  1. No, actually Epoch doesn't have a single safe zone in it. Now some server owners provide things like "Safe Zones" and starter gear and self blood bags and.... any other mod out there that can end up on Vanilla OR Epoch. On topic: I play Epoch, Origins, and Vanilla. They are all similar in experience but not the same. Origins Zombies are annoying and harder to kill. Occasionally you run into one of the tougher ones that I have literally unloaded 2+ AKM clips into it to put down some in the head and some in the body. Origins gave me a couple goals and I worked hard at them. I got my humanity up by avoiding other players so I didn't have to shoot them and killing zombies. I found blueprints, I found the supplies, and I built my house and a garage. I fixed up a few vehicles, and basically enjoyed the game. I had several moments with AI in Choppers hunting for me as I zipped through the woods on an ATV bullets whizzing past me and spanging off the ATV. Had similar moments with bandits in one of the larger towns I had thought there was one then spotted the second right before I fired. I slipped out of there but not without being spotted and threw down some covering fire while I retreated and then zipped off again on an ATV. Heck, I fixed up a Wheeled Titanic a very apt named amphibious vehicle because it swear once I had fixed it up and moved onto land I crashed into everything. Worst vehicle ever but it was fun fixing it up. Epoch offers a chance to actually secure some loot to some degree. The base building is the huge draw because it is actually a bit fun to work hard at something and then point to it and go, "I did that." Even a tiny base with very little other than four simple walls, a locked door, and a roof isn't easy to put together wile dodging other players and zombies. Some of the vehicles are a lot of fun as well. The little Mozzie chopper is hilarious and a good deal of fun to fly. Vanilla has it's own draw. I love what they have done to make melee more viable and I like the Sepsis and other recent additions. Unfortunately there isn't much left for me to do in Vanilla besides go shoot people and I'm not all the interested in doing that right now. If you really want to have some fun PVP hop onto a BattleRoyal server. It takes up about an hour and a half of your time if you are good and lucky and really lets you PVP.
  2. Notice I replied to others in the thread and not Miffy. I agree with you on that.
  3. You need to figure out where that adrenalin rush comes from. After all people don't get that from BF3/COD where you shoot people. Why does it come in DayZ and not in other games? Because DayZ ISN'T a 30 Minute DM game. You only get that rush when you were actually at risk of losing all you worked for. I know I don't get that rush when I newly spawn and haven't found anything other than a revolver. On my character with E-Tool, GPS, solid backpack, DMR, M14, and basically everything I need to survive I get nervous when a zombie hits me and I start bleeding. Gun shots get my heart pounding... but didn't before I spent weeks finding all that. So by removing the things we work for and the investment you also remove the thing that cant' be achieved in other games. That 34 minute run IS part of the survival aspect. You wouldn't believe how shocked and amazed I was the first time I realized how big the map was and how much empty space there was between cities. It made the game into a wilderness and influenced my game play. Remove that unique experience and you have removed much of what gives that adrenalin rush.

    Epoch combined with Origins?

I play both Mods. From Epoch: The currency system is "okay". Mostly a bunch of prices need to be set better and admins need to stop populating the Vendors with gear. When it is vanilla and someone has to sell something to a vendor before they have it in stock the game is a lot better. Epoch doesn't have Safe Zones. LESS Vehicles, please. A Vanilla Epoch server has an okay ammount, it could be a few less, especially since you can purchase a vehicle. As it is found vehicles are simply a way to make money in Epoch. Crafting is a definite and will be in the SA. Base Building was mentioned and considered. You should be able to break into a base if you put forth the effort equal to building it(which is not the case in Epoch although it is getting better) From Origins: Craftable vehicles are not really Craftable. They are basically just upgradable with these less common things. I am not a fan of the houses, mostly because like I said above, they need to be able to be broken into. I don't like Safes from Epoch either. I liked the functions a house could have other than just a locked storage space. The leveling system is both good and bad. It locked access to certain things and so did force me to play a certain way to accomplish later goals in the game but sadly all it influenced was, "Shoot other players or not shoot other players?"

