    what happen if SA sucks?

Is it possible that because you do not use actual sentences with punctuation someone could not really get what you are saying? That might be true. In this case, however, I completely understood what you had been saying and was simply pointing out that many other players believe those servers are fun and are already asking for them. I am not one of them. Let us hope "they" do not get their way.

You had your post, it got closed for a reason... leave it alone. When you have learned how to be polite and maybe how to provide the right information so that people can at least try and help you then please come back and we would be happy to do so.

    what happen if SA sucks?

In the, "Before buying SA what question would you like answered?" thread someone already asked if there will be private servers that will be moddable because they want to play on that type of server. It apparently helps their PvP skills. I expect a lot of gnashing of teeth.
  7. Part of the issue with 'gear progression' is that it is choked to certain points of the map. This is good, and bad. The really bad part of it is that it is possible for an organized group to prevent anyone else from access the gear and thus ever "leveling" up. On a private hive a clan of players could literally camp the airfield with multiple players and kill any solo players or poorly geared groups. The hive system avoids some of this but at the same time eliminates 'gear progression' entirely. After all you can raid a barracks with a hatchet on an empty server. You can run from the coast to the NWAF with a can of beans, two cans of soda, and a hatchet. Backpack would be nice, but getting a decent AR not to mention something like MK 48 Mod0 will help you go far. You might end up with a backpack, two decent guns with ammo, morphine, painkillers, and food and drink just from hitting a barracks and the tower at the airfield. So now there are a couple other spots you can get "decent" gear but they are still choked down. Cherno, Electro, Balota, the two airfields, and a couple minor spawns. The front steps of the security buildings don't even spawn non-'barn' weapons any longer. So a person's options for solid weapons has become Kill-Zone A, B, C, D, or E. Which makes people on the hive system hop on low pop servers and hit those areas then hop to high pop servers to use those weapons on others. This system doesn't work.

    what happen if SA sucks?

Let us hope. ;) There used to be distinct phases of software development but that has changed. We have two extremes here. On one hand we have games that have a "beta" period that should really be called early access. The game is feature complete with most of the bugs worked out and really the Beta is an excuse to get some players in there so they might find those obscure bugs and broken bits that testers really can't. Some offer beta access a month before actual release for preordering and don't change much at all after release. On the other hand we have things like MechWarrior Online. There was a closed beta where most of the "features" were missing as was most of the content. Then came the open beta where there was a bit more but still a lot of missing features. The game has officially launched and released and there are fetures that are not implemented such as UI 2.0, Direct X 11, and community warfare. Some people stated that when everyone could play the game that was a release, which was untrue, the game was still changing... then again it still is, very much. To FURTHER muddy the waters we have online games that change greatly. I recently started playing Rifts again. Wow, they made some great changes. Not just new content, but new ways of doing things. EQ 2 added flying mounts. Not, "Take me to this location." mounts but mounts that let you interact with an area in 3 dimensions, something you could never do before in that game. These games never really leave development so the old, "Gold Mastered" isn't true anymore. What was on that disk or that first download has changed. My new rule of thumb is to let the developer tell me what the game is. If they say "Alpha" I expect bugs that will cause serious frustration, things like wiping out all my inventory or losing items for no reason ala putting a weapon down in DayZ. If they tell me Beta I expect it to be a bit more solid, still bugs, needing content. If they say it is released then I expect to be able to play and not lose anything, but there might be even better stuff released later.

The "End Game" does not belong in DayZ

While I agree with you to some degree I also must disagree with you and the video. In the video there are no safe zones in Epoch so yet another person who doesn't understand the mod trying to explain what is wrong with the mod. There is no "end game" to DayZ, at the same time there is a point you reach where you did accomplish all your mini-goals and you go, "What next?" For a lot of players that becomes "Lets find some trouble." AKA PVP. This is all fine and good except for the fact that you will have about half the population set up with the stuff they want for PVP at any given time. So the other half is still trying to meet all their little goals. After a few months of play people start skipping the little goals because whether they are ready or not, PVP is coming to find them. Not just, "Oh, there is another guy with an assualt rifle, he might be dangerous so I'd better watch him and prepare to shoot him if it looks bad." Not just, "Hmmm... he has a nice backpack. I think I'll shoot him" No, the PVP people end up getting to is, "Guy spawned... shoot him." and "LOL! he has a pistol and not even a backpack yet. Look at him being chased by zombies. *bam*!" So more and more people forget to care about the survival aspect of the game even more than, "I got a base." does. I don't agree with the safes in Epoch. I think they go too far. On the other extreme are Vanilla tents which are easily found and impossible to secure so you might as well not count on anything being in them ever. There is no, "I can stockpile a bit of food and protect it so I don't have to run over there and loot food every time I get hungry." Or "I have found a bunch of ammo but no gun that uses it, I guess I'll store it till I find a gun that can." which would be reasonable ideas in the setting. Reasonably you would not only hide your stash, but leave a guard on it so a couple of you could make a supply run and reasonably come back to find your camp intact, but DayZ doesn't model that in any reasonable way. That is where Origins and Epoch come into it. If Epoch took out the safes it would be about right. You can "secure" things but they can never be 100% secure, just more difficult to access. Even better would be for your tents and such to log out with you. So while logged in your tents are vulnerable but while logged out they are not there. That means if you decided to simply scavenge close to camp you could reasonably protect your supplies with tripwires and beartraps. Or you could log in as a small group, leave a guy behind to watch over it and have some others go scavenge just like what would happen in RL. But wait, tents are locked to characters. What about when one dies? Well, then the tent is permanently there. Anyone can loot it. So now you will have to find a different tent and set that up somewhere else to store things. Why do these things? Why have "base building"? Because it adds one more check box to the, "what now?" list. Not an endgame, but another pastime and goal for people to work on. Some will ignore it anyway and just grab the best gun they can find and shoot someone. Others will embrace it and start finding materials to do it with. We don't want an endgame but we do want a more dynamic and open game with more to do besides find a good gun and shoot someone. Right now that is about all there is in DayZ.

