ends up in a firefight so my buddy and I start laying down some cover fire for him from the woods, peppering the Little Bird and the guys who are now hopping out of it. Range is a bit long and we are using M4s but I know we hit the Little Bird a bunch and knicked some of the players. We then ran for it. Things like that are missed on servers with "Safe Zones". :)

On paper they are very close as their stats are roughly the same with the M1911 having an actual clip with 7 shots in it. In practice though, the sights on the revolver are pretty easy to use and many people feel more accurate with that gun and so use it in preference. Either way I find both guns good because the ammo is everywhere since you can convert it.

A light dissertation on Morality in DayZ
mercules replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Please read Kant. Seriously, you look like you might enjoy it. One of the first principles of his theory he put forth is that there are "Duties" that are "Perfect" and "Imperfect". The main difference, and I am paraphrasing from memory is that Perfect Duty is a duty you must morally meet consistently while Imperfect Duty is one that you should be praised for accomplishing. A perfect duty would be to not kill others. An Imperfect Duty would be to rescue a person from a burning building. -
Hmmmm... when you say "Trader Zones" do you mean safe zones around traders? I do not have that on my server but it is locked right now while I experiment with AI and other little mods. I had been playing on a few different servers that also did no have them and I can look them up.

Ballistic Vests and such are "stupid"... but a DMR is not? What criteria are we using to determine what gear is stupid here? "Can't be used to shoot someone = Bad Gear. Actually keeps someone from being shot = Stupid. Shoots people = Good" <- something like that? Ballistic gear is as widely available as say... M4A1s. In fact I can buy it on the internet right now as I type that so it is basically MORE available. -

No there won't... or at least they won't last very long. In reality, unlike the game, these guys have to sleep sometime and that is when they will die while all the little, "Let's group up and not shoot each other." people will have a few others to keep watch while they rest. It is much harder to survive something like that alone than it is in the game. ;) -

I doubt ballistic gear will be all that common, but it might be a great find in the game. As already stated there is no "cure" for KOS that doesn't mean we can't discourage it. -

I don't think you comprehend this. KOS = Kill on Sight Right? This means, literally, that you shoot as soon as you see someone. Now I don't believe that all of the KOS guys really are but I know there are a few I have WATCHED running through Elktro/Cherno, see a guy, turn and shoot him, and then die to the swarm of zombies that just came their way. Those truly are the KOS morons some of us are talking about. I was actually upset by that one because I was looking to put a bullet into him for killing the weaponless newspawn but he ran into a building and was killed by zombies. Most of us are hoping the Stand Alone is difficult enough that these type of guys grow frustrated and quit. We are hoping that the difficulty level brings about a bit of the morality at least in the form of, "I don't have a lot of bullets and this guy might be handy to have around. Maybe I'll try and make contact with him and see if we can clear out these zombies and split the loot." Instead of the logical decision simply being, "Shoot them." and "Shoot them some more." I can have fun shooting people and for that I go to a game built for it instead of trying to force that game style into a game built for a slightly different style of play. That is what you are not getting. -

There you go again, belittling anyone who doesn't want to shoot EVERY SINGLE PERSON. Just because I see no reason to shoot someone who is no threat to me doesn't mean that I don't want there to be threats out there. I like people like you in the game but I don't want a game that is all you. Why? because all you is boring as hell. There is MORE tension and excitement to approaching someone who may be friendly or might not be than simply raising your gun and firing. You have one type of interaction with other players and it can be summed up with, "Bang". I have a lot more and the game is richer for it. The bandits won't rule... the evidence is in modern society. If survival was more likely in a lawless situation... that is what we would be surrounded with today or we would have died off as a species for caring for each other and making governments and laws. Guess what, people live because they get regular food, health care, have shelter and society aids in that. The bandits might rule for a short time but some organization will form and it will deal with them, the proof is part of history. -

