Real people are not on 24/7 and the "bandit" population far outweighs the "I want to hang out at Klen and protect people coming to trade" population. ;) My thought was to add in AI guards at various locations. "Survivor" guards for Klen and a more neutral traders, "Bandit" guards hostile to those who do not have seriously -humanity at the bandit trader, and then a bit more strict guards at the "Hero" trader who don't let anyone with under +2500 humanity nearby. Not invulnerability but AI you can shoot and kill. What would this do? Well, you could still assault people at the traders but those who are inherently hostile would have to kill off the guards or slip past them to kill players. If a player came up to a trader post and there were no guards about, they might just get a bit suspicious. If they are trading when you take out the guards they will hear the gunshots(unless you can do it silently) and get out before you can kill them. Much more realistic. I'm waiting to make sure another patch doesn't come out any time soon since I have to redo things every time they patch them, then I'll probably set up AI on my server again with those in place.

On ~gaming~ forums? Could it be because 90% of the game software written is made for the PC and never even ported over to Mac? Look, you can be the equivalent of a computer hipster and refuse to use a PC because you believe Mac OS is better, but think about the logic of what you are trying to do. You are buying a piece of hardware that is more expensive and harder to upgrade as well as proprietary and an OS the gaming community doesn't build for and expecting them to spend money adapting their software to your special little situation instead of going out and buying what is supported. This is equivalent to buying a special can opener that only works with a certain type of tin can and getting upset when the canned food manufacturers don't use those type of cans. Say that can opener then had an adapter that would allow it to open unsupported cans but you had to pay extra for it. Wouldn't it just be wiser to buy the industry standard can opener that opens ALL the cans out there? I can't think of a single game that isn't packaged with the OS that runs in Mac and doesn't in Windows but I can find thousands the run in Windows but don't in Mac. End of Story.

From what I've been told by various buddies that have served there are a few manufactured magazines that work really well and don't jam but the U.S. military doesn't use them or issue them. I can't remember if it was cost or a contract or what it was that forced them into that decision but I've also been told that some troops buy their own magazines and swap them in for their issued ones when allowed. Why? Because it is their ass when the gun jams at the wrong time.

DURRRRRRRRR... Not part of EPOCH! DURRRRRRRR! I don't know how many times I'll have to say it. Self Blood bags have nothing to do with Epoch and are not part of the mod. Extra Vehicles are not part of Epoch. Saying Self Blood bags are the problem with Epoch compared to vanilla is like saying Vanilla also sucks because it has self blood bags. Yes, some of the server hosts have added the same crap some of the server hosts have added to Vanilla DayZ but EPOCH DOESN'T INCLUDE ANY OF THAT! So stop bringing it up as a reason.

I know of 3 people personally who hunt deer with crossbows. Where I live nearly everyone I know has at least a hunting rifle/shotgun and many have bows. The ones who have injuries that prevent them pulling back a bow effectively can get a special license to hunt with a crossbow like my father-in-law who has had multiple surgeries on both shoulders so that he still has mobility.

Not in this game but in Mechwarrior Online I and my 3 friends turned and demolished a guy on our team for his overtly homophobic name. I would have just reported him but he was spouting off in the channels about all kinds of annoying crap that was also racist and homophobic. So we left his mech a smoking hull after picking it apart piece by piece to do the most damage. This was back in the days when MWO had repair costs still going and a mech like that might take him several matches to actually repair.

When she plays online without me she will occasionally play a male character specifically to avoid the interactions you yahoos have with females. She has been asked to prove she is female by sending pictures of her next to her computer screen with her character. You boys need to grow up and maybe spend some time outside the game in the presence of females... strip clubs don't count.