    Auto-run button.

And I play Epoch and Origins and wouldn't use an Auto-run button. I don't fit into his arrogant little theory either. :)
  6. So... instead of logically playing the thousands of games that exist out there that better meet the needs of the "I've got a half hour to an hour to play" crowd... let's take one of the unique games and make it just like the others? Um..... Remember, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. We CAN make DayZ just like all the other games but at that point we could have just played any of those other games. Which is simpler?

Base Building - Do's and Don'ts (DayZ Standalone)

This is actually a pretty solid idea. If some of the conditions could be cured/resolved by things we can end up placing in a "camp" but are not portable, people might just visit your camp, use the facilities, and move on. Maybe a comfortable bed/rest area that allows you to regain blood a bit faster than normal or cuts the time off of an injury making you limp. Spend 2 minutes in game resting in it and get a nice return on blood or shorten the healing duration by a good amount. A grill/campstove setup that is upgraded and not just the portable stove in SA might make food that is actually more filling or might be needed to make something like flatbread, roasted meats, smoked meat(which takes longer to spoil). I know I would stock up on meat, hit a camp with a "Smoke House" and get that meat smoked up so that it will last me weeks instead of days. Water Well/pump, just a small one would give people a new point to gather around, but should require some work to set up.

Base Building - Do's and Don'ts (DayZ Standalone)

While that is true "securing" a water supply by expending some time building a "base" then frees up other time that could be spent doing other things, which frees up more time, which.... This is why we went from Hunter/Gatherer to Agrarian in history. Epoch gives you some great do's and don't's. My base in Epoch is out of the way and near water. Because of that when I find Water Bottles I take them. Others just grab soda and use that. My base has a firebarrel in it now and I keep an empty tin can. When I gear up for an evening's run around the map I toss the empty water bottles in storage and pull out a couple full ones. Since my base is also in an area where animals spawn I also have plenty of food. I can grab a few things and run out the door then every so often "replenish" my stores. In Vanilla I try to do much the same but often you will come on and find your tent ransacked and even food missing. So for the most part my Vanilla play starts out with, "How much food and drink do I have?" if the answer is one of each then my first run will be to where food and drink spawn so I can have a few. I eat and drink as I go but I end up doing detours a LOT to make sure my supplies are kept up in Vanilla. In Epoch I find myself using the measure of, "I have enough to get back to base."

life's a drag then you die

No, they are idiots because they spawned and haven't had a chance to arm themselves yet. How stupid of them. Basic schoolyard bully logic. The few times where he actually has someone capable of shooting back are more interesting, but even then they typically are not as well armed as he. Boring, "I kill newspawns and stroke my murderboner while doing it." stories are boring.