The "End Game" does not belong in DayZ

"End Game" is a player created concept. You are correct in that there will always be one because there will always be those players that believe that all games have/need "end game" or they are without purpose. Games do not need "end game".

    what happen if SA sucks?

That doesn't work. That is like trying to add a basement to a house after you built it on a plain old cement slab foundation. You can't, or you can but it will take three times as much work, risk breaking parts of the house, and probably not as good as if you build the basement as the original foundation. The mod WILL SUCK. End of story. The first release of the alpha for us to play will have some very sucky elements to it. Big deal. What they are doing is laying the foundation to build a bigger, better, more solid house than they every could have using base ARMA II or III as the foundation.
  12. The Contender I posted above can fire this same round (as I said my dad had a smoothbore .410 barrel) and operates much the same but with different barrels can fire different rounds. Yes, it fits the definition. Pistol - a small firearm designed to be held in one hand.

    Got raped whilst sniping.

First rule of sniping. After shooting, reposition. Listening to music while playing DayZ? Especially while moving around the area of Elektro? <_< At least you admit you were dumb for doing that.
  14. If I was dreaming? The Contender: Single Shot break action pistol. Notice the different barrels. With half a dozen barrels you could shoot whatever ammo you happened to find. My dad had several barrels including a smooth bore that could fire small shotgun shells. The sights are built into the barrels and when people add scopes or alternate optics they tend to zero them in and leave them on the barrel so with a quick little switch you can use a totally different caliber bullet that is already zeroed in and ready to go.

    Show off your Base

If he would bother to look there is already a "Show off your base" thread pinned at the top of those forums with some great bases in it. Likely bases on locked servers where they spawned in supplies because I know how tough it is to make a simple 4 wall cinderblock structure with a locked door much less some of the ones they have built.

    What happened to the AK?

They can't just toss in the guns from ARMA II and/or III. Here is what they did that is going to make things better in the future but slim picking right now. Every item in the game is a "vehicle". This means it can be a container and things put into it can modify it's look and operation. That means that the characters can have different pants, shirts, hats, and more. Before outfits were a skin change which either allowed the backpack to show or not. Now the player is a "vehicle" and can have different items that allow different things. Armored Vests can help protect you as can helmets. Guns are the same. You can attach a scope to a gun and then use it. You can attach a different grip to it, you can attach a laser pointer, you can attach a flash or sound suppressor, you can attach a flashlight, and more. So they had to build a system where all these attachments can be added to the weapon, modify it's actions, and be rendered properly. We will no longer find an M4A1, M4A1 CCO, M4A1 CCO SD, or M4A1 Camo. We will find an M4A1 and the different attachments and be able to customize that gun to what we prefer if we find the right things. So 1 gun is actually the same as the 6 or 7 guns in the Mod that are all M4s but are "different" because they have a different sight or stock or a flashlight. However, setting up the 1 gun required more work than setting up the 6 or 7 guns because it has MORE iterations and is now more like 12 different guns from various combinations.
  18. Yet another person who wants to compare a private heavily modified Epoch server to DayZ Vanilla instead of Epoch Vanilla to DayZ Vanilla. I play both and I can tell you Epoch isn't that much different from Vanilla. Trader cities can be a death trap so you only go to them if you really have to. Vehicles are no more common than in Vanilla, there is no self blood bag. In some cases it is more difficult because you can't just hunt for someone's tent to get geared up or steal someone's vehicle to get across the map.

    best base/camp in dayz

I have a couple locations with large stashes in them. I tend to dump certain things into them while running around and then fill up my backpack and inventory when I log off.
  20. Here is something you are maybe not understanding. They have changed enough of the code that it is now a variant of the ARMA 2 and 3 engines. It is no longer ARMA 2 and it isn't ARMA 3. Both ARMA 2 & 3 announce everything to everyone. Both allow client side scripts. DayZ SA doesn't allow any of that and it's architecture is different enough from an Engine standpoint that it is very unlikely you can port the chunks of code for zombies or whatever to ARMA 2 or 3 and have it work without making the same changes to the engine that DayZ SA has. Once that happens you have now duplicated the DayZ SA and are probably running into issues with lawyers and copyright infringement. ;)

Will Dayz standalone come to Mac

Hey man... if you had read the thread you would notice that some of us stated that if you have a Mac already you can play these games using bootcamp to install a Windows partition and boot into that. However, there is no reason EVER to buy a Mac for a gaming computer because you will spend most of your time in Windows. Totally related to the discussion at hand.
  22. So they are going to port over zombies spawning at server start and roaming the map? Exactly how are they going to do that without the optimization in code that the SA went through? They are going to port over the network bubble that reduces load and removes power from the clients to influence the server? How? Keep trying.