Since several of them would give the game a higher rating or otherwise mess with the distribution and sale of it they are avoiding children zeds. You experienced people shooting you on sight so you decided it was in your best interest shooting others on sight leading them to experience the same things you do so they come to the same conclusion... If you don't like shooting other players or feel bad doing it, don't do it. There was no "Last Resort" here. You weren't trapped, you were not in danger since it was obvious neither had seen you, and you could have left free and clear. You chose to shoot them. Nothing wrong with that, what is wrong is you deciding to ease any guilt you might feel about it thinking it was justified. 1.7.8 just released, with some really nice upgrades. I think maybe you misphrased the "canned the development of the mod" since the mod is still being developed and I don't believe it was 6 months from 1.7.7 to 1.8. Well, and they have already patched 1.8 a couple times to fix things. I also don't find it all that frustrating or "very broken". There are glitches in this ALPHA but one expects that and none of them are that horrible, this is from someone who has fallen through a piece of terrain and died with a totally unlootable body in the ground. Those sort of things are rare. I think it is more that you don't actually like DayZ but really want to complain about how "sour" it is like the Fox and the Grapes. Most people, if they have decided they don't like a game, move on and stop posting in the forums. You are all stalkerish, "I'll show up at the bar and restaurant you and your friends go to all the time and show you how miserable you made me. That will ruin your good time... won't it... won't it!" never realizing you are only punishing yourself since the girl really doesn't care. The problem with assuming that fuel should run out: Bullets should run out. They would need to never respawn any additional ammo. Canned/dry good should run out. No one is still producing these so they shouldn't respawn. Boots... clothes.. backpacks... shovels... axes... crowbars... pistols... If fuel isn't replenished then neither is anything else. Sometimes you have to suspend reality for a the sake of a game.

Date? I think you mean daily event. I would avoid joining the clan because I would assume the only thing they would have the urge to do is hit the corner bistro to loot some more beans.

It's awesome, isn't it? You might have to actually worry about zombies now. No more sitting outside zombie spawn range and sniping into town all safe and cozy that you won't have zombies smacking you while you shoot the guy with nothing but a flashlight from so far away he doesn't hear the gunshot before he dies.

Or you could disengage and get away from the area. If you worked hard to get to the barracks you can tell him not to move and any more towards the barracks and a gun will be considered a hostile action. Move into the barracks before them or behind them and if they do go for a gun shoot them. Of course if you say nothing then he is probably going to assume you are going to shoot him and make his best move which is probably try and find a gun in the barracks.

Wow, you really don't play any F2P games, do you? MWO - F2P not aiming at low budget folks. You can get things in less time spending money or grind it all the way out. Lot of cosmetic options people actually do pay to have. DDO - F2P not aiming at low budget folks. Was dying as a subscription service but went F2P and has been going strong ever since. No realy P2Win items nearly everything is a time saver. You can actually grind out and unlock everything in the game given time and effort but everyone drops a few bucks here and there to shortcut that. Rifts - F2P you can play the whole game without spending a dime. You will have fewer bag slots so you might make money a bit slower as you can't carry all the extra junk you would sell but a lot of that you don't need anyway. I could go on as I play at least 3 more F2P games. DayZ is in fact a F2P game. You don't subscribe to the server, nor do you ever purchase DayZ. You need to have the ARMA games but you do not pay for the DayZ portion of it.

My point was that for as long as history has been recorded in some manner human beings have been co-operating for mutual benefit. Very few humans do it all on their own. Our tendencies are not to split up and "every man for himself" while we kill each other, but to bunch up in groups that work together for mutual survival. So all the people saying they would shoot everyone they saw in a real apocalypse are either anti-social sociopaths, or lying to themselves. The vast majority would probably end up as "toadies" to a more powerful or charismatic individuals. I would explain why but it would probably insult them at their very core.

I think the issue with nighttime play is that too many people are too scared to play a ~horror~ survival game in the dark. The game gives us the tools to run around at night and gives us an advantage over the zombies at night. Blue Chemlights, flares, gun with a flashlight are about all you need to run around at night. Blue Chemlight - the light doesn't reach far and while people within spitting distance see you as a big glowing blue figure people beyond that might possibly see a speck of light, if they are really watching for it. It lights up the immediate area enough for you to loot and not fall down or get stuck on something. Zombies and other things will suddenly be illuminated and so you might end up in a few close situations, but in my opinion that is pretty awesome. Flares - Lights up a huge area. You would never throw one where you are actually going to go since zombies will wander towards them. A flare and a smoke grenade together lead to a zombie agro trap where they wander into that area. Even so it will light up enough of your surroundings that as long as you don't look towards it but away you can spot things fairly well. It will also mess with NVGs and if you are in the shadows they will have trouble spotting you with the bright light right nearby. Flashlight - You only use this to check you next section. Scoot along, flash it on and off so you can appraise the next area you want to move into, then move. Obviously a military one is better fo not giving away your position, but quick flashes are hard for people to notice. If you do end up with someone that has NVGs pointing a weapon at you, you shine that thing right in their face and blind them. I'll carry a gun with a flashlight on it when I have NVGs just for that purpose alone. He can only fire at the light while I can aim more carefully.