Devblog also had the item damage turned WAY up. We can't be certain that the item will be destroyed in one shot. Yes, certain calibers are going to pop right through that helmet if the angle isn't bad, but grazing hits do happen. There was a soldier last year who took a heavy machine gun bullet to the helmet, the bullet striking at a good penetration angle, and walked away with a concussion. Yes it was very lucky and the round should have penetrated but smaller caliber rounds at an angle should glance off. -

Yes, I get that for you the game is "La, la, la shoot everyone." Good for you, now go into your special little corner and enjoy that game. Some of us are playing this game and not Battlefield or CoD because there is an actual reason to not shoot everyone on sight. Heck, in BF you shoot friendlies because every server I have been on there is no friendly fire so it doesn't hurt to shoot everything that moves as you can only kill the enemy. We are playing this game because it is attempting to simulate, a bit, the idea of being a survivor in a zombie apocalypse situation, where shooting everyone you see would be a less than intelligent response to survival. Where grouping up and gathering survivors into that group could actually make life easier for them against the zombies and bandits. That is where the "Morality" play comes in. I understand you don't "get it" and that is fine but you don't need to tell the rest of us we are wrong simply because you don't get it. -

NVGs? Radio Headsets(yes radios will be in the game and you can set them to passive listen then hear what will be going on in another area)? Aside from that, there are now helmets that will stop the first headshot. so you can shoot them in their hoodie which likely has gear and risk ruining that but likely put them down with the first shote/burst or shoot them in the head and hope you destroy enough of the helmet that your second shot actually kills them... that is after they get alerted and start doing the Funky Chicken to avoid getting headshot a second time. ;) -

You realize you are arguing as if that comment you quoted was addressed to you. Since you brought it up I'll address it. Ehem... No shit I think I stated that. Morality comes from logic. No thought, no logic. Thus the whole discussion about Kant's Categorical Imperative. Who's punching the strawman? :) -
Depends on my primary. :) MP5SD can use M9SD ammo so it doesn't hurt to have the M9SD as my secondary just in case I run low on ammo. I can then stick with the MP5 but use the other ammo. Otherwise I like the G17 if I am going to be loud anyway. The flashlight is handy even when I have NVGs because I can flick it at someone else with NVGs and blind them. If I end up helping a friend who doesn't have NVG I can maneuver with my NVG and then flick the flashlight on to give my friends reference points and help them out. If I am doing nothing but headshots then the ammo goes a bit further. It can, however, pump out a lot of shots in a very short amount of time despite being Semi-Auto.

A light dissertation on Morality in DayZ
mercules replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem with your brand of morality is that it is literally morality of convenience which is not morality at all. "Well, today we decided this particular social class is inferior and can be shot on sight. This is now morally just and right!" It doesn't matter what pressures or motivation drive someone to commit genocide, genocide is wrong. There is no moral principle providing for a group of humans to die simply because they share a social norm or genetic history. I have never claimed I know what is objectively right or wrong, I have only claimed that morality is objective and can be based off reason and logic and that the Categorical Imperative is a very good formula to follow to try and achieve the unachievable. -

mercules replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What I was trying to say though is that players who KOS for gear are already killing everyone they meet for gear. There is no possible way for them to INCREASE their kills because they won't have any additional opportunities to kill MORE. So if the net effect is that some players kill less while the others can't really kill more since they already basically shoot 100% of those they meet, the KOS still goes down if only by those that it deters. :) -
One the best things about the M14 is it uses DMR mags. Carry that and a DMR and you have interchangeable ammo. Expect to get up close switch to M14. Expect to be taking long range shots then switch to DMR.

Again... Epoch Forums... Answer: Vehicles in Epoch have dynamic spawns across the map. Cars and such tend to spawn near roads or buildings. Helicopters and planes tend to spawn at random in the open. So the answer to your question really is, "Not even the Epoch Developers know, it is RANDOM." Oh wait, if you had gone to the DayZ Epoch page and clicked on the Wiki link you would have found the following: http://dayzepoch.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page#Epoch_key_Features