    I'm physiologically instable

Amazing how many web browsers now have spell checkers built right into them. Spelling things correctly won't make you seem less intelligent unlike spelling things incorrectly. I liked the concept and execution of what you did. Had I been that player I would have gotten a chuckle out of having fallen for it. So much better than pausing for a moment and *zzzzzrp*, "You are Dead" for no apparent reason.
  11. Yes, because there are literally hundreds of games better suited to a "I only have an hour to play." lifestyle. I don't sit down to play DayZ unless I am sure I have about 2 hours of uninterrupted play or I have one simple task in mind and it should only take me X. Even so I try to avoid something as simple as, "I am going to run from where I logged out outside Berinzino to near Grishino where my friends are so tomorrow when we log in we will all be near each other." because I know that at any given moment that can go horribly wrong, that someone running from Stary to Devil's Castle or their hidden base up that way crosses my path, I die and I will want to see if they left anything on my body. Heck, I could get zombie agro passing by, not notice it, get hit in the head when I went into my map and die and then I will be trying to get back to my body which could take an hour.
  12. The first 10 threads he started like that we didn't really complain. When he ~ONLY~ posts threads complaining about things that really don't matter in the long run some people will call him out for it.
  13. Except they can struggle free of the bonds. This is already known and has been shown in the videos.
  14. Like being shot it is possible to be tied up without consent, just probably less lethal. If the person wants to risk getting within touching/melee distance after they loot the appropriate item to allow them to even try it, then they deserve to at least have it work. I once played on a "consentual " RP game where you had to consent to bad things happening to your character. Seemed I was the only one actually getting mugged/beat/killed and everyone else was a Chinese Grocer Stereotype in a bad kung fu movie where they would bust out with weird martial prowess from otherwise seemingly harmless characters. Consent systems do not work with random people.
  15. First the "map guy" Ivan needs to go in and make the building enterable. Does Ivan work on textures and character items? No.... Oh, the Shotgun has textures but not functionality. Those slackers over in the art department are holding things up working on masks I guess. "Generic Medical Animation" which became a running gag in the summary but that still isn't the person who was working on masks, it's the animator. You still don't get it that the person(s) working on textures and things like masks are probably not the guys working on the the things holding up the game. What is holding up the game? 1. Duped character at login bug. <- this was one of the big ones. 2. Multiplayer performance <- which is related to the network bubble and other things. Guess who is working on some of this, Dean mentioned some change he made might have had the opposite effect that they wanted. So it is beyond silly to believe that they are holding up the release because someone decided to render a mask. As I stated pages ago those people are probably LOOKING for projects to work on while waiting for other things to do.
  16. Is this where I point out that according to the latest video the shotgun models are in the game but the functionality isn't yet? That the interiors are all pretty but there are glitches where things are not spawning in correctly? It is NOT the modeling/skinning that is holding those things up. They are ahead of the game. There are objects in the game that are modeled and you can pick them up but they have no functionality yet because THE MODELERS ARE AHEAD OF THE REST. So working on a mask is not holding up the game. I really hate when people who have no clue decide to spout off. The Mossin is in game and functions, the M4 is in game, and functions, and both have multiple attachments that make them the equivalent of 20 DayZ mod guns if not more. There are pistols too, shotguns are modeled and in the works as well as some other gun. Dean stated in the video he thinks they will launch with 4 guns. So this, "One functional gun... aught to work on things people care about..." bull is you just trying to hate SA to hate it and keeping yourself ignorant so you don't accidentally see something worthwhile in it.
  17. Yup, there are numerous locations where you can hang out and view others and the only way they can see you is to approach very close(like the other side of the wall) and scan for you. This is only possible in 3rd person view so if you avoid those servers you won't have those issues. Which is why we want FPV only SA servers.

    Oh the memories..

Well stop dying already! ;) It's probably the people I sometimes see: RandomPlayerX has died. RandomPlayerX has died. RandomPlayerX has died. All within about 8 minutes. I'm assuming he didn't like his spawn point and found a few friendly zombies or he decided to make a straight run for the firehall not bothering to lose zombies on the way and got surrounded.
  19. Hint: The guy who works on the masks is not the guy who works on bugs like people spawning in two avatars or the guy who works on performance fixes. So him adding in a mask is not holding up Stand Alone. I see this same complaint in multiple games. "Oh sure PGI, you could add in a new camo pattern for all the mechs but still don't have X" Yeah, the graphic artists don't work on X. <_<
  20. I was thinking the opposite. Some great moments happen when he is looking around and suddenly freaks out because the zombie he was hearing was just to his left.
  21. Ehem... Oh, and I own a set of handcuffs. Then again I also own and Asp Baton, forearm guards, shin guards, Bokken, Battle Axe, Roman Gladius, several large knives, multiple folders, and other assorted weapons. You know... I don't know where my staff got to. I think it lost it in one of my moves because now that I think about it it wasn't in storage the last time I checked. :(
  22. He said nothing about the Disco Boys from Mystery Men! Come on guys, get on it. We can bring back the "Golden Revolver". :)

    "Hick's List" Post on Reddit

The actual line is, "It is EASIER to ask for forgiveness than for permission." :) Takes on a whole new meaning.
